Umineko is a visual novel that loves to power scale in one of the weirdest ways i've ever seen
heres the woman ive been toying with and throwing at walls etc. dont let her badass gun fool you she speaks like a mad scientist
It's like you can see the author's struggle with pitting “mystery” against “fantasy." Disproving magic is not the same as knowing the truth — just like how a smug atheist denying god has not come to a better understanding of the universe.
What I love about Umineko is how much it interrogates the concept of mystery and detective fiction. It seems to think pursuit of the truth is a worthwhile endeavor, but it also admonishes how certain people approach it. It constantly has to remind the readership that searching for the truth is not an excuse to desecrate the dead and stomp on childhood dreams. The truth isn't a weapon to be wielded to hurt and feel superior to others.
Facts are not the whole truth. Meaning and understanding are also part of truth, and one cannot understand without empathy, without a certain sort of faith and magic. "Without love, the truth cannot be seen."

huge fan of ship dynamics where person a does not know how desired they are and person b is about to pop a blood vessel about it
they call it bloodlust because it’s meant to turn you on

“from where you’re kneeling, it must seem like an 18-carat run of bad luck. truth is… the game was rigged from the start.”
just the fragments we don't talk about
disco elysium does a good job of filtering out the 'alpine witch' cozy crowd by showing us, before anything else, a mostly nude bloated alcoholic man groaning to himself on the floor. and also you have to be him, and also if you do a bad job of grabbing your necktie off the ceiling fan then your heart gives out and you get a game over. like it's such a beautiful and intelligent game, but I wonder if part of the universal praise it gets is from that highly vocal section of the populace getting yucked out at the start. or maybe I'm just stupid and overthinking things
this is why Dream Daddy got cancelled for having a canned halloween plotline, while in Disco Elysium you get to walk around in a jacket with piss f*ggot sprayed on the back and everyone loves it (rightfully, it's a really good jacket)
Euripides (Tr. Anne Carson) / @wholeheartedsuggestions / Jenny Slate / Euripides again

i’m so glad that iwtv is brave enough to show real queer joy in these times— nobody dies of aids, no queerbaiting, just happy, escapist media about gay people in incestuous relationships with their transmasc mothers, gay people beating up and murdering each other, and the queer joy of finally allowing yourself to be a drug addled rock star haunted by your past
im only attracted to worthy opponents
ouhhhmmm. yeah i just wanted to give Eva some arm and Natsuhi a complex
