J/J is the first ship I've ever liked, and still love it. Even if people try and say my interpretation, interpretations actually, are 'unique', I just go with how I see them based on what's on screen rather than how things are 'supposed' to be.

Fic writers & fellow Ao3 users I have a question-

Do you like it/is it correct Ao3 etiquette to comment on a fic you liked even if it’s like, from 2005 and from a fandom long dead? I’ve been tossing and turning about this because I don’t wanna accidentally like, bring back middle school trauma for sonicfan420 on a random Tuesday.

Unpopular opinion: I ship the rockets just as hard as anyone in the fandom and I’m committed to this ship forever (otherwise I wouldn’t have written several thousand words of fic about it) but I can’t picture Jessie and James doing the traditional marriage and children things. They’re not traditional types all around (and have some heavy trauma to work through), so I don’t see white picket fences when I picture their White Tomorrow. Though Jessie fantasizes about and idealizes marriage, I think the things she truly longs for are unconditional love and stability. I DO picture them being happy together in a common-law sort of way (with Meowth) and doting in their pokemon like children.

Tens of thousands of words of rocketshipping written here, all non-heteronormative/non-allonormative. James doesn't want to get married and that's okay. Beautiful, strong love can be found outside strict constructs, something just as valuable and worthy. Or better, since it's shaped and decided just for them. Atypical rocketshipping should still be celebrated just as much, maybe even more! Hope this take isn't as unpopular as OP thinks, because something far outside the norm is certainly where I see J&J landing and being most happy.

Haven't been talking about it much here, but yes, the yamushipping (Jessie x Cassidy) longfic has continued to update weekly. The latest since I last posted:

Chapter 15: Breaking up is hard to do... But you're reading a yamushipping fic that starts pre-series, so you knew this was coming.

Chapter 16: James finally appears tens of thousands of words in and his interactions with a very jealous Cassidy are hella amusing.

Chapter 17: Did you know this story is also Matori heavy? Let's see how things are going with her and her girlfriend... Oh, and the plot.

Chapter 18: More gen and answers the questions of why Cassidy and Butch went away while/before Matori appears in DP.

Chapter 19: The JN095 adjacent chapter.... Currently editing/revising. Will be up some time this week, keep your eye out.

I seriously wish that the anime included Mondo.

For those unfamiliar with him, Mondo only appears in the radio drama: “It’s a White Tomorrow, Team Rocket!”, and in the booklet for the “Sound Picture Box - The Birth of Mewtwo”.

He helps assist Jessie and James with supplies, such as food, materials used for escapes, and so forth. He calls Jessie and James “Senpai” (he really admires and looks up to the both of them), he has a crush on Jessie (I wonder how James feels about that), and worships Meowth.

Personally, I find him rather interesting. Probably because we’ll never see what he could have been, but I’d like to imagine that he would’ve added to the TRio’s adventures in some way.

If you're wishing the anime included him, I wrote a gigantic re-imagining of Pokemon, mostly through the lens of the Indigo League before straying after, that had him being an 'on-screen', forefront character. Was surprised how many commenters hadn't heard of him before, but many TR fans still know and remember...

EOY Writing Meme

Completed this often circulated EOY writing meme on the Real Rocketshipping server, but thought I'd share here too since this blog is related to my writing.

Skipping a bunch of questions, including ones that talk about 'best' and 'favorite' because it's really all of them in different ways. Only talking about ones I actually published, I do have some WIPs. 🤫 Also only Pokeani but that's all I published in 2025 anyway…

Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: Chapter 12 of Burning Out Like a Falling Star (Jessie/Cassidy multi-chapter) may have had some of those moments…

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Mundanity After the End of a World (genfic, bonus follow to my 450k fan-reboot of the OS) for my own OC, actually. Jessie just had some unique perspective on him that almost instantly came across that I hadn't thought of in the years I've been writing him.

Hardest story to write: The 33 chapter one obviously took the most amount of time and such, but emotionally, it was Cotton Candy Blues (Jessie/James one-shot)… The hurt before the comfort was tough to write.

Story most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: All of them. 😏 But maybe Mundanity After the End of a World? I mean, people have to have read my giant fan-reboot to really understand and appreciate it since it's a follow up with major spoilers and expected understanding of the unique world, so….

Biggest Surprise: The finale of Bonds of Freedom (Jessie/James multi-chapter); I had no idea how it would end when starting out. And again, chapter 12 of Burning Out Like a Falling Star has SEVERAL woah moments.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?: The only story I hadn't had at least inklings of floating around my mind since at least 2024 was Cotton Candy Blues, which is J/J, so…

This year's theme and the story that demonstrates it most: THIS WAS THE YEAR OF THE SNAKE JESSIE. Only one fic didn't focus on her majorly. Couldn't really say which one encompassed her character 'best'- okay I'll go with Mundanity After the End of a World, go seasoned Jessie.

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year? Obviously finish editing/posting Burning Out Like a Falling Star… Have other things in mind, but haven't decided what to focus on.
