‘Marriage a la Mode’ by William Hogarth, National Gallery, London, 23/03/16
Wednesday 9th March 2016
While we were wandering around the Natural History Museum, Charlotte took these photos of me meeting my new elephant friend, who I fell rather in love with and didn’t want to leave behind.
Yesterday Charlotte and I went on a trip to the Natural History Museum! We may have spent more time drinking much-needed coffee than actually looking around, but we still got to see lots of animals and some very pretty rocks that Charlotte took great photos of.
This post is very late, but the photos are from when Lauren and I visited the Victoria & Albert Museum the week before I went on holiday. We didn’t get to see much of it as we didn’t have that much time but we made sure to see the work that we love.
More from our trip to the Victoria & Albert Museum
Absolutely loved returning to the V&A - Charlotte is the Queen of sculpture photography, so I stuck to the new displays in the foyer and in the new room dedicated to Raphael.
Friday 12th June 2015
After a pretty late night we ended up having quite a long lay in on Friday, though fortunately we still managed to spend some time in the sunshine. We had delicious Haagen Daaz milkshakes at the adorable Teasy Does It cafe - I had strawberry cheesecake and Charlotte had salted caramel - and then went for a picnic lunch in Heaton Park (where there were many dogs that made me very happy). After doing some packing and tidying we went back to the university, this time to watch Alex, Liz and the other members of the orchestra perform in a concert. Afterwards, we returned home and Charlotte made us delicious banana pancakes for dinner - there may also have been a bit too much chocolate.
Thursday 11th June 2015
We started off the day with a delicious lunch at Quilliam’s tea shop with Charlotte’s friends Emily, Alex and Luke, who I hadn’t seen for ages -I had a delicious courgette and sweet potato frittata! We then went into town to do some shopping, where I fell in love with that adorable cat mug (but was good and didn’t buy it), and bought a card from Paperchase that I’m probably going to end up keeping for myself, a pair of Little Mermaid lounge shorts, and a pair of Alice in Wonderland briefs. We went into Newcastle University itself in the evening to see Emily and some of the other music students perform in a version of the operetta Mlle. Modiste, which was very entertaining. We had a long walk by the quayside, where I spotted the gorgeous St. Nicholas’ Cathedral, and headed home for more pizza and The Office.

I spent the majority of the day having lots and lots of cuddles with Ginge as I knew I was going to be away for a few days visiting Charlotte in Newcastle, but also managed to find time to finish and review Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov over on my book blog. I caught the train to Newcastle in the evening, all prepared with some snacks for the journey, and arrived at Charlotte’s around 9:30pm, when we ordered pizza and watched The Office.
As I am back at uni and sadly Lauren won’t see me for my birthday, she decided to give me my birthday presents before I left. I couldn’t wait til my birthday to open them, so I opened them a little early. She got me two Arthur Conan Doyle books (with very pretty covers), a tin of earl grey tea - as I cannot live without earl grey and I always run out of it at uni (super pretty tin too!), and an awesome Mulan mug (I needed a new mug as one of my others broke, so this was a great surprise)!
Friday 3rd April (continued)
We had lunch at Caffe Nero before going back to the National Gallery to look at the rest of the paintings, including one of my favourites - The Execution of Lady Jane Grey by Paul Delaroche.
Lauren got me an Easter present! So, as you can see, I’m going to have a lot of chocolate in the next few days!
Charlotte got me amazing easter presents too! I’m afraid the malteaster bunny met a very quick end, and I don’t think the rest of the chocolate will be too far behind!
Just like Charlotte’s, my wishlist is also becoming neverending! Our frequent trips to Foyles definitely aren’t helping...
We went in Foyles again, how could we not when it was right down the road? And I now and more books to add to my wishlist, which is starting to become never ending.
Walking from the National Gallery, after getting to see the current exhibition that they have there at the moment, “Inventing Impressionism” (which was brilliant by the way), on our way to Foyles!
Claude Monet - The Water-Lily Pond 1899, oil on canvas.
Our National Gallery visit; we went back again after the exhibition as we popped out for lunch afterwards. We had to see the paintings we love before we walked over to Foyles.
