I’m not really sure how many of my followers actually really keep an eye on this blog - I never initially created it for followers, more for preserving my own memories. But if any of you do, you may have noticed that over the last few months this blog has been pretty quiet. I didn’t feel like I could write about the reason for that for quite a while, but lately I’ve found that writing helps. Quite a lot.
My Nan spent just over a month in hospital before being diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and died with my Mum and I by her side on the 7th December 2016. It was a Wednesday. And it broke my heart. Any of you that do follow this blog may have noticed that I used to talk about my Nan an awful lot; I was always going round to see her for coffee (which usually went alongside gossip, ranting and some very good advice), going on shopping trips and phoning her (not just when I needed something; in fact, more often than not, I just missed her and wanted a chat). My Nan was not just my Nan, she was my best friend. We were always on the same wavelength; even if everyone else in the world told me I was being stupid about something, my Nan would listen, and she would get it; our brains just seemed to work the same way. I am so glad that she got to celebrate my 21st birthday with me and see me graduate in 2016, and for all the many smaller but no less special times we shared. But I am also heartbroken at the thought that she will not be at my wedding (she would have cried), or hold my children the way she held me, or see me graduate from my masters degree. I hate to think of all the things she will miss, and words can’t describe how much I miss her. For the first time in my life I am facing a birthday at the end of this week without my 8am phone call from Nan where she would sing happy birthday, and this is also probably the first time in my life when I have actively dreaded my birthday, because I don’t know how I can cope without her being there. I miss her.People say it gets easier, and I hope they’re right, because right now there is a part of me that still doesn’t really believe it’s real. There is a huge gaping hole and nothing I do is ever going to fill it up, because it’s the space she left behind.
It may get easier, but I will never stop missing her. She will always leave a hole in my life, because she was such a huge part of my life. I love her, I will always love her, and I will never forget.

Today Peter and I finally got around to visiting Kew Gardens after having the tickets booked for nearly a month! It was very cold out and in the last half an hour that we were there it started to rain, so we’ve decided we’re going to go back and explore some more in the summer! We had a lovely day though with lots of fun, some delicious Italian food and attempts to take good photos that ended in hilarity.
Tuesday 1st November 2016
I spent today being lazy with my two favourite boys when I should really have been doing essay research. All the same, it was much, much nicer having cuddles with Ginge, going out for breakfast and spending the rest of the day in bed in Batman pyjamas.
Saturday 29th October 2016
Today was our second day at Comic Con, but after the long day yesterday and all the wine we consumed last night we were much slower to start the day than before. It was also much much busier today, so we didn’t get to look around as much. We still had a lovely day though and were very excited by the addition of some fairground games and rides that weren’t there yesterday; I was also very happy to finally wear my Harley Quinn make up out in public! On the way home we went for a delicious dinner at Ask Italian and are sadly now back in separate beds, but it was a lovely weekend.
Friday 28th October 2016
Today Peter and I went to our first ever MCM London Comic Con together! We didn’t bother with dressing up too much today, though I did get some lovely compliments on my Riddler dress, but we had a really good time. Peter mostly tried out games while I was more interested in shopping, but we had lots of fun and I bought a tiny lego figure of Harley Quinn. Peter also treated me to an adorable cuddly toy of Jigglypuff and she’s so cute! We checked into our hotel later in the day and ordered pizza to eat in bed whilst drinking a bottle of wine each and watching The Flash - it was a very good day :)
Sunday 23rd October 2016
Peter and I were supposed to go to Kew Gardens today, but he has a horrid cold and barely got any sleep last night, so instead we settled for a cosy Sunday on the sofa with jumpers, a blanket, green tea and The Infiltrator, which was a really good (if tense!) film. Also yes, I am aware that we look awful in all of these photos.
Saturday 22nd October 2016
I was feeling a little bit worse for wear this morning, so after taking Ginge for a nice long walk we had a nice long nap to go with it, followed by a lot of coffee for me and some snuggly duvet cuddles. I managed to sufficiently recover in time to do some essay research and go and meet Katie for a coffee and catch up, which was lovely as always, before coming home and finishing my book.
Friday 21st October 2016
Today was the last day before half term at the school where I work, so to celebrate (despite the fact that I still have uni in half term) in the evening Mum and I went over to Marcele’s house for what turned out to be far too much wine and an absolutely hilarious evening involving lots of gossip and some truly terrible singing #P4ONTOUR <3
Thursday 20th October 2016
Today Peter had an interview for a job that he’s really, really hoping to get; the interview went well so although we won’t be hearing back for a while we’re keeping everything crossed in the hope that things work out well! Today also happens to be our two and a half year anniversary, so after the interview we celebrated with a delicious lunch at Azzuro restaurant and a chilly walk along the Southbank.
Saturday 15th October 2016
I started off today doing lots of reading for uni next week, before going to do some food and present shopping with Emma. We had a lovely catch up (complimented by jacket potato and coffee in the M&S cafe), and on the way home I got to go and see her lovely horse, Rocco. Rocco was so excited about the treats I was feeding him, however, that he kept knocking them out of my hand rather than eating them!
Monday 10th October-Friday 14th October 2016
Despite the demands of uni and work, I’ve spent a lot of time with Ginge this week as my poor boy managed to injure himself and had to go to the vets to have his dew claw removed :( He wasn’t very happy about it to say the least, so I’ve been making sure he has lots of extra duvet cuddles, naps and doggy chocolates this week!
Sunday 9th October 2016
Today Peter and I went for a walk around St. Pauls and the Millenium Bridge before heading to the Tate Modern, where we both discovered that our dislike of modern art is most definitely still there, and spent most of the time we were in there laughing. We followed this very amusing trip with dinner at Carluccio’s before heading home.
Saturday 8th October 2016
Winchester Cathedral, including the memorial plaque and the grave of Jane Austen (technically, photos weren’t allowed - hence the bad pictures).
Saturday 8th October 2016
Winchester Great Hall, including the supposed Round Table belonging to King Arthur (although the Tudor rose emblem and green-and-white Tudor colouring suggests this is a forgery made much later), one of the many beautiful stained-glass windows, and a pretty magnificent statue of Queen Victoria.
Saturday 8th October 2016
Today Phoebe and I went on a day trip to Winchester for the BBC History Weekend! Sadly we were only able to see two of the lectures but both were brilliant - Tracy Borman on the private lives of the Tudor monarchs and Suzannah Lipscomb on leadership lessons we could learn from Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. We also had a lovely lunch at Ask Italian and went to Winchester Cathedral, where we saw the graves of Jane Austen (ahhhh!) and Bishop Stephen Gardiner, and Phoebe became very overexcited that her idol Mary I had been married there.
Tuesday 27th September 2016
This week I started my MA History course, which combined with work is going to take up a LOT of time. But I had a bit of a break today and it was lovely; Peter and I spent the day together at home before heading to Wimbledon to watch the currently touring stage musical of Dirty Dancing! We started off with a delicious (and very large) dinner at the Italian restaurant Al Forno before heading to the theatre for the show - it was great fun and made us both fall in love with the film all over again!
