one of my strongest anime opinions is that light should have had to kill L with his own two hands. make him confront the reality of what he’s been doing all along. make L’s death more narratively satisfying and less convoluted. i’ve heard there was debate between the author and publisher on if light should get to “win” and i think not being able to kill L with the death note (the thing that makes him a god) and having to get his hands dirty in this very human and intimate way would have been a really interesting compromise

i finally finished poppy war and it unfortunately wasn’t as good as I was hoping.

i heard a shit ton of praise for it which gave me reaaaallly high expectations. i think it is easily a 4 star book but not as life changing as ive seen a lot of people (specifically tik tok) claim.

i think rin is a well written protagonist but she made a lot of decisions that made me frustrated (ie letting the phoenix in) but i do understand why she made those decisions (and why the plot needed those decisions).

while i am interested to see where the story goes, i am not going to immediately pick up the next book unfortunately :/ if anyone who has read the full trilogy thinks it got better or worse with the next books, please let me know!

while benny also calls cas THE angel in this scene, i think it's because cas calls him THE vampire

it's a two-way thing where they both refuse to call the other by name, only be species. benny is undoubtedly VERY aware that the angel is really dean's angel - case in point with this scene where benny calls cas dean's "buddy," putting a special emphasis on the way he says "buddy"

pretty sure the reason for that goes back to this scene in 8x02 and benny realising that they might be a bit more than buddies but are probably in denial
