Batman and Robin 2011 #8
This one will always fuck me up. He's trying so hard to change, and he's so scared he's going to fail. He's so scared he's going to become something terrible
Imagine asking your parents to not give up on you...
Now thinking of a scenario where Jay Nakamura teams up with the bats for whatever reason and Bruce is trying to awkwardly find out about his powerset to study it:
Bruce: "So when you phase, do you--?"
Jay, only here because Damian kindly asked him: "Do you remember that one time you were a grade A Asshole to me and didn't let me reside in a safe house despite there being a literal bounty on my head?"
Bruce: >:(
I like the idea that when Talia looks at Damian, she sees Bruce, and when Bruce looks at Damian, he sees Talia. The idea that Damian mostly resembles Talia, yet possesses Bruce's charm and facial features, has always been in my mind. However, sometimes this thought catches my attention: I want Bruce to one day look at Damian and suddenly see a few of Martha's features in him.
I particularly want Damian's fans to understand that Damian has other friends, and to remember that Jon is a character in his own right, with his own comic books and life, and therefore is not a supporting character in Damian's comics. Jon is not a supporting character, and Jon is not Damian's only friend.
i'll be real, i still haven't heard a compelling explanation for why the age up prevents damian and jon from being close friends who grow into heroism together. quite obviously, they're both still having problems with their legacies post age up, no? if anything, they need each other more than ever. that arc is unfinished, its just up to an author to capitalize on it. the flipped age gap hasn't actually prevented anything
If fans continue to see the Supersonics as friends rather than in a romantic relationship, they still have potential. Jon's volcanic accident still saddens me because Jon deserved his childhood. However, life isn't always sweet, and ignoring what happened is boring. Adult Jon has great potential. After returning from the volcano, his distorted sense of time, adjusting to the world after ageing six years, and his mental breakdown coinciding with the grief he experienced due to Damian's Ric incident and Alfred's deaths made it difficult for Jon and Damian to get along at first. They seem to be trying to be friends again, but even though they know they can't be like they used to be, they'll try to be a bit like that. Then when they meet, they'll chat, and it'll go on like that for a while. One day, it feels like they might accidentally rebuild their friendship from scratch and become closer. I don't care how canonically accurate that is. They were very cute as children, but the idea of them having a different kind of wild fun and maturity as adults appeals to me.
Agreed. Speaking canonically, we already know that they have that kind of friendship. They never stopped being friends, you could even argue based off Action Comics and SOKE alone they didnt even miss a beat (i even think their friendship is stronger now that Damian isn't viewing Jon as someone he has to be responsible for).
But also, I think Jon especially right now needs a friend who understands the circumstances for why Hes Like That. After jons horrific fuck ups in secret six, he needs a friend whos perfectly posed to both emphasize with him AND not take his shit.

tim and babian…❤️
Everyone in the manor has a section in their room dedicated to the art Damian has gifted them. Which is a lot. It’s Damian’s love language, his way of saying he loves them without having to say it. He’s the type of kid who has to make sure they all have the same amounts of artworks no matter what, because he’s worried someone might think he doesn’t love them as much as the others. (When Duke first arrived he spent HOURS making him things) And everyone in his family proudly show off his artworks, hanging them on walls, in frames and kept in beautiful books. Except Tim. (Tim has a secret shrine in his closet, with candles and all.)
let’s focus on these panels instead, nothing else is canon to me!
Do you think damian asked his dad for a giant sun lamp for his room and Bruce had to think back to whatever new animal his son brought home this week for it to need an industrial sun lamp?
It turns out Damian just wanted one because he knows Gotham doesn't get enough sunlight and he doesn't want his friend to get sick from his constant visits to his room
(he resists Jason and Tim's suggestions of getting Jon a large rock to sun bake on too. Barely)
THAT’S SO CUTE STOP!!!
Damian has to be the first kid in history who’s parents would be disappointed in him for wanting to become a doctor
