It’s been about a year, but I’m back on my outsiders kick! Wait another 10 months, and I might make some follow-up drawings. :))

Joking aside, I got carried away, and now we’ve got this! Post-rumble walk home. Darry got to show off his abs, Pony sprained an ankle, Soda lost his pretty privileges, Steve’s curls stayed perfectly intact, Two-Bit got brain damage, Dally broke his nose blocking a punch with his face, and Johnny kicked major ass! Eat up, my fellow outsider fans!

Hey so I feel like a total idiot, but how do I send fan mail to the Outsiders musical cast...?

I know that there have been issues with overbearing fans and harassment so idek if they're accepting mail, but I have so many drawings and letters and blah blah that I want to send. So if somebody could point me in the right direction that'd be wonderful 😭😭

Do we think Darry Curtis is a light sleeper or heavy sleeper? Bc i can see both???

I feel like he'd be a heavy sleeper for most of his life, but after all the events that take place, I'm thinking he's a rather light sleeper bc he's anxious he'll miss something (like Ponyboy's nightmares or smth)

when mason mccormick and bob collins were like seven their class went on a little field trip nature walk up jay mountain. they had lunch out by the abandoned church there, and everybody kept saying the place was haunted, and mason was so adamant it wasn’t because his grandpa used to own the place so he would know. so to prove this he and bob and a bunch of other kids go in to explore. then they smell something burning and there’s smoke everywhere and something crashes and the place erupts into flame and—

bob is grabbing him by the arm in a panic because somebody’s calling for johnny and he’s so scared he can’t remember if his little brother’s there or not (he isn’t). some teenager in a leather jacket tries to pick him up and somehow his instincts tell him to bite them. and then he’s being carried out the window. years later people ask bob why he wants to be a priest and he jokes that the church fire was a sign maybe he oughta win over the big man upstairs.

and mason, well. some other teenager with greasy hair and a scar on his cheek helps him up when he trips and leads him towards the window, where some guy who mason thinks might be tex from the future, if tex had different eyes and a meaner expression, lifts him out and tells him to scram. all mason really remembers is thinking that if he didn’t know any better, that guy could’ve been tex’s dad. except pop is their dad. and the newspaper said that guy was a teenager.

later on, after he does all the math, and after they pick up that hitchhiker, and a million other things, mason wonders if he wasn’t that far off. if for all he knows, he’s not tex’s only brother.

just the only living one. the only one who cares, and maybe that made a difference.

as they get older mason kinda blocks out a lot of his memories of that day, and all he really knows is he was trapped in a burning building (no wonder he has anxiety!) and one of the guys who saved him looked kind of like tex does now. or maybe tex looks like that guy.

he knows that guy was wearing cowboy boots.

he knows that when his little brother gets older and tex’s voice gets deeper he can’t figure out why but the way tex talks sometimes is eerily familiar.

Post-canon Two-Bit who drinks and drinks and drinks until he can't even stand. Who drinks so much he has to go to the hospital for alcohol poisoning. Two-Bit, who watches what remains of the gang sob over someone who isn't dead yet. He has to watch as his friends mourn him before he's even gone.

Two-Bit, who doesn't want to end up like his dead beat dad (or Steve's dad or Johnny's mom) and slowly but surely stops drinking. He does his best to get better, not really for himself, but for Ponyboy and his kid sister. For Johnny and Dally, for Steve, Soda, and Darry. For Mr and Mrs Curtis and for his own Ma.

Post canon Two-Bit who has to break before he can mend. But he will eventually mend.

thinking about how if darry hadn’t turned on soda, ponyboy might justve went to his room and cried. bc the thing is he thinks darry is being irrational but he knows how stupid he sounded he sounded saying he forgot (“It sounded dumb, even to me, when I stammered […]”)

up until this point, it’s a one sided argument all most. like in the musical i could argue (not very well) that pony eggs darry on the entire argument but in the book i think i’d say he’s more docile (?) meek (?? neither the right word but alas).

for example

“I ran home, trembling at the thought of facing Darry.”

“He was on his feet in a second. I stood there, chewing on my fingernail.”

““Where the heck have you been? Do you know what time it is?" He was madder than I'd seen him in a long time. I shook my head wordlessly.”

“It sounded dumb, even to me, when I stammered, "I... I went to sleep in the lot...”

“I didn't mean to." I pleaded with Darry.”

and then the most important part to this whole point i’m trying to make

“I felt hot tears of anger and frustration rising. "I said I didn't mean to...”

darry’s been hollering at him the entire time and it took this long for pony to finally get frustrated and angry too and even still. even still pony doesn’t yell back. even still pony bites his tongue and lets his words fizzle out. bc it would’ve been real easy to shout it but he doesn’t.

he’s likely mostly frustrated with himself. because yeah ok darrel maybe he hasn’t been using his head as much lately, but he doesn’t know why. all he knows is that he’s been forgetting things more and more and he does things like fall asleep in the lot with nothing but a sleeveless sweatshirt and here’s darry yelling like pony did it on purpose. but he didn’t do it on purpose he didn’t mean to.

and pony gets it, he has been saying that a lot lately. he gets why darry is starting to get upset at the repetitiveness of it; pony’s probably tired of saying it himself.

despite all this pony wasn’t going to engage in the argument until soda spoke up. until soda spoke up and darry shot him down. bc for all intent and purposes, in pony’s mind that is, soda is one connection to this family. soda is the only hint that the family he knows and love didn’t completely leave him eight months ago. bc he hardly recognizes darry and he’s half convinced himself that if not for soda darry would throw him in a home.

so no “no one should ever holler at my brother” bc in his mind, in his puberty stricken mind that’s still grieving his father and older brother, sodas the only real family he’s got left.
