Hi I was wondering how do you preserve your wings
Hello!
There’s a few different ways of preserving wings and it usually depends on how much meat is on them;
If they’re small wings with barely any meat on them then I will pin them onto a piece of card into a position of my choice and allow them to air dry which usually takes 2-4 weeks.
if the wings are large, but not too meaty then I will do the same process, but I will cover them in a substrate such as salt or borax which helps with the drying process. This usually takes a month and the salt will need changing a few times during this time.
if the wings are meaty then I will remove most of the meat from the humerus, ulna and radius then I will pin them and put salt/borax on them aswell. This will also take around a 4-6 weeks.

A sign from the Gays
When someone called 'cocksmasher' tells you and your friends to kill themselves and that you're a 'c*nt' because you're a taxidermist who collects animal remains?
Merr Chrismis!

Less then 40 encounters! Gardevoir did well with synchronize.
Hey, its deer anon again. With such little tissue on the bone, will the maceration stink as much? The bones aren't greasy(as far as I can tell) and I'm wondering if the vertebrae will fall apart? Thanks!
heya! it definitely wont smell as bad as a meaty carcass, but it will have an odour due to decomposition of the remaining tissue. The vertebrae will eventually come apart, but this can be assembled fairly easily with wire afterwards.I hope this helps! :)
How do you macerate something?
Hello!Maceration is done by leaving a carcass/part in water to rot by building up bacteria. It's also good for smaller, fragile skulls as it's harder for insects to get in and destroy it. It's best using warmer water in a bucket or container that allows air inside, although cold water is fine it just takes longer.
These are what I’m going to be working on tonight.
As far as im aware they are all roadkill, but I am waiting for a response to find out for sure.
Just for others information, red squirrels are protected here in the UK! It’s perfectly fine to taxidermy them but you can only do so under a general license provided the specimen comes from a natural death (RTA, ect) if you however suspect foul play (bullet holes, ect) contact a wildlife officer! Hopefully useful information to some people on here!
Yes that's correct!
