Weariness had drained him. The sun beat down on the earth, soaking every living person in sweat. Rin wanted to push forward, but physically he could not. He plopped down onto the ground, fanning himself in process. Birds drew his attention to the empty sky. Not a cloud there, so he stared at the sun with squinted eyes, causing sunspots to blur his vision. Rin regretted his decision in accepting this mission to the Sunagakure in the middle of summer. It was suicide, but Rin accepted it anyway. It paid considerably, and Rin was short on money this month.

Rin rested for a while, trying to gather the energy to continue when his stomach grumbled. Deciding it would be best to find somewhere to eat, he picked himself off the ground and headed in the direction he needed to go. He walked for another hour, making good time. In the distance, Rin could make out a little shack with some benches. Curious, he hiked up his speed and arrived at the building, only to throw himself into a bush. Two men sat on one of the benches out front, dressed in black coats with red puffy clouds. Akatsuki. Rin observed the two from afar. One had tied up blond hair and the other black. The black haired one turned away from his partner and displayed an orange mask, which he, then, lifted to eat one of his dango.

“Ob… it… o?” Rin couldn’t believe who he was looking at. Obito was dead. There’s no way this person could be him, but he looked exactly like Obito. Rin wanted to know. He wanted to lay his curiosity to rest. Once the blond had left the area, Rin marched up to the man in orange mask. “Obito?” He may have had his mask on, but even with the one eye visible, he had the look like he had just seen a ghost. “Please tell me it’s you.”

After the man had responded with lifting his mask, Rin couldn’t help but take Obito into his arms. He stepped back and took hold of Obito’s cheeks into his hands. His eyes closed, and he leaned in and planted a kiss on his lips. He held the kiss for at least a solid minute. He released Obito from his hold, moving backward to give him a little bit of room. “I can’t believe you’re alive. Why didn’t you come home?” He questioned, still astonished that his once assumed dead friend was actually alive and well.
