Archie and Bella are twins from an ancient but slightly impoverished aristocratic family of swamp monsters. Their ancestors were the great "Scares" of the Victorian era, but the twins brought something completely new and strange to the MU campus. Between them they have six eyes, two horns and one big mystery for the future
Bella Thornwood — "The Director of Nightmares"

Bella believes that the classic "scaring" with jumping out of the closet is vulgar and boring. She's studying the theory of dramatic fright. In her opinion, a monster shouldn't just growl; it should create a performance
She is the main star of the campus theater club. Bella can spend hours talking about how properly exposed light and shadow from a curtain can scare a child more than Sullivan's loudest scream. She is ambitious, eccentric, and always looks at the world (with all three eyes) as one big stage
Archie Thornwood — "The Master of Quiet Walks"
• Faculty: He is formally enrolled in Engineering, but attends lectures on philosophy, acoustics, and even cooking
Archie is the exact opposite of his sister. If Bella is the big premiere, then Archie is the credits at the end of the movie. He lost his leg in his freshman year (he always describes the circumstances in different ways: from "a battle with a wild wardrobe" to "an unfortunate fall from the bed"). After this incident, Archie lost interest in his career as a "Scarecrow" and in general in any clear goals
He is the most famous "eternal student" of the campus. Archie doesn't know who he wants to become, and it doesn't scare him at all. He can sit on a bench all day, watching the flying of monster flies, or design silent prosthetics that no one needs. His cane is his third support and a tool for measuring the vibrations of the world
In a world where every monster is obsessed with career, points, and fear, the Thornwoods look like aliens. They remind everyone else that university is not only a preparation for working in a Corporation, but also a time to find (or lose) yourself. Bella has already found her goal and is ready to storm Olympus, and Archie... Archie just walks along, tapping his cane on the pavement, and enjoys the moment, not knowing where the next door will lead him
