Dubious Stars
One instant he was watching her petite form storm away after an amusing display of wounded ego and growing frustration. And the next he was instantly closing the distance between them in a show of physical strength and bravado. The mastermind was not about to be dismissed by who was no more than a self centered, arrogant brat. Nen or not he was still in prime physical condition, powerful enough to injure two master assassins simultaneously, never-mind a child.
Chrollo glared at her drily. She was proving to be more difficult than he had initially estimated. The blonde had not come to greet nor intimidate him because he was an intruder in her city. The land was not hers to claim, she was merely someone’s pawn, a guard dog. She was too arrogant and self centered to give a damn about his well being, there was no way she had crawled out of her little hole just to warn him about the dangers lurking by. “Your dick is as hypothetical as the power you think you hold over me.” He spoke with a taunting, yet matter-of-factly tone. “You are stronger than me at the moment. We both know that. It is also evident that you won’t kill me otherwise you would have attempted to do so by now.”
His patience was wearing thin. It was probable that she viewed him as a threat even if she did not realize or want to admit it herself. Perhaps he was not just a threat to her but to whoever was commanding her as well. There was a possibility that the being able to unlock powers would not find him agreeable and attempt to kill him. But that was something he was prepared to deal with once the time arrived, if it came to that. What Chrollo needed was for the insolent girl to realize that denying his request would only deter the inevitable. The entity that controlled this city was interested in him. He knew it. Otherwise why had he been allowed to go as he pleased for a whole week before sending her out? Why not have her kill him right there and then if he had overstayed his welcome? “Do as I ask.” He boldly grabbed the hand that was holding one of her weapons and put the barrel to his forehead. “Otherwise try to end me where I stand. You will find killing me difficult even if you currently hold the upper hand. Though I wonder little girl… will your leader appreciate us breaking havoc in his city?”
Growling in irritation, she looked over her shoulder, noticing him to be hot on her trail. He really was determined to get something out of her, whether she liked it or not. Perhaps this was normal for him, for his offers to be rejected, and he’d perfected his methods to get what he wanted no matter what. What a bother, and she wondered if there’d be any point in actually running away, with the help of reinforcement magic. She was merely using a casual stride right now, as she was quite fast to begin with, but there seemed to be no point in trying to shake him off. He’ll find her again eventually, or force her to come find him through a commotion, and they’ll be right back at square one. He kept up with her well though, she had to admit. He couldn’t have been using any magic of his own, yet he was fast enough to be within her sights at all times. As she figured, he was powerful, though she never doubted that to begin with.
Merely scoffing at his words, she paid him no mind as she stopped on top of a building, more concerned with what to do with him now that he proved to be such a stubborn pest. He was right; she couldn’t kill him, as she would’ve done so by now, but Souren would be greatly displeased by the loss of such a precious life. Precious to him, obviously, but she had to respect his wishes. At the very least, she could shove this guy off to her to boss and let him deal with everything instead, as it took all of her willpower to turn down Chrollo’s very, very tempting offer when he grabbed her hand.
Her eye twitched in annoyance, the scowl on her face deepening by his bold move. But she came to respect it, knowing he was betting his life on this, desperate and without any other choice. The fact that she was his only hope around here gave her a little sense of smugness, knowing he was grasping at straws to evoke his meager authority over her, but it didn’t matter anymore. “It’s funny, seeing such a high and mighty guy almost groveling to some little girl,” She mocked, seeing straight through what little remained of his composure. “Maybe I should make you beg for my help, but I hate your voice too much to even humour that.” She whipped her hand out of his grasp, dusting herself off with disdain.
“Let me correct you; this isn’t his city, it’s our city, and I can break havoc as much as I damn please. If you doubt me on that, you can ask him yourself,” She sneered, though it was clear what she was about to do. She’d give him what he wanted, as she was sure Souren would have to meet with him to turn him into a puppet anyways. Plus, she wanted some payback for when he grabbed her hand, not really fancying anyone laying a hand on her.
“Prepare yourself,” She smiled brightly as she backed up, raising her hands as wind started to pick up around her. Hopefully her boss wouldn’t mind the random drop in, but she was sure he was watching them this entire time anyways. Glowing circuits etched themselves onto her legs, power building up in her muscles. “I’ll give you a free ride straight to his house.” Grinning rather devilishly, the cement below her cracked under the pressure as she spun around, aiming a heavy kick straight to his chest. Waving lazily, she watched him fly off towards the building in the middle of the city, a satisfied smile plastered on her face.
“Welp, back to work.” Cracking her knuckles, she walked off, figuring she’d never see that man ever again.

He stared down at her. She ran around the room, estatic. She was overjoyed at this luxury. Based on her clothes, she was not unfamiliar with the concept. Perhaps she was happy to be reminded of home. He did not truly have home. Japan was the closest he had to one, but that was a long time ago…
He remembered her earlier question as she bounced on the bed and landed on the ground. A flow of air racing in her hair. He kept a still face as she approached him. Slightly tilting his head to match her eyes to his shadow covering his own
“Those who can not handle their origin’s need, or who neglect, and overuse their origin, can find the strain on their mind to be…strong. That will not be the case for you. To answer your present question. I will give you time to…adjust to the city, and this world. You will learn to manage your origin in time.”
He slowly paced past her and opened the curtains. A harsh night awaited them. Thunder booming as the purple hue of the city illuminated the tall towers in the distance. He turned to her again and a held in breath escaped him. She was what he had been looking for, a willing, promising, apprentice. He was not impressed with his ability to manipulate her to his side, she was only a child afterall. He wondered when he would not have to do that, when she would be able to trust him enough…
“I will train you. You will become a most powerful mage indeed… But first, there is something I must show you.”
He coldly proclaimed as he extended his hand and motioned her to follow him. He led her from the room down the hallway. Their footsteps echo’d throughout the building it seemed. A feeling of ominousness fell over the two as they approached an elevator at the end of the long hallway. He looked down at her and slowly but almost with a sense of force, placed his hand on her shoulder. Almost as surely as he placed it, he lifted his hand and guided her to the elevator. He remained quiet for the entire ride as the sounds of the spinning lift filled their ears. He sighed and the doors opened.
Jars. Hundred of them lined the room. Wall to wall the Jars covered the entire space. There was a slight clearing that lead to a surrogate throne of sorts. He stepped ahead of her and picked up a jar. The lack of light in the room covered his body, once again making him appear as a shadow of sorts. The glowing light of the elevator was the only thing lighting the room. It overshadowed them as he held her gaze. He lowered the brain, making sure she could still see it. Her curiosity was most likely spiked. She wanted to know what was inside them. He flicked a switch on the side of the jar and a UV light illuminated the inside. What was inside?..A brain
“These Jars..They represent the puppets of this city. Each brain is one puppet that bends to my..our will. When someone I deem worthy is killed, they become a puppet. You my find this…shocking and horrific. But look at the big picture. Soaria de Corvi, I, Magus Araya Souren now name you as my student in this foreign world. With this, together we shall work together to claim this planet for our own. To reach my goal of reaching the Paradox Spiral. I understand you don’t understand some of the things I speak of now. But in time…you will. In return for your services to me, I shall gift you with powers beyond your dreams…and luxury fit for a ruler of this massive city.”
He waved his hand and both of them warped through the floor. It felt like odd, even to him. It felt like diving into a deep sea with no end. The two reappeared on the roof of the skyscraper. The rain had halted at his command. Leaving a gray view of the city. He said nothing. Letting her take everything in. She had witnessed much today. Her true nature, her origin had been unlocked. Absorption. It reflected her personality slightly. She took everything in around her, Souren, his knowledge and her new home. He pondered if that’s what made her chaotic impulse. He simply waited for her to ask, and accept his offer. He knew she would.
Her earlier enthusiasm faded with his words, confusion first filling her eyes before a pout resigned her to a slouched posture. “Seeeriously? That’s like, getting me a gift and telling me not to open it until Christmas…” She muttered, kicking at the floor, but not rebelling in any other way. She wouldn’t be so lucky if it weren’t for him, so the least she could do was obey his words. Still, it irked her that he thought of her as average, as just another mage who probably wouldn’t be able to handle her new powers. Surely, in due time, he’d acknowledge her uniqueness and aptitude for greatness.
She stood as he made his way around the room, watching him with an eyebrow raised. A quiet man… Her father always told her to watch herself around quiet men. They were always thinking, always planning, you never knew what to expect from them. To be fair, none of this was what she would’ve expected from him, but she supposed he was almost as desperate as she was. For him to find someone who could reliably execute his needs in this strange world was probably tough, so they both benefited, even if it wasn’t so obvious on his end. Yes, she was quite the perceptive girl, but not perceptive enough to know what he had in store for her.
She perked up as he spoke again, smirking somewhat. “Lookin’ forward to it.” She remarked, before silently following him. Surely, there was a whole city to show, and she was rather excited to see her new domain. As much power as she had at home, it wasn’t enough, not with her father’s plans for her brother. Just knowing that power was being withheld from her annoyed her greatly, not liking the fact that there was something in her life that she had absolutely no control of. But here… Seemingly, her new teacher would reward her fairly, as she deserved.
Whisking the thoughts of her past away, she looked up at Souren when he lay his hand on her shoulder, straightening up from his glower. Something of importance? She couldn’t really tell, but she matched his aura, coldness overcoming her as her footsteps barely made any sound. She was rarely this serious, but she couldn’t help but copy his style, as though it was natural for her to take after him. As the elevator took them up to the desired floor, she squinted, adjusting to the darkness until she saw rows and rows of jars.
What the hell is this? A stray thought passed her mind as Souren stepped forward, eyes scanning her environment with curiosity and lingering briefly on the throne in the middle. It was heavily fortified, as though it contained something important… And perhaps it did, amongst these jars. Looking back at him for an explanation, she watched him lower a jar to her height, stepping forward with almost childlike innocence as she pondered over what exactly was so important.
“A brain?”
Her eyes widened from the sudden light, though not flinching from the discovery. No, her curiosity was merely piqued by the reveal, not understanding the use of a brain without a body to control it with. She supposed there was no point wondering, as Souren started to explain it all. Before she could say anything though, they warped outside once more, thunder rolling in the distance as wind whipped past them. She had to be honest with herself, as she was quite overwhelmed by all that Souren showed her, but equally so… She was excited. Excited to be a part of something so big, to flex her new found powers upon this strange world, and not be bound by any irrational laws. Slowly, she stepped forward towards the edge of the building, looking over the ominous city. A city under her rule, under her control, for a greater goal of her new teacher. To deny this would be a great disservice, to everyone involved.
She turned around, her smirk returning as her coat flared out behind her. “Do I look shocked and horrified? This is fucking awesome,” She remarked, holding her arms out in a grand gesture. “I don’t get what you’re doing, and I don’t really care-- you already know what I want and don’t want, what I care about and don’t care about, but,” She closed her eyes, shaking her head. “I can’t believe you yet, sorry. You’ve given me everything I wanted so far without question, that’s way too suspicious, and I’ve ran across my fair share of assholes who’ve manipulated me into doing things I’ve never wanted to do. Treating me like a child… Is the stupidest thing you could do.” Her arms dropped to her side, her head lowered. “Either way…” Slowly, she knelt down, a knee propped up with a fist pressed against the ground. It was a sign of great respect, shown only to those she saw as superior, as worthy of serving. “You have my loyalty. Araya Souren, I, Soaria de Corvi, accept you as my teacher, and my Boss. Let these guns of mine be yours, this life of mine be yours, to use and represent you as you wish,” She’d never bent the knee for anyone but her father before, her loyalty having never wavered from her family. But with the recent betrayal, and all these new events… She supposed there was a first for everything, after all.

‘I’m telling you to mind your business, because if you don’t, you’ll be devoured by the city itself.’ He went over her words in his head trying to make sense of them. He’d been wrong to think that the city was her weakness when it was quite the opposite. The city itself was it’s strength. ‘Devoured by the city itself.’ It was that particular phrase that puzzled him the most. Chrollo knew that the blonde meant those words figuratively and literally. The master thief contemplated the possibilities and had a few theories of his own. He did not know the mechanics of this universe, who else had been brought here, and the abilities they might possess; so he could only speculate. But to have him of all people correct himself twice, and each time with a more outrageous possibility… whoever these people were, they fascinated him.
“I meant it as neither a threat nor a warning.” The words rolled off his tongue as his face remained calm, calculating, and assertive as ever. Her bloodthirsty eyes were met with her condescending ones as Chrollo slowly closed the distance between them until he was within arms length. Provoke her and she will attack. Such was the rule with short tempered people. “I know as well as you do that I cannot defeat you in my current state but it would be foolish of you to think that you will walk away unharmed if we do fight.” He was confident in his combat abilities whether he could use nen or not. He did face off against two Zoldyck’s at once with bare use of his abilities, not that she’d be able to understand the significance of such a feat. “I have no interest in fighting you now or once I regain my abilities. I want to become part of your alliance, for lack of a better word, and for that purpose I want to meet whoever you are working for.”
Whoever had sent her here must be a formidable entity. Making people like her obey requires an absurd amount of power. How very fascinating… a nearly tamed beast. “I get no pleasure from fights. My abilities exist to facilitate the completion of my goals, that’s all.” Once he regained his powers what would his objective be? If someone that can unlock lost powers exists in this world they certainly wouldn’t allow him to roam free and do as he pleases. Such a being must be quite a fearsome person, one that borders on the grounds of divine and cursed. This was the most amusing game he had ever played. All of his senses were alert and eager for what was to come. Being the strategist and criminal mastermind that he is, Chrollo had already thought of all possible scenarios no matter how absurd or unrealistic they seemed, depending on the entities next move he’d be ready with a counter of his own. “Now little girl I’d appreciate it if you could hurry up and take me to him already. I have a book I need to get back to.”
She scoffed, rolling her eyes. “What, are you backpedaling now?” She mumbled, finding more interest in their surroundings as she turned her attention away from him. He seemed to be too far up on his high horse to get a sense of his pathetic situation, but who was she to knock him down a peg? Let him do as he wished, she supposed, it wasn’t as though it would affect her either way. Plus, observing such foolish behaviour in the city would be entertaining, if nothing else. He seemed to have understood her earlier words though, if his silence meant anything. Would he leave her alone, now that he knew that there was an unknown force backing her every move? Doubtful, he only seemed to be piqued by the vague information, much to her disappointment. She almost regretted being so smug. Almost.
Staring back up at him, she raised an eyebrow. “You think I care for getting harmed? Honestly, you’re such a bad read of character.” She sneered, casually spinning her gun by her side. Even if he was capable of harming her in any way, she’d recover quite quickly with her powers. That aside, it didn’t matter what it took to get the job done, as long as it was done, and she knew she’d make quick work of him. Ignorantly testing his limits… She almost felt bad for how naive he was, thinking he could demand whatever he wanted and treat her as an equal. They weren’t equals; not now, not ever, as he would always be below or above her.
“My alliance? Hmmm…” She hummed, turning away as she started to walk. “Nah, nah, that’s not happening, especially with someone like you.” She knew his type, and he varied little from her teacher; he had a massive desire to use his powers on the world for his own ambitious goals, a conflict to whom she was indebt to. If she brought him to Souren, he probably wouldn’t appreciate competition from another outsider, unless he was turned into a puppet too. The thought of having Chrollo mindlessly following her orders as a puppet made her smile some, before she heard him speak again. Shoving her hands in her pockets, she looked over her shoulder, an irritated scowl formed from his demeaning tone. “Yeah, suck my dick.” She spat, not taking his words too kindly as she sped off towards the city. She was done dealing with him, he who couldn’t learn his place. Who did he think he was, anyways? Some kind of head honcho? Ridiculous.
T̬͠o̘̭̺̫͖̝͎r̴̮̠va̰̹̲̯͙̕ ̷̞M̲̱̰̹̝̕e͇̟̲̪̭͞sso̱̣̰r̜͖̻̲ͅ
He shifted as a bullet whizzed past his hair dragging wind with it. His hair fluttered as he turned and shot Soaria a stern gaze. He then nodded, knowing that she was doing her job well. He lowered his arm as the barrier creation became auto’d from his fingertips. He then pushed past a smoldering corpse as he watched his student. Interesting, She was quite capable of combat indeed.
“Impressive, You have some skill in you..I am please, Although-”
Whipping his barrier-cables forward,he grabbed a beast that was attempting to land and smash his student. He then continued, a small taunting tone crossed his lips.
“There is always room for improvement”.
He then tore the beast in pieces, it was easy to him. The beast was like paper, his barrier like a knife. He turned away from her and focused on the source of the creatures. A large portal in the sky was increasing in size as more monstrosities rained down like hellish rain. He raised his fist and shouted.
“SHUKU!”
He then took control of the very space around the demons and crushed them until they faded into scraps of skin. He smashed dozens of the monsters before lowering his arm. He began to prepare another spell when he sense something..strange. A mana source, in slumber was nearby. It was strong, ten times that of Soaria. What could it be? A human? No, this mana source, was that of a ancient demi-god. But it was in slumber, chained by the constraints of this world. Not unlike that of Soaria when she first arrived. Another off-world being then? He had little time to ponder when a shockwave shook the rooftop. Souren slowly, calmly, walked over to his student and stood to face the source..He widened his eyes as a large, horned creature climbed up the side of the building. It wielded a large club that was infused with flame. Its face was that of Rakshasa from his old Buddhist teachings. He studied its features before bring his arm to shoulder height. He was growing tired.
“Kill it, In one shot. No more than that..”
He stepped aside to let his Student finish the creature off. He warped the space around it and kept it slowed down for her. He knew she would be able to complete the task, so he moved away. The barrier was nearly complete. It was far weaker than the barriers had had constructed in the Forbidden City, but all he had to do was keep out corpses and demons, it did not require much effort. As he turned to look for Sapphire he heard a ear-piercing roar. He quickly looked to the sky as the Portal burst into flame. All demons that fell were now, already dead. He shifted his body and alarm fell over his features. He could sense the inner workings of the new creature. It would tear the barrier into pieces. He widened his barrier to its complete three-layers and regained his posture. As the claw’s of the monster grabbed at the edge of the portal, He only wondered if he could protect Soaria. Not from the monstrosity emerging from the flame-ridden portal..But from the dormant mana beings that edged closer and closer…
@vvhitecrovv
The stern gaze Souren shot her straightened her up some, wondering if she would be berated for being so reckless. She wasn’t one to care about how a job was done as long as it was done, and she had enough faith in her abilities to be slightly dangerous with her ways. Still, she protected him, right? But once he spoke, she gave a silent sigh of relief, rather proud that she impressed her teacher. Either he wasn’t used to such a way of combat, or it really was impressive to him, as she did stunts like that all the time. Regardless, she didn’t mind the compliments.
Blonde locks fluttered in the wind as Souren’s cables flew past her, eliminating the monster behind her with ease. A pout made its way across her lips, his taunting tone only motivating her to be better. “I thought I was supposed to be protecting you, but you just wanna show off, don’t you? Trying to impress the ladies?” She smirked, clearly joking with that comment before returning her focus to the monsters around her. It was a pain to see them pour upon this land rather endlessly from the portal in the sky, Soaria wondering if there was a way to just destroy it instead of the monsters. She enjoyed a slaughter as much as the next person, but this was just grindy if anything.
She stood squinting as a large mass crawled across the building, noticing Souren by her side. “Wow, ugly.” Was all that she muttered, looking over at her teacher as he raised his hand. “What’s the rush? Hmph, whatever.” Shrugging, she crouched down to stabilize herself, raising both her guns as mana surged around her. Right, this would be a perfect opportunity to test her stronger skills, especially with this influx of power and Souren’s time stopping abilities.
Letting her heels dig into the ground, an orb of energy formed at the end of her gun, a holographic scope coming up to find a target. “Fall…” Her words commanded the energy around her, the misty aura now gathering towards the orb at quickening speeds. She pulled the trigger multiple times, depositing all of her mana bullets into the orb, watching it grow larger and larger as the cartridges shot off to the side. Ejecting the empty magazine, she replaced it with another, repeating the process until the orb was as large as her. She didn’t waste time to admire the power that emanated from the orb, knowing she needed to defeat the monster quickly. Even if Souren held it back with his ability, they didn’t know what it was capable of, so she needed to strike first. “... to my --σηєѕнσт--!” With her words, the hologram turned red, locking on to its target as the orb shot into the distance. She gritted her teeth, making sure to not fly away from the massive recoil, her eyes closed from the flying debris.
The screech from a moment later made her open her eyes, blinking wide at the damage she caused. The monster she targeted lay still, blood oozing from the perfectly circular gaping wound, a crater lining the path between them. Smoke rose from the scorched ground, several rows of monsters eliminated from getting in the way of her bullet. She could only stare in awe for a moment, before shaking her head and jumping up. “Shit! That was amazing!” She punched the air in victory, laughing at her own immense power. That wasn’t even the worst that she could do, almost shaking from what her Origin was capable of. “Did you see that?!” She whipped around to face her teacher, only to see him staring at the portal rather gravely. Following his gaze, she blinked in confusion. The final boss was approaching, or something?
She walked over to him, seeing claws emerge and grasp the edges of the portal. “What is… That?” She asked, wondering if he even knew.

Dude, on the “Don’t Give a Crap” scale, I’m kind of at DEFCON 2 here
Fuck this
T̬͠o̘̭̺̫͖̝͎r̴̮̠va̰̹̲̯͙̕ ̷̞M̲̱̰̹̝̕e͇̟̲̪̭͞sso̱̣̰r̜͖̻̲ͅ
Within a short period of time, the entire district found itself immersed in an unfathomable manifestation of pandemonium, as creatures decorated in putrescent epithelium continued to drop from the sky. Swelteringly, the portal hanging directly above the nightclub started fragmenting, eventually setting off a series of combustive blasts that lit up the atmospheric sphere around them. Soon debris from nearby buildings began catching fire until incandescently plummeting towards the streets below.
Almost immediately after, embers and acrid smolder began filling the air, forcing the citizens of the city to scatter for cover. In an abundancy, screams of absolute horror bellowed outward, becoming almost deafening in its reverberation, as the horde of monstrosities continued running amuck. Indiscriminately, these creatures began lathering the streets in bone and carnage, as the stench of burning flesh perpetuated on, tickling the nostrils of all those, who were unfortunate enough to catch a whiff of the unpleasant aroma.
…..Disgusting….
Gritting her teeth, Sapphire watched on in revulsion, as both of her hands gripped tightly onto the metal railing that bilaterally wrapped around the rooftop. Even if she hated admitting to it, there was absolutely nothing within her power to prevent the horrendous scene unfolding before her eyes. Likewise, there was nothing in close proximity that would secure her escape from this hellish nightmare. At least, nothing that wouldn’t require making a deal with the devil…
Irritated by the thought, she growled beneath her breath, eventually shifting her violent, narrow-gaze towards her boss, who was currently preoccupied protecting the club from total destruction. Edging closer to the ledge, she sighed, as her right hand lifted up, gently tapping her fingertips along the kinetic barrier that surrounded the building. Taking note of the cracks in the shielding, which were beginning to expand.
It won’t be long. The force field won’t hold forever. Soon we’ll all be shit out of luck especially with whatever the fuck is coming out of that fuck-hole above us. No; there’s no choice in the matter. I have to call him. Even if that means-
Taking in a deep, heavy breath, she turned, as her eyes instantly filled with distraught. For a moment or so, she shifted uncomfortably, as her hands began fidgeting ever-so-slightly against her thighs, unable to calm the tension that was already building from within.
How pathetic…. Is this really the only ace up my sleeve? How fucking humiliating…
Squeezing tightly into her leg, she sighed before eventually reaching down into one of her hidden pockets, pulling out small cellular device used for specific contacts. After dialing in a string of numbers, she lifted the phone up, waiting desperately for the man to answer. When he finally did, she hesitated once more, as if something was caught in her throat, preventing her from muttering that single phrase. A phrase he had once predicted she’d inevitably speak aloud, almost as if being puppeteered into saying it. Words, although simplistic in its verbiage, she knew she’d regret in saying for this is always a price to be had.
“I need your help….Souren.” @originofstillness
Inside the building, patrons of the nightclub were faced with their own gruesome nightmare, as the horde quickly overtook the first few floors. Of course, not everyone watched on in horror like helpless sheep. Instead, some took up arms and decided to fight back against the undead monstrosities that had entered. But, unfortunately, despite their efforts nothing could have prepared them for the onslaught of death that awaited them.
“H-heroes… C-ca-can you hear me? I assume you’re out there somewhere… Oh god… they just stormed the building I’m in… Please if you can hear me…answer… I don’t want to die…" For a moment, the woman broke into violent sobs, as she clutched tightly to the radio in her hand. It was luck that she found the device. Luck that she managed to escape with it. But luck was beginning to run out.
With a few suffocating breaths, she continued on, speaking through the microphone. “Please, listen to me very carefully. My name is Rachel. I’m a waitress that works in the main lobby of nightingale. Its uh restaurant located on on 4th Street. Right… you probably don’t know where that’s at… Either way. You need to find it. Because…I… I….have an idea. I don’t know if it’ll work. But on the 10th floor of the building I’m in there’s a supply closet filled with weaponry. There’s also a filing cabinet with tons of keys inside. Search for a key shaped as skull and take it with you. From there, you need to hurry to the third floor of the library. The library is located two blocks away from where I’m at, which is about four blocks away from the nightclub. Once you make it to the third floor there should be a set of offices. Head to the right-wing and use the key. Inside there will be tons of books. I can’t remember which shelf its on but there’s a book on necromancy I remember. It’s a long shot but I think there’s a way to momentarily demobilize these creatures. Please… I beg of you… hurry…. before its too late.” With that, the transmission ended, leaving in its wake static.

Devil
He sat. His throne oversaw the cryptic room. Filled with jars, jars that were filled with brains. They represented his growing number of puppets he had domain over in this city. This was truly a literal representation of a “puppet society”. His control over the city was secure, but it was growing. He sought to gain more control. He knew the generals would attempt to have him killed if they found out what his operation was, but he had made sure it would go in his favor. Like the Counter-force, he had made sure no outside forces could see into the city. He was a master of bounded fields, and nothing would get in without his permission. Soon however, other cities would bend to his will..
A small light flickering caught his attention. A cell phone device. He had taken one from a puppet he killed many days ago. At the words of his student he had carried it on him for pointless reasons. He picked it up and hit the green button to answer. He listened as a female voice spoke to him. Sin city eh? He kept a blank face as he she requested his help. What a twist, she had previously denied his services, and now the time was ripe. He placed the phone down and stepped off the throne and stepped into a elevator. He sent his mind to his students room to awake and prepare her. He would go first and wait for her. He left the elevator and entered the main lobby, opening a portal to Sin City.
He walked through and a coldness surrounded him. The feeling of walking through neck-deep water. He disliked the feeling, it bothered him to no end. But it was effective. He erupted from a black pool and stepped into what appeared to be a nightclub.
He looked up at the fire that blazed the sky. Truly this was an “end of days” scene. Demonic creatures, similar to those he faced at the city outskirts when he met his student, raced through the city. The stench of human death filled the air and sickened him. What a waste of human life, no meaning at all. He looked forward and saw her. The girl, Sapphire, he recalled her name after a moment. He kept a still body and face even as chaos rained around them.
“I believe you called? It seems you are truly in a state of chaotic affairs? Then it is fortunate you have summoned me here. I shall assist you, but this will not go without a sacrifice on your end”
He kept a cold gaze towards her. Staring at her origin and her soul. Interesting, she would make a good weapon if he could put her under control. However, now was not the time…
A large fire-like creature jumped from a balcony and launched itself at him. Calmly, and almost unmoving as he kept his gaze at Sapphire he sensed the creature slam into his bounded-field. His bounded field was powerful, it was almost impossible to even exist, but he had spent hundreds of years perfecting this ability. His three-layered bounded field sent the creature flying backwards into a wall as it bounced off. The field disappeared and he looked away from her as he raised an arm, and crushed the creature with his fingers. Almost at the same time, the field around the building cracked and shattered, the demon must have made a hole in the field. He could make a new one, a better one. But it would take time…
“Girl, you have foolishly let this lesser beings build a pitiful barrier around this building. As a magus, I can raise a barrier around this building that will secure the defense of it. But it will take time..So allow me to introduce my apprentice…Soaria De Corvi”
He looked away from her and sent his mind out of his body. He sent a pulse of energy back to the Forbidden City to ready her, then sent his mind to the 10th floor of the nightingale. He retrieved a vintage Thompson sub-machine gun from a closet and returned. To Sapphire the gun appeared out of thin air. He then turned and opened a portal. Slowly a young, blonde-haired girl appeared with a grin that could scare the devil. Souren extended his arm and handed her the weapon. He turned back to Sapphire and spoke to his apprentice
“I need to raise a field to protect these peasants…But as you can see there is an infestation of filth. Do not let me get disturbed and..try not to kill any of the humans.”
As the sounds of the unnatural creatures filled the building he walked towards Sapphire and raised his arm high to the sky. A large pulse was sent from his fingertips and a continuing wave of energy moved from his hand and surrounded the building. He was creating a bounded field, surely but slowly. Sapphire, she would be in his debt.

---Soaria.
The stirred apprentice rustled under the sheets in her bed, almost willing the voice to go away. Who dared to disturb her? Didn’t they know any better by now? Her arm reached under her pillow, grasping at the stray gun that was hidden there. Clearly, they wanted to die today.
Soaria, awaken.
All at once, the girl sat up, blonde locks flying from the sudden movement. Souren, he was calling her… But why? She looked around, seeing nothing new. They weren’t under attack, and training wasn’t until later… Regardless, she obeyed, jumping out of her bed to walk to her closet.
It was almost funny how she thought she was still in Chicago, under her father’s care. She would blame her sleepy conscious for such a mistake, but it was annoying to know that neither her mind nor body had become accustomed to her surroundings yet. She was usually quick to adapt, but perhaps the change was just too stark of a difference, and it took longer than usual for her to succumb. Still annoying, as she wasn’t one to be forgiving of her own shortcomings, as valid as they were.
Biting on a hairband, she pulled her trench coat over her body, before combing through her hair. Souren really wasn’t a man of many words, but he could’ve at least told her what the hell was going on. Though, for him to wake her up himself, instead of sending a puppet… Surely, it was important. Strapping on her signature guns, she walked out of the room, wondering what to do next. Visit him, she supposed.
Standing next to the elevator, she waited. And waited. And waited some more, until she gritted her teeth from impatience. “Heeeellloooo? Did you wake me up for no reason? What’s the big deal?!” She yelled at the roof, figuring he wasn’t really paying attention to her right now. Kicking at the floor, she humoured the idea of going back to bed, before her eyes widened from another message.
Stand by.
That was new, and could only mean one thing. Her scowl from before curved into a grin, understanding the situation immediately. A battle, a fight, something to curve her itch for violence. Whatever it was, she was ready, the portal that opened before her only filling her with adrenaline. Finally!
She wasted no time stepping through it, unbothered by the odd feeling the portal gave out. Could be because she was too excited to care, or because she’s been through enough of Souren’s portals by now. In seconds, she was in a completely different environment, cooly taking in the state of affairs. Souren stood next her, with an unfamiliar woman, as chaos unraveled around them. An ally? No, she was obviously perturbed by the situation, so she couldn’t have caused it. How odd, but she paid no mind to her any further, taking hold of the gun her teacher handed her. “This thing?” She raised an eyebrow, her grin only widening. It wasn’t often that she got the chance to go trigger happy, but it seemed today was just full of pleasant surprises.
Twirling around, she loaded the gun, waving a lazy hand over her shoulder. “Roger that, boss.” And with that, she leaped into the crowd of demons and monsters, recognizing them well. “Oh, aren’t you the guys that stalked me my first night? Never would’ve thought I’d be able to return the favour.” She smiled, watching them flock around her. Would she be able to use her new power, here? She could already feel herself absorb the magic from these creatures, energized from the mana-heavy atmosphere. It felt… Amazing, really, like she was invincible. Whatever the case, she’d use this opportunity well.
“Come on then,” Her taunt accompanied her glowing gun, waiting until a few of the demons leapt for her. “Fall to my --ѕ¢αттєяѕнσт-- !” Pulling the trigger, the area exploded in blue, her bullet scattering into a bunch of rounds to hit as many of her opponents as possible. She’d have her fun, but she was still given an order, to keep them away from Souren. And, to a lesser extent, she needed to not hurt the other humans, but both required that their enemies paid attention to her and only her. Dodging and running around the beings that swarmed her, she aimed her gun at Souren, firing a single shot. It flew straight past him, barely skimming his hair, but effectively putting a bullet through the monster that was stalking him. “Headshot!” She pumped her gun into the air in victory, before swiftly avoiding a strike from behind, kicking back the looming creature with a laugh.

“…”
He simply nodded and bowed his head. He slowly walked forward and looked into her eyes. Absorption, her origin was strong. It reminded him of those he met in Japan….He would help her. She would not go insane.
He stretched out his hand and focused his energy. He sense through her body. Her magic strands. Each one slowly bursted forth. Soaria had been using magic for awhile, but it was being jump started. Her eyes widened and changed colors before returning to blue. A blue aura slowly released itself from her hands. He stepped back and lowered her arm
“Your origin..It has been unlocked. Be aware, using your new powers too much so soon will result in a…altered state of mind. I will also provide you with new weaponry, which you can find in your room now. As for your new powers..”
Souren stepped back and slowly guided her to her room. He had formed it quickly while they talked. The building was his body, so it was only natural he could control its mechanics
“You will be able to control the magical energy that flows in the air and flows inside us. You will find a..Vampiric taste at times. You will be able to absorb the mana of others, drain them, and power yourself. I will train you to use these powers without going insane. I will also be able to provide you with…subjects to practice your powers on.”
He rounded a corner with her and picked a key from his pocket. He paused and looked down at her. This evening seemed to have gone by quickly. He wondered if the unlocking had disrupted time in the building. Or perhaps the very origin messed with his mind already. He squinted and unlocked the room. It was lavish, fitting for a skyscraper for the old rulers of the city. He simply stepped aside and turned his head from her
“Does this fit you..”
She stood tall as he stepped forward, meeting his empty eyes with her own icy blues. There was a strange sense of determination within them as dull as they were, a hidden sense of duty brought forth with her own ambition. Without a doubt, he had plans for her, more than what he let on. She didn’t have much time to ponder upon the strange find though, as her eyes widened from the startling sensation of having mana returned to her once more.
With gritted teeth did she clench her fists, refraining from expressing the pain of having her circuits jump started, a mixture of agony and relief overwhelming her mind. He could’ve at least warned her that this wouldn’t be easy, but she knew it was foolish to expect anything else. That he wasn’t lying or trying to fool her was all that she was banking on, immensely glad for the opportunity. Could she have survived on her own without her most important skills? As much as she wanted to say yes, she knew her arrogance would’ve killed her by now. What felt like hours of exertion passed in a mere minute, and she let go of the breath she held, panting whilst keeping her knees from buckling under her. It was odd; she was tired, almost to the point of collapsing, but she could feel the familiar power energizing her. It didn’t take long for her to regain her composure, and she stared at her hands, the aura shifting under her gaze.
“... Thank you.” Words she had never uttered before escaped her lips before she could help it, and she stared up at him in slight embarrassment. She owed him-- No, that was an understatement, she was in debt to him forever. To have her powers returned to her before she could even suffer under this world’s cruel sense of humour… Truly, being thankful was all that she could be, as much as the feeling was foreign to her.
“I don’t feel too different, though…” She murmured as he spoke, looking over herself. What did he say? She had an origin called Absorption or something? Sounded pretty useless, now that she thought about it. So she was a sponge for something, in essence. How lame. She huffed, the magic of it all disappearing, though still glad that she got her powers back. She wouldn’t be complaining, not about this of all things. “I’m gonna be a mana vampire from now on, huh? Hmph, sounds stupid.” She scoffed, crossing her arms. She wished she could’ve at least gotten something cooler, like…. Well, she didn’t know how these things worked, but she definitely wasn’t too pleased by what he was explaining.
As she followed him through the building, her thoughts lingered on what he said. “Hey, what do you mean you’ll keep me from going insane?” She asked, guessing it was only natural for something as powerful as an Origin to have some drawbacks too. She supposed by normal standards, she was already quite insane to begin with, so this would only make her worse if she wasn’t careful? An amusing thought, to say the least. But her thoughts were pushed aside as Souren opened the door to her room, eyes widening in awe at the suite before her. “Yooooo!”
She ran inside, jumping straight into the bed and bouncing on the soft mattress. Naturally, as part of a high class mafia, she was used to the luxury that her father allowed her. But this was better, especially since she always wanted to live in an upscale skyscraper, the boring mansion her father owned having irked her for too long. She rolled around on the sheets, hugging one of the pillows close to her before looking back at Souren. “Obviously! But more importantly…” She threw the pillow aside, hopping off the bed to stand in front of him again. “When do we begin training? I want to master this Origin as soon as possible.” Cracking her knuckles, she grinned up at him, seemingly trusting him completely now. She was still a child, regardless of how cold or cautious she seemed, and the way to a child’s heart was to simply give them what they wanted. He had done that and more, not only gaining her trust, but her loyalty as well; he deserved all that she had to offer now, no longer finding any fault within him.
