paddyfinnigan:
It hurts.
Nothing has ever hurt this much. Jesus, he thinks deliriously, make it stop, the thoughts disjointed because the pain demands his focus so absolutely and immediately, somebody, anybody, make it stop. Somebody’s screaming; a distant part of him knows that it must be him but that voice doesn’t sound like him, it’s too high and strained to be him. He’s thrashing, but that’s only forcing the teeth in deeper, only tearing at his flesh even worse. His blood’s too hot as it soaks the ground beneath him, making his shirt stick to his skin and peel away painfully as he writhes in agony. He lets out a wordless howl as its teeth–her teeth seem to almost grind against his bones. “Valerie.”
The screaming shakes the silence of the forest, just like it had the last time she had torn someone apart. He writhes underneath her, but he doesn’t help himself, instead her claws just dig deeper, clawing at his shoulders, his chest his ribs. Teeth stay firmly lodged in his shoulder, she can taste his blood on her tongue as it seeps from the bite. At one point he moves a bit too much for her liking, so she clamps her jaw down harder with a growl. The name makes the beast pause for a moment. That’s her name. The girl currently locked tightly away, screaming for the beast to stop (not that it ever listens). It only makes her angrier, and she removes one clawed hand from his chest to swipe at his face, leaving four jagged, bleeding lines across his complexion.
paddyfinnigan:
The back of his neck is prickling with the feeling of being watched.
He rolls his shouders back as he walks, tries to shake off the sensation of being followed, even though, considering where he is, being followed isn’t entirely out of the question. But he doesn’t want to dwell on the fact that there’s probably some creature or another stalking him as he makes his way back through the trees, towards where he thinks the party is. Paddy has to stop though, when the feeling grows overwhelming, and he fumbles for his wand. His hands shake but he manages to murmur the spell and his silvery hawk comes bursting from the end of his wand, carrying a message to a trusted friend. Molly’ll come, if she can get away, if she can find him.
A sound behind him has his eyes widening, breath hitching painfully, and he whirls, staggering backwards with a ragged gasp.
It takes the beast very little time at all to find him. Not many humans wonder this deep into her forest, so his scent is easy to follow. The other creatures in the forest hurry out of her way, knowing how unwise it is to get in the path of a wolf on the hunt. And it has been so long since she has had a human to hunt. The girl normally takes her too deep into the forest, leaving the beast to sate herself by scratching at her own skin. But this is so much better. She slows to a stop only a few hundred feet from where he is, yellow eyes honing in on the pale skin under the moon; pale human skin. Her claws twitch just at the thought and a low growl rumbles from in her chest as she picks up her pace once again. Werewolves have never been known as patient creatures. He shouldn’t have looked back. He should have just started running as soon as he heard her. But he doesn’t and she’s upon him within moments, claws finding purchase in his arms and legs as she throws him to the ground. Already the beast can feel his blood against her skin, and she looks down at him for the briefest moment, before she snarls and sinks her teeth into his shoulder.
Spike Scorpius’ drink. An angry huff leaves her lips as she stands over the refreshments table, the Befuddlement Draught in one hand, a drink in the other. This X person was going to be in a world of pain when she finds out who it is. She glances up at the moon, it’s still early, so she has time. With just a moment more of hesitation, she tips the draught into the drink, quickly discarding the vial before picking up her own cup. She finds him sitting by himself against a tree, and so she takes a seat next to him and offers him a drink, “You looked like you could use a pick-me-up.”
@scorpm
“You love him so// Just runnin' scared// Afraid to lose// If he came back// Which one would you choose? || Sweet Val, let me ask you that question. If you had one wish, would you choose Paddy or not being a werewolf? Well, in case you would choose Paddy, I dare you to spike Scorpius’ drink.” ~X.
The obvious answer here is ‘not being a werewolf’ but for some reason Val isn’t so sure. Now part of her wonders if she could really give up Paddy for the chance to be free of her curse. She shakes off those thoughts, it isn’t important now, there’s no cure for lycanthropy and Paddy is never going to be hers. The important part is that this X person wants her to spike someone’s drink. Why Scorpius of all people? They had never even had a conversation. She crumbles the letter, an angry huff leaving her lips. Spike it with what? That’s a massive loophole to leave open. Whatever it is she has to find something quick. After carefully digging through the belongings of her (thankfully) absent dorm mates, all she can find is a Befuddlement Draught, undoubtedly made during a potions lesson. With the potion safely in her pocket, and the note burning in fire, she makes her way down to the Forbidden Forest
paddyfinnigan:
“I don’t care,” he replies simply and he means it; the possibility of getting hurt is a minor detail, especially in comparison to what Valerie’s about to go through. He winces every time one of her joints pops or grind together, and he has to grit his teeth against the bile that wants to crawl up his throat. “It’ll be alright, Val,” he murmurs, rubbing her arm in what he hopes is a comforting way. “You’re not alone, yeah? And I know you wouldn’t…you aren’t going to hurt me.” He waits until they’re deep enough in the forest before he helps her lean against a tree. “I’m going to go back and see if I can clear out the party.” He probably won’t be able to, if X has anything to say about it. “I’ll come find you tomorrow.” And that’s how he leaves her. He can’t help but stop and look back once he’s gotten a fair distance away.
He has so much faith in her, more faith than she has ever had in herself. Her hand curls into a fist in his shirt and she briefly presses her forehead to his shoulder, a harsh sob leaving her lips. She can only nod in response to his words, trembling where she stands. Green eyes follow him as he disappears back into the forest, praying to everyone and everything she can think of that he makes it out. Then she hears the cracking, pain blinding her as she falls to her knees, her cry echoing around the trees. She can feel herself slipping away with each passing moment, until it takes over completely. Where small, dainty hands once were now are claws. Lips pulls back in a low snarl, revealing deadly fangs. She sniffs the air, human clothes lay in tatters on the ground, but she is familiar with that scent. No. She can smell a new human in the forest now. So the beast stands and shakes herself off before running after him.
elliot-mccrae:
“Oh, um, I’m sorry. I was just going to ask if you had seen Lily, but it’s not that big of a deal. I’m sure I can find her on my own eventually.” he said, “Is everything okay though?”
Valerie clenches her jaw and huffs, trying to ease the churning inside her. “No, sorry I snapped. I haven’t seen Lily actually, maybe by the fire?” She lifts a hand to run a hand through her hair, “I’m fine...I just don’t feel great.”
themalrobinson:
“Oh, come on. What’s got you in such a hurry?” Mallory asked with a raised eyebrow, a smirk on her face. She shook her head and regarded her carefully, “Can’t you just stay a little longer? I’m sure things are going to be really fun soon, and I need someone to hang out with.”
She glances over at the other girl, eyebrows apparently permanently fixed together, “Mallory, I know we got off on the wrong foot the other day and I’m sorry about that. I’ve been...sick lately and it’s put me in a bad mood. That’s why I can’t stay. I just need to find Paddy, he has something that’s meant to help me.” Well, it wasn’t a total lie.
paddyfinnigan:
“I’m not just gonna leave you, Valerie.” He’s appalled by the very thought and he shakes his head, vehement. Paddy knows the risks, doing this, of course he does. He’s heard all the horror stories about werewolf attacks, about people being torn apart and permanently scarred. But he knows for a fact that Valerie’s never had anyone to help her through his before, and why can’t he be the first? “Look, I’m going to take you as far as I can before I absolutely need to leave your side and you aren’t going to get rid of me til then. Now, come on.” He started pulling her along again, mindful of the shoulder that had made the sickening popping sound.
The fact that he doesn’t leave immediately surprises her. She wants to hug and push him away at the same time. But she doesn’t do either. There are tears rolling down her face as she looks at him, she’s so scared. The shift is always a terrifying experience, but now with Paddy here...she didn’t know what she would do if she hurt him. “But you might get hurt Paddy...” Her voice is weak, just a whimper. Despite her protest she doesn’t resist as he begins to pull her further into the forest, hands gripping him tightly as more bones begin to pop out of place and grind against each other. There’s a painful rolling in her chest and she wheezes, “It’s...it’s getting close.”
paddyfinnigan:
In all honesty, the full moon had been the furthest thing from his mind when he’d tromped out into the Forbidden Forest earlier that night. He’d been too consumed with thoughts of X and of Beth; he’d written to her just last week and had finally, finally heard back. So, when Val practically stumbles into his arms, he catches her reflexively, fingers curling around her upper arms lightly. “Whoa–” is all he manages before she’s speaking. He listens rapty, eyes widening in horrified realisation. He ignores the letter – he already knows what it says – and it flutters to the ground. He begins to pull her in the direction of the trees, thankful that no one’s seen them. “Right, come on, we’ll…we’ll go, yeah? Get you away from all these people.”
The way his hands grip her upper arms steadies her for a moment. (She’ll never admit it, but it’s the first time she’s fallen and someone’s been there to catch her.) Her heart is hammering painfully against her ribcage and her lungs constrict, every passing moment the moon getting higher and higher. Valerie stumbles again as they move toward the trees, but thanks to Paddy’s strong grip on her she manages to get her footing once more. She’s glad to be hidden by trees, but she’s still far too close for comfort to the party, and more importantly, Paddy. As if to warn her about the impending transformation there’s a sickening popping sound from one of her shoulders, and she gasps in pain, but she needs to focus. Her eyes meet Paddy’s, “You need to get out of here. I’m going to keep going into the forest, get as far away from everyone as I can. But you need to get out of here. Please.”
“Paddy!” The relief when she sees him through the crowd is instantaneous. With the most recent X letter clutched tightly in her shaking hand she begins pushing through the others, towards him, stumbling when she finally reaches him and only steadying herself moments away from hitting his chest. Valerie opens her mouth to speak, but is cut off by a ripple of pain, her free hand clutching her shirt as her whole body trembles. “Help…me…” Is all she can manage through clenched teeth, holding out the now crinkled X letter for him to see, her eyes beginning to glass over with tears, “Paddy I can’t-I can’t be here.” Her hand moves to his chest as she sways on the spot, steadying herself, “I didn’t…I didn’t know who else to go to.”
@paddyfinnigan
“Look,” she doesn’t mean to be so blunt with the other but she really needs to find Patrick and get the hell out of there before the moon hit it’s highest point. She can already feel the familiar, painful churning in her chest, “I’m in a really big hurry so unless whatever you have to say is of life or death importance I would really, really appreciate it if we could continue this conversation at some other time.”
You have been invited to my party in the forbidden forest. If you don't show up, I'll tell everyone your secret. Get ready for some fun. ~X
Her hands shake as she clutches the envelope, hesitating for only a moment before tearing it open. She’s so sick of this, the fear inside of her that at any moment someone will reveal what she is and what she did. “No no no no…” She reads the lines over and over again. This can’t be happening, not tonight. Any other night. There’s a lump in her throat and she rubs at her eyes angrily, trying to clear them of tears. She has no choice, she has to go to the party. Perhaps she can get there early and leave before anything happens. That still counts as showing up. A heavy sigh leaves her lips and she drags a hand through her hair, she needs to find Paddy.

“I’ve got it on good authority,” good authority being a pair of fourth year snakes she’d heard gossiping in the Great Hall, “that the two of you were getting nice and cosy in your common room the other day.” Molly waggled her eyebrows and made a kissy face at her friend, breaking into giggles immediately afterwards. “It’s not as hard to chat up a bloke as you seem to think. Just ask him about how you think you lot are going to go in your next Quidditch match.”
“We were just talking and I didn’t want to be overheard.” Valerie mumbles somewhat miserably, “Our common room is incredibly echo-y.” She doesn’t share her friend’s apparent glee about the situation, thoroughly convinced that someone like Patrick Finnigan will forever remain out of her league. “Maybe I don’t want to chat him up.” Comes her reply, not meeting Molly’s eyes, “Perhaps I want nothing to do with him just like he wants nothing to do with me.”
maureenavery:
“I don’t know for you, but I need to get some Quidditch practice to destress a little.” Maureen started, turning her head towards the nearest person. “I wouldn’t mind if you wanted to tag along.”
Valerie looks up at the older girl in surprise, nervously tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, “O-oh, I don’t play, I’m not a big flyer.” There’s a moment of silence from her before she continues, “But I guess I could watch?”

“You’d be interested because he’s fit and you’d stay interested because he’s sweet, really, and kind, most of the time.” Molly knew all of this from experience, although her feelings for the Irish boy had never run very deep. She had to roll her eyes at Valerie’s self-deprecation, though. “Of course you do, and of course he is. You trust me, don’t you, Val?” Stupid question, really.
“Okay, he is fit, I will give him that, and maybe he’s sweet and kind and as wonderful as you say he is, doesn’t mean I’m interested.” She clenches her jaw, unwanted thoughts of Patrick flooding her mind, like how it had felt to sit pressed against his side, fitting together like puzzle pieces... Valerie blinks furiously, the blush on her cheeks now rampant, “Oh please, he’s never given any indication that he’s into me. We’ve hardly even had a proper conversation!”
