Headcanon for Brahms' NB S/O with an early 1900s aesthetic
At first sight, Brahms wasn't sure what to think of you. He was confused about your gender since he's only had women apply for the nanny position. You were different, and definitely in a good way because you've become too interesting for Brahms to let you go away.
Mrs. Heelshire is not too bothered by you, at least she doesn't say so verbally.
Mr. Heelshire is delighted by your attire. You remind him of one of his uncles, especially the ones that traveled to America.
Malcolm remains polite around you, but inside he's chuckling and wondering if you had time-traveled.
Once you settled in, after the Heelshire's left, you unpacked everything. Of course, Brahms watched you closely.
He really wanted to go through your things but waited until you've left the room and went downstairs.
He stole your trousers, shirt, pants, and sweater.
As he examined your clothing, he found an interesting outfit that was definitely out of place.
It was a Plague Doctor uniform with a dark leathery mask and matching hat.
He didn't know if you dressed up in this for fun or not...
He looked through your other trunks and saw multiple old and large canvas or leather-bound textbooks, with strange tools hidden under them.
Another trunk held herbs, flowers, jars of liquids, poultice, bandages, cotton pads, etc. It was like a large first aid kit.
You had placed a stuffed bunny on the bed, which he liked and briefly considered stealing.
He would need to wait until you, eventually, reveal more about yourself. He isn't sure how to do that, since he doesn't like being social, so this would take a while.
You were the only one of his nannies to follow the rules on the first day, and continuously after. He liked that.
Also, he liked your aesthetic. It's similar to his and suited you nicely.
When he talked to you, you took a while to process a disembodied child's voice spoke to you, but you decided to help Brahms open up - socially.
He watched you go through the routine. He watched you make food, even put in requests.
He watched you while you slept, even stole a lock of your hair - near the back of your head so you wouldn't notice.
He kept himself unseen until the Heelshire's sent their final letter. You read it to Brahms the Doll, and was shocked that they said you were a gift to Brahms.
You almost left, basically debated with yourself half the day, but decided to stay because not only was everything left to you... Brahms needed you.
That night Brahms waited outside your bedroom door for a while before he knocked. He asked if he can come in, you said yes, and was surprised to see that he was an adult.
You're smart and quickly pieced together the story before you got up and hugged Brahms. You heard him crying earlier and knew how heartbroken he was.
He was beyond grateful that you accepted him so easily. He's vowed to never let you go. You are his forever, as he is yours.
You and Brahms settled into bed, him not letting go, as you let him cuddle with your bunny as well. Despite his adult body, he had become a lost and scared little boy - like the day of the fire, but he had you this time.
Your studies and work was placed aside, for now, to focus on socializing and caring for Brahms.
Also, you think he'd make a great apprentice in the future... maybe...
