Spent some time tonight making the first version of my Frankenstein 1818 edition timeline. I made some small corrections and additions from my original paper version, but I think there is plenty more to expand up/clarify from this version. (I am using the Penguin Classics edition if you want to read along with what I've mocked up.) Edit: Link to a web version of the document with additional information.

why is Robert Walton genuinely so down bad for Victor Frankenstein in these letters damn “He must have been a noble creature in his better days, being even now in wreck so attractive and amiable” so you think he’s hot whilst being a complete and utter wreck? “My affection for my guest increases every day” oh I’m sure it does.

Being a Frankenstein fanatic who also has a career in theatre means that quite often someone will ask me if I've seen the National Theatre Frankenstein from 2011. And every time I play this fun mental game to decide if I can be honest and say I hate that play, or if I need to play it chill and hold back my actual feelings. Either way I'm always very complimentary of the design of the production and of the National Theatre itself, but damn I hate that script and I need people to know that about me unfortunately.

Without it Western culture simply would not have Frankenstein, The Vampyre, and all the adaptations (at least the good ones) that have come out of them and continue to enthrall audiences — and provide abjections for them — up to the present."

mary shelley’s frankenstein was truly one of the most life changing books i’ve ever read. Like I can’t just read “I was benevolent and good; misery made me a fiend” and “am I to be thought the only criminal, when all human kind sinned against me” and be completely normal about it
