Do Not Open | Yan. Alastor x Reader.
A DARLING'S SURVIVAL GUIDE
If this manual has reached your possession, it is likely already too late.
[Distribution is highly restricted.]
>Subject: The Radio Demon.
>Classification: Catastrophic.
>Threat Level: Ongoing.
_________________________
>Foreword
Congratulations.
Through a combination of misfortune, poor judgment, and circumstances beyond your control, you have attracted the attention of the Radio demon.
This manual exists to attempt assisting you in navigating the resulting situation.
Please note that survival and happiness are not interchangeable outcomes.
_________________________
>Section: I Recognizing Early Symptoms
The earliest warning signs are often dismissed as harmless.
This is a mistake.
>Common symptoms include:
Increased appearances.
Excessively convenient encounters.
Being remembered far more thoroughly than expected.
Possessing information he should not reasonably know.
Feeling observed despite the absence of witnesses.
At this stage, a victim may incorrectly assume they remain in control of the situation.
This assumption typically expires within several weeks. [If proven generous.]
Section: II Common Misconceptions
>"He will eventually become bored."
False. If boredom were sufficient, this manual would not exist.
>"He is simply being friendly."
Partially true. Unfortunately, these conditions are not mutually exclusive.
>"If I explain how I feel, he will understand."
Incorrect. Alastor is capable of understanding your words. The issue lies elsewhere.
>"He wants me happy."
Complicated. See Section VII.
Section: III Acceptable Behavior
>The following actions are generally considered safe:
Polite conversation.
Reasonable disagreement.
Possessing interests outside of him.
Maintaining basic independence.
[Consult local conditions before proceeding.]
>Furthermore, effective Methods:
Ask Questions.
Alastor enjoys speaking. More specifically, he enjoys speaking about things he understands better than everyone else.
>Recommended topics include:
Radio.
History.
Music.
Literature.
Himself. [Subtle applications only]
Seek His Opinion.
Humans enjoy feeling valued. Alastor enjoys feeling correct.
[These concepts overlap more frequently than expected.]
Section IV: Unacceptable Behavior
>The following actions are not recommended:
Running away.
Making deals with competing entities.
Referring to him as "creepy."
Attempting a psychological analysis in his presence.
Suggesting he is emotionally attached.
[Emphasis on the last one.]
>Ineffective Methods:
Excessive compliments.
Obvious manipulation.
Feigned helplessness.
Pretending to agree with everything he says.
[He notices. You are not as subtle as you believe.]
Section V: Punishments
Contrary to popular belief, punishments are rarely physical.
This should not reassure you.
>More common examples include:
Prolonged uncertainty.
Embarrassment.
Humiliation.
Strategic guilt.
Being forced to realize you have accidentally proven him correct.
[Reports prefer physical injury.]
>Avoiding Punishments:
Surprisingly, avoiding punishment is possible. Unfortunately, consistency is not.
Readers should understand that Alastor's standards fluctuate according to circumstances, mood, and whatever currently entertains him.
As such, the following recommendations should be viewed as guidelines rather than guarantees.
>Rule One: Never lie poorly. Should you choose to lie, ensure the lie is worth telling.
>Rule Two: Avoid excessive obedience. This recommendation often confuses first-time readers. You may assume compliance is the safest option.
This is only partially true.
Alastor enjoys cooperation. He does not enjoy boredom.
Subject displaying complete passivity frequently report increased teasing, manipulation, and "tests."
Researchers suspect he becomes restless when denied resistance.
>Rule Three: Avoid excessive resistance. Researchers would like to apologize for Rule Two.
>Rule Four: If forced to choose between upsetting him and insulting his intelligence
—Upset him.
Recovery rates improve dramatically.
>Rule Five: Do not assume forgiveness and forgetfulness are interchangeable concepts.
They are not.
>Methods of Flattery:
Readers are advised to proceed carefully.
Improper flattery is often interpreted as manipulation.
This would be hypocritical. Unfortunately, hypocrisy has never prevented him from enjoying himself.
Section VI: The Illusion of Freedom
You are free, technically. You may visit friends, pursue hobbies, maintain routines.
This arrangement often creates a false sense of security.
Do not be alarmed. The realization arrives eventually.
Section VII: On Affection
>Overview
This section remains under active review.
Alastor is entirely capable of becoming attached. The difficulty lies in the fact that these feelings do not naturally produce restraint.
As a result, many actions performed in the name of affection are nearly indistinguishable from imprisonment.
Over time, certain forms of physical affection may become ritualized.
Examples include:
Greeting kisses.
Walking arm-in-arm.
Adjusting clothing.
Hand kisses.
Casual proximity violations.
[The danger lies not in the ritual itself, but in removing it.]
>Removal of Established Affection:
Researchers strongly advise caution.
Once the subject becomes accustomed to specific behaviors, their absence may attract unwanted attention.
Statements such as:
"I simply wasn't in the mood."
"I forgot."
"I didn't think it mattered."
have all produced undesirable results.
Section VIII: Long-Term Exposure
After several years, the victim might commonly exhibit the following symptoms:
Recognizing his footsteps.
Monitoring his moods automatically.
Anticipating conversations before they occur.
Forgetting what life felt like beforehand.
Researchers remain uncertain whether this constitutes adaptation or surrender.
Commonly Asked Questions:
Does he actually care? >Maybe.
Is he capable of love? >Unknown.
Does he believe he loves you? >Potentially.
[This distinction has proven unhelpful in practice.]
Would he choose me over himself?>Insufficient data.
Would he choose me over everyone else?>Increasingly likely.
[This is not necessarily comforting.]
Can I fix him? >No. The committee is tired of answering this question.
Final Notes:
Should the reader find themselves wondering when exactly things became irreversible, please understand:
The answer is rarely obvious. Victim reports noticing only in retrospect.
Usually after discovering that they have begun making decisions with him in mind even when he is not present.
By then, the situation has generally progressed beyond the scope of this manual.

i'd like to add that the shadow color isnt necessarily dictated entirely by the primary light source, but the bounce light! so for the example of a sunny environment, the reason the shadows are blue are because of the light from the blue sky reflects across the environment; but, if the character were to be under tree cover, the bounce light would be coming from the leaves and thus the shadow would look greener.
Yee yee!!! You got it right on the nose!
Bounce light is something I didn't cover but I adore it!
Gotta work on my bounce light 💪

James Gurney is an absolute master and gives really good clarity on colour techniques. Yes, it is traditional paint focused, but the principles are the same. Yes it is informed by the environmental colour but as a painting technique it is achieved this way!
I would also suggest that in digital processing, rather than apply a regular colour layer at a mid opacity, try out the different types of layers, Eg. Screen or Multiply. This can give you at least a starting point to help direct your colour palette.
Layer Blend Modes are so so so important to working in digital art. There's a ton of math that goes into figuring out how the layers should blend together, which is why some of the modes you can pick are literally called Multiply, Add, Divide, and Difference (that's subtraction). The graphics software takes the color values of your base and blend layers and runs a calculation to get your resulting layer appearance. The ones that don't have specifically mathematical sounding names are still doing calculations, but they're more complicated (think linear Algebra and higher). Some of them, like dodge and burn, are named for actual photo editing techniques.
While it's not super important to know about the mathematical side of blend modes, I think it's worth knowing at least enough about how each of the categories of blend modes works and why they do what they do; if for no other reason than having a starting point when you start experimenting with them in your work.
An overview of the basic blend modes and how they work from Genevieve's Design Studio: Accessible with minimal color knowledge; practical and illustration focused. https://youtu.be/kMc87hQrJd0?si=TWCB365pKSfWS8p0. (16 minutes) This creator also has a ton of free resources you can download, including a Blend Modes cheatsheet, but fair warning: you have to create an account to get them!
Want to learn even more about the math-y stuff? It has great film visuals! A video from FilmmakerIQ: You need some basic knowledge of RGB color models, understanding of values/luma, and at least a tenuous understanding of Algebraic formulas. Plushies started arriving for people and they’re horible quality. One guy even got a Sprout with legs for arms (top post on the DW sub right now).
I’m starting to think ordering a refund the day before the “announcement” that the packages cleared customs was a blessing in disguise.
I have a phat bank account and I have a bootleg Dandy plush that’s bizarrely the exact same quality, if not better, than the plushie keychains
Yeah, luckily I didn't buy any of the plushies. I saw it on reddit though.
Qwel actually needs to address this because all of the current plushies together cost about $96 for quality that's not even there. Idk, I'm not a pricing expert but I'm pretty sure that I would be paying more than what they're worth.
Plushies in question:
Source of screenshots
EDIT: It was $96 not $140. Not great at quick math haha.
I'm looking over my old posts and I'm just laughing like a goblin about how these look like they came out of a chinese sweatshop.
btw it's so fucking stupid you can be anxious physically in your body even after you've decided mentally you don't care. I'm supposed to be in charge here
Tidbit of something I'm working on.
There's actually a really good chance this ends up being more than 4k words as I'm actually fleshing out more of the finer details.
This is a oneshot btw. Not DW or MD nor TADC related.
What about a tutorial on bodies? I've been struggling to draw bodies for a while and wanted some help with it...
Anatomy and drawing bodies is such a vast topic to study- there’s a lot to learn and honestly, there’s no better way to improve than just getting out there and drawing from life, or at least drawing from photographs and medical drawings.
At any rate, I tried to give a very simplified, general anatomy rundown. I hope it helps! If anyone has something they’d like me to explain further or go into more detail on, shoot me an ask. It’s hard to cover broad topics like this in a single tutorial.
It is sad that Caine probably would never know it was never Kinger's intention to delete him.. and Bubble being there in the recycle bin with him would only go so well
Wanted to practice Caine's head
why did bubble do that
Everyone’s gone on without you…
Some Heartful AU Showtime doodles and other stuff. :)
Scratch poking Abel This will have consiquences and the avatar is banking on it again
For an advances AI Scratch just plays with Abel however he wants.
Is Scratch this malicious when he was a human? - No. He was eccentric, introverted and in his own mind - but also a great friend. Both Kinger and Queenie valued time they spent with him, while working on software. This is why they are trying to give Scratche's avatar a chance, but its still too uncomfortable. Is Abel oblivious? Despite being more complex than Caine - he is actually much more "corporate", emotionally stunted and safer. Yeah better as a host AI, but doesn't catches on when someone is just playing on his fears and doubts. Diminish his only thing he does right - he fumbles immediatelly. I guess that's a trait brothers have in common. If you would to compare Abel's adventrures to Caine's - his are safer, easier and straight forward, but very boring. Literaly from point A to point B. If Caine makes them a bit too wild - Abel doesn't even try. He has a protocol and he will follow it.
Not me spewing pages to get to the meat and potatoes already
Fancomic for @ctrl-alt-del-au (Because I couldn't stop thinking about this precious au
[End]
I couldn't get the idea for this comic out of my head- so I ended up drawing 28 panels in 3 days... (Orignally planned out to only be 12 Panels long, but I really wanted it to feel less rushed WHICH IT IS-- but I'm limited to 30 files so I had to wrap it up)
This AU belongs to @ ctrl-alt-del-au, and it is an au I love and cherish- and I couldn't wait for their comic to reach to ep 5 mark for the bar adventure- so I made my own version-! (I'm patiently waiting for that canon comic >:) Can't wait to see that one) And of course, I heard that this au's Jax makes fun of Caine b'cus he thinks that he's neurodivergent, and I just made that roll for the entire comic >:)
Anyways I hope this isn't too cringe and weird- I put way too much effort into what was meant to be a very short comic spawned from an idea I got at 1am-- I just thought wayyyy too hard about what Caine would say in the bar adventure
