IMBOLC is pronounced as "um-bol-ck".

OSTARA is pronounced as "oh-star-uh".

*BELTANE/BEALTAINE is pronounced as "byal-tin-ah".

LITHA is pronounced as "lee-tha".

LUGHNASADH is pronounced as "LOO-nah-sah".

MABON is pronounced as "mah-bun".

SAMHAIN is pronounced as "sow-in".

YULE is pronounced as "yool".

The reason frequently given is that fruiting trees could become a hazard to pedestrians if the fruit falls onto the sidewalk and gets smeared around (which is understandable: someone could fall and hurt themselves). Of course, there are methods to catch fruit before it lands on the ground, like the giant nets they put under almond or olive trees. The larger reason appears to be "we don't want people having easy access to food".

In fact, civil engineers have created a public health crisis due to their pursuit of exclusively male trees-- to the point of cloning heterozygous trees to make only male versions of them. The pollen they produce has no female tree to pollinate, meaning it just wafts around in the air leading to increased rates of allergies and asthma in urban and outlying areas.
