This nails it. UKIP, as hated as they are, polled almost 4 million votes & got 1 seat. LibDems polled 2.5 million & got 8 seats.

Of those that voted, barely more than a third actually wanted a Tory govt. If you include all those that were eligible but who failed to vote for whatever reason, only 1 in 4 people woke up with the govt. they’d voted for.

First Past the Post is a broken system and this election has really shone a spotlight on that - but that also means there’s no incentive for those in power to seek a change.
