Matty what's happening with Olicity? This episode hurt my hopes so much!
Oh anon. I completely get where you’re coming from.Â
I, however, actually felt really hopeful after the episode. I even had a goofball smile on my face. Because this episode may not have been much Olicity wise but it was immense when it came to Oliver and Felicity as individuals vis-a-vis each other.Â
That makes me hopeful.Â
For example, that balcony scene.Â
That scene made me remember this
the happy times of Oliver coming home to a happy Felicity.
Things are so different now. Yet, very similar.Â
In my opinion, the balcony scene was a brilliant scene. As was the scene in the office. For Oliver and Felicity as individuals.
Oliver
The situation was bad. Perfect for Broody Oliver. He was just discovering Felicity had been lying to him about something important for months, and not even from her but some random person. He could have done so many things in that scene - reacted in so many ways. He could have accused her of doing the same things he’d done, or some other douche move that any normal ex would probably have done.
But Oliver Queen, in this entire episode, won me over, when it comes to Felicity.
Because he jumped on the balconyÂ
(delicious by the way), got a little flustered and talked to her, openly and honestly, giving her the chance to talk back.
And then, he showed an immense amount of personal growth by simply telling Felicity this.
He admitted he was hurt while he was hurting, opening himself up to even more possibility of being hurt. He did not close up, like Felicity had told him he did. He did not clam up like he’d done every time his heart had been broken in the past.
He’d told Felicity this when they broke up
And he proved it today by utterly being honest to her about it, rather than brooding.Â
Then this
(I swear every time Oliver tells Felicity he wants her to be happy, I do this happy dance because things just come back together soon afterwards, as their history has proved)
That is some fucking phenomenal personal growth.
He was gracious and accepting of her decisions as an individual, giving her so much respect while also making his personal feelings clear.Â
That man in the shirt with folded sleeves who climbs balconies in the middle of the night to have a heart to heart, is an utter gentleman to this woman. As much as I love broody Oliver, I adored how matured he was about his reaction.Â
And Felicity witnessed all of it.
Felicity
You know what struck about Felicity in that balcony scene?
This.Â
Look at her face. This is not the face you make when your ex fiance (the person that you’ve told repeatedly about the need to move on) tells you that
No, that face is something likeÂ
(this was her face when Ray told her the same thing more or less)
Face 1 is nowhere near Face 2.Â
