Don’t feel much like celebrating today? Me neither. Let’s all do this instead.
give me either a 90 minute musical with no intermission and a 7:00 curtain or a three-and-a-half hour golden age epic, I take nothing in between.

(Spoiler Free)
It’s been a week since I saw Cursed Child and I can’t get it out of my head. Over the past week I’ve struggled so much with putting my finger on why I had such a profound reaction to this play. For a moment I even thought that I didn’t like it. I thought that my heart wasn’t strong enough to watch these characters I love so immensely go through what they do in Cursed Child.
I’ve also reevaluated my relationship with Harry. I cried on the walk home and into the night after realizing just how much I love him as a person. I felt like over the years I had tied Harry up too much with his own brand. I thought I loved him because he was the face of Harry Potter but since last week I have found that while I may identify more with Hermione for obvious reasons or I may love Dumbledore for telling Harry the things that I needed to hear, Harry is the closest to my heart because I went through that life changing journey with HIM. He taught me to be the kind of person I have grown to become and I took that for granted. I want him to know that while he may feel like he doesn’t know how to raise a teenager, what he doesn’t realize is that he beautifully raised millions of us.
I am now on the brink of adulthood, (okay, maybe a little over the brink but definitely mentally drifting between) and I found Cursed Child to be so reminiscent of the scene in Deathly Hallows in which Harry’s loved ones come out of the Resurrection Stone to bring him to his death. I spent my childhood with these people and here I am now, terrified and uncertain of what lies ahead and suddenly I look up and I am surrounded by the ghosts of the people I love from my past, but they’re grown now and they’re reaching their arms out to me and saying, “we know you’re scared, but we are still here to guide you and you will be okay.”
