A review on "Miss Brill" by Katherine Mansfield
Okay so they are a booklr account now?
Well I'm doing what I like and I like reading as much as I love watching movies.
The book I finished today was "Miss Brill" by Katherine Mansfield. The book (published by Penguin in the series of "Little Black classics") consisted of two other stories alongside of "Miss Brill": "A Marriage Á la Mode" and "The Stranger." All three of them were very strong stories and here is what I think of them.
Although I liked this book I sometimes found it a little bit hard to understand, maybe it is because I have problems with my attention span or because I tend to have a hard time with modernist writing styles, maybe both. However I must say that despite these issues the stories caught my attention quite well. They could make me experience the emotional state those characters had been through. I was specifically sad for Miss Brill.
The book as many other modernist writings focuses on individual loneliness. You can feel the characters' suffering in solitude while they are surrounded by so many people. The stories are not devoid of dialogues but then again, does forming dialogues make us less lonely? I feel like Mansfield shows these states way too well. That's what I like about her. But unfortunately this book was a little bit underwhelming and slow for me so I withheld some points. Other than my personal shenanigans I think it was a nice read.
And it didn't escape from my attention that Mansfield told two stories from a male perspective, one shifting from male to female. That was also interesting. She was talking about how the male partners saw the female partners like a "thing" and at some part the character actually used "something" for referring his wife. It was interesting to see although we could see the sadness of male characters that we could relate to we could also see them objectifying their female partners. I think the struggle never changes, even the people you see the closest might be referring to you as "something his". Such a pity. Of course the meaning might change with the perspective you choose to see the stories from. My feminist approach kind of caused me to interpret it like this even though the quote might also be interpreted as quite sentimental.
P.S. : Please tell me what you agree or don't agree on kindly. I am all for criticism but I will not entertain mindless insults. And please did Katherine Mansfield and Virginia Woolf have a situationship??!! I didn't know that!!
Prints for Venezuela
I'm working with @fawnduu and @aphyray to raise funds and encourage donations to aid the people of Venezuela in the aftermath of devastating earthquakes, which were followed by flash floods. Here's how you can join:
Courtney and I designed two prints/stickers featuring wildlife symbols of Venezuela, such as the troupial, araguaney trees, and the flor de Mayo orchid. These are mini prints and die cut stickers that you can receive when you donate.
You can send proof of donation of at least $20 to printsforvenezuela at gmail, which is being managed by our friend and colleague @aphyray who will also be matching donations. The first $1000 will be matched dollar-for-dollar.
Find an organization here: donarseguro.com/en
We'll be accepting donation receipts throughout July, and we'll send out the prints and stickers at the end of the month in a plain ol envelope with a stamp. Dios bendiga a Venezuela ❤️

Nigerian Pride 🏳️🌈🇳🇬
I meant to have this out yesterday. Happy belated pride. :)
Dyke Knights ⚔️
I don't engage in online sapphic discourse from America because I know that people who claim to know queer history are just American-centric people who learn queer history from Tiktok and to be frank they don't even know American queer history they claim to know with all of its nuances, they couldn't utter a word if I asked them "What was the lesbian seperatist movement?" Why would I give up my peace for people who are cosplaying as historians online who didn't even read the books they show as examples? Who don't even know how to analyse their environments? Who have takes that are so disconnected to real world?
Anyways happy pride month, don't make stupid points this year like the last pride.
people don’t enjoy shipping anymore. the point of shipping isn’t the catharsis of watching them kiss onscreen, it’s grabbing the characters and mashing their faces together like you’re five years old playing Barbie in your room again. it’s to take one moment of eye contact in canon and read that over and over and over again with twenty different writers’ interpretations of the characters internal monologues if they were in love. it’s to see the characters interact and cheer because you know that’s another moment to add to your list of canon compliant fic ideas. you’re stressing yourself out, this is supposed to be fun!
It’s difficult to keep asking for help, but it’s even harder to stay silent.

Hello please donate to Mo'men Gherbawi if you can.
Campaign Information:
Mo'men Gherbawi is a palestinian man from Gaza.
He dreamed of a bright future after high school, but instead of celebrating his success, he found himself running from bombs and destruction, just trying to survive.
His Life Changed in an Instant!
Their home was destroyed in the bombing, leaving them with nowhere to return to.
His older brother lost his job after the occupation wiped out the area where he worked.
His school and his sister’s university turned into shelters for displaced families, leaving no classrooms for students.
They spent everything they had just to escape and make it to Egypt after six months of horror.
How Did They Survive?
They fled multiple times under bombs and gunfire, carrying what little they had in plastic bags, running through rubble and smoke, never knowing if they'd survive.
Their last stop was Rafah, which is now under siege, where they faced hunger, illness, and fear until they finally made it out.
His father suffers from severe back problems, making him unable to work, and his medical treatment is extremely expensive.
Despite Everything, Mo'men Still Has a Dream!
He wants to go to university and build a future, to help his family get back on their feet. But today, they have no home, no income, and no way to start over.
Why They Need Your Help:
"I’m managing this fundraiser on behalf of my family. Since GoFundMe doesn’t support the country we currently reside in, the donations are being received through a trusted family friend in the UK, Hassan Aloul. " - Campaign Organiser
The organsier is helping the family by withdrawing the funds into their bank account and coordinating them directly to distribute the funds for urgent needs such as rent, medical treatment, and education expenses.
All donations will be used to:
Rent a home in Egypt
Cover basic living expenses like food, clothing, and medicine
Pay for Mo'mens father’s urgent medical treatment
Support his university education so he can build a better future
They are committed to using every donation responsibly and transparently.
You Can Be the Reason Their Life Changes!
Every pound (£) can be a new beginning for us – helping with rent, father’s treatment, and mo'mens education.
"Don’t leave us alone—donate or share my story. Even the smallest contribution can make a huge difference. Thank you to everyone who helps. You are my hope for a better tomorrow!" - Mo'men Gherbawi
Lost Everything, but I Haven’t Lost Hope! I am Mo’men Gherbawi,… Momen gherbawi needs your support for Mo’men Lost Everything in Gaza—H
A few days ago I went to see "Obsession" and I have some opinions.
First of all, I'm not a huge horror nerd. I personally dislike horror films because they trigger my anxieties but I couldn't refuse my friend's invitation so I went to see this. So keep it in mind that these are opinions of someone who is not very knowledged on the horror genre in cinema.
I neither loved or hated this film though I LOVED the actors' performances, especially the amazing Inde Navarette. The amount of talent she possesses amazes me. I also enjoyed the fact that all the actors were lesser known actors. I really enjoy and support seeing new faces in cinema while we are at a time where if you don't have enough followers you can't be counted as an artist.
Other than the talented performances of all of the actors, I was in shock throughout the movie. I was disgusted, I was horrified and sometimes I just looked away because I couldn't bring myself to watch. I remember feeling like my stomach was going to come out of my mouth. This however isn't a bad thing because that's exactly what they wanted to achieve.
The obsession of Nikki was shown to the audience with more phyical tools. It was visibly displayed with bodily fluids, deranged eating habits etc. However I feel like this approach was taken in a way that was a bit cliché. I remember seeing the same things in a deranged manga (that I wasn't warned about how deranged it was) that an ex friend sent me and it seems like these sort of concepts are highly used within the genre. Though I must admit that (and this sentence is a little bit of a mild spoilers so if you don't want to read it skip to the next paragraph) the scenes where Nikki was watching Bear while he was sleeping scared the living shit out of me and those were again masterfully crafted.
While we are talking about the technical aspects of the film I must talk about the jumpscares and my dislike for them. It's not unusual for horror films to employ elements of suddenness but at some point, it becomes predictable and frankly boring. The amount of jumpscares this film had made me very irritated while I was watching. It was not boring me out because of the well-mainted tension but I was very tired of seeing them. This is the other huge reason why I'm so neutral towards this film.
So as you may see, the film covered the idea that it should scare the audience very well. But what didn't I like about the ideas it tried to convey?
I didn't like the fact that at some points Bear was shown to be sympathized with and as the victim. Bear was indeed not aware what was going on at the first times with his relationship with Nikki but then he continued and continued and continued what he was doing even after Nikki started to go astray and he clearly realised something was wrong. This again maybe make the audience say "Oh but he is in denial" and yes I agree, at some points after he realized, he denied that this could be a possibility but even after he fully compeletly realized what he had done he still continued. This point made me very uncomfortable. Though then again, this might also be a concious choice for showing how society basically ignores how the victim women is going through and sympathizes with the abusers or how some men want obsession without realizing what it might bring. But in all the options, we can clearly see Nikki's bodily autonomy is being forcibly taken away by Bear and how the movie makes us symphatize with him.
While reading through people's comments on this movie unfortunately I encountered so many sexist comments but there were also good ones who analyzed the movie very nicely too. Like for example (spoiler) one person talked about the scene where Nikki starts to recite a very incestious poem and how this could symbolize that the actual Nikki saw Bear as a brother figure. This was a really good analysis and I wanted to share their ideas with you guys too. I wish I remembered the user's nickname but alas...
Long story short, these are my ideas and basically an overall review of this film. If you agree/disagree please don't hesitate to mention in the comments but please remember to be respectful. I'm all for debates as long as we're both respectful. Have a nice day and see ya!

Being queer is not something I find joy in. It's something that I wish to find joy in. Right now it's discomfortable, it's dangerous, it's scary and I'm so terrified. But one day, maybe one day I'll be in a place where it will give me an immense joy and I cannot wait for that day.
