Aume’s scars, top to bottom:

Collarbone: From an unfortunate (read: two week long) brush with a desperate and starving vampire coven.

Shoulder: Clipped by an errant fireball from a too-eager student in High Rock.

Chest: Daedric reads “TELSANVISH” or “egg of time” in Dunmeris. A time-slowing Alteration spell that was painted onto the skin, but was accidentally burned into his body when the spell partially backfired. The extensive burns surrounding the spell comes from where skin and flesh was literally rapid-decomposing into ash. Was only stopped through the intervention of a Telvanni wizard who managed to correctly fix the spell at the expense of a massive and permanent scar.

Arm: Scratches from an aggressive nix-hound while traveling in Morrowind.

Fingers: Result of severe frostbite that stemmed from paradoxical undressing induced by hypothermia.

Thigh: Healed-over gash that resulted from falling from a ship caught in a destructive storm.

Calves: Scratches from traveling through prickly underbrush in the reach, among other things.

Ankles: Faint impressions from iron cuffs worn during the aforementioned vampire incident.

She returned to the table and placed both ingredients in with the required amounts… then put a small dab of honey on her finger and poked Guillaume’s cheek with it.

Beaming like a child who knew they couldn’t get in trouble for their actions, she said, “Maybe now you can flatter the inn keeper with your sweetness instead of having to put a spell on them, hm?”

“I think I’m plenty sweet, can’t you see?” he answered, grinning as he swiped the dab of honey off with a thumb. “But I suppose there’s nothing wrong with being even sweeter. No one shall resist me now.”

The mixture was a bit too spicy, so he reached to the side to sprinkle in some more sugar. As the last few grains wafted into the bowl, Guillaume held a hand in front of his mouth and blew gently, sending a small puff into Navalli’s face.

“And I think you could do with some sweetness in your life, too.”

“You lost, stranger?”

Guillaume turned from where he was perusing a pile of rusted tools. The Reachman standing before him was short but broad, sturdy and weathered from decades of smelting silver. His eyes, wreathed by faded grey swirls cascading down his cheeks, were distrustful. “The tavern ain’t here, Breton. It’s down the street t’ your left.” “Actually,” Guillaume said, then cleared his throat, “I believe I’m in the right place. I’m looking for Lochlann?”

A pause. The other man continued to stare. “He expectin’ you?” “We’ve exchanged word about this beforehand.” The Reachman’s lips pinched thin and bloodless, but he nodded. “He ain’t busy right now. I’ll lead you t’ him.”

Lochlann was a younger man than Guillaume had expected, with wary hazel eyes and a tuft of snowberry-blond hair that spoke of distant Nord heritage. He was bent over his tools when the two men entered, jumping at the sound of their approaching footsteps.

“You’ve come.” His matter-of-fact tone, on the other hand, betrayed no surprise. “Thank y’, Dhalen, I’ll take it from here.”

Dhalen nodded and stepped out, and Guillaume was left alone. He took a moment to peruse Lochlann’s small but immaculate workspace, noting the carefully rendered sketches pasted on the walls and the worktable scattered with half-ground pigments packed into small clay cups. In the middle of the room was a narrow cot draped in patterned Reach cloth, arranged next to a small table containing a stoppered glass vase of torchbugs and a tray of silver needles.

“It’s nice,” he remarked, and meant it. “Have you been doing this for long?” “Five years.” Lochlann shrugged his shoulders as he polished a needle. “Took over from my ma when she passed. She taught me everything I know.”

“Do you enjoy it?” “It pays,” the young man replied, and left it at that. “This still the design y’wanted?”

“Yes.”

“Alright. Over here.”
