vacaria - rs

Alejo Carpentier: The Kingdom Of This World (1948), a pioneering piece of magical realism literature, telling the story of Santo Domingo in the late 18th and early 19th century from the viewpoint of an obscure slave. Carpentier, a Cuban writer and musicologist of Franco-Russian descent, was inspired in part by a visit to Haiti where he took part in a voodoo ceremony and visited the ruins of the Citadel of La Ferrière.
