Chae Jinseok was not nervous. He really wasn’t and his parents could stop coddling him while pushing him to embark the train. It was not like he didn’t read his mother old text books from her time at Hogwarts! Okay that might be a small lie, he tried to read them, but all the books she still had were too advanced for someone who was going to his first year, so it was more like he skimmed it until he had his own and then it was time to pack his bags because he and his dad procrastinated and now here he is, having just passed his eyes by a few here and there pages of his first year spell and potion books and steps away from the Hogwarts express. Okay maybe he lied, he is nervous. It’s his first year at Hogwarts and because of his muggle dad job he usually never stood in one place enough to make friends, or find out if the friends he did end up making were maybe actual magical too, if they were half bloods like him that lived more on the muggle part of the world because that’s where his- maybe theirs - parents worked better with, so he didn’t know anyone around, be it older students he could see walking so confidently up the train, or the obviously first years like him that were being just as smothered by their parents as he was. He knew he was shy, that was why the list of friends he once made around the country and some out took so long for him to befriend, and why he probably didn’t keep contact with any because he was too shy to exchange numbers with them like muggles do, or get their address to exchange letters via owl if he ended up finding out that the kid was magical. He couldn’t show to his parents that he was nervous though. He was a big kid now, eleven years old of pure magic like his mother said on his birthday, he need to show that to his mom and dad that he’s okay and he’ll do fine on Hogwarts on his own until the holidays. Thinking like that Jinseok nodded mentally and puffed his chest, finally properly hugging his parents, mumbling a small “It’s fine, I love you guys- I can go now” to them before pulling back, trying to smile brightly up at them like any kid could while also trying to pick up his trunk to get in the train. After a few more words exchanged, good lucks and see yous on christmas he was finally on the train, trunk following behind him as he looked for a empty wagon, or at least one that wasn’t as full with people that already seemed to know each other for ages. Finally finding one that had just two people in it talking, both not seeming like old students he gathered all the gryffindor that comes from his mothers blood and courage that comes with it and knocks on the door, quickly losing the courage when they turn to him and asking quietly if he could join them in, quickly walking inside when receiving a positive answer, partially happy with himself with not ending on a wagon alone till the end of the trip. At first he was silent, the taller student in the wagon helping him put his trunk up safelly, only talking when they tried to pull him in their conversation, but as time passed he quickly started to join more free willingly, especially after all three of them waved goodbye at their parents and the train started its path to their school. In the trip he learned the tallest one in the waggon with him was a - obviously - older student, a Gryffindor 3rd year, while the other was a family friend to him also just joining Hogwarts as 1st year, though if Jinseok was to be honest, he looked like a short second or third year. Since they had a older student to talk, one that was on a house he hoped to be to follow his mom’s footsteps, Jinseok fought his shyness to try and ask questions of how the school is - he obviously also asked his mother it as well, but getting answers from a student close to his age is something cooler and more recent. And until they arrived to the school and went their separated ways the trip was like that, with a few visits here and there from the third year friends that cheered up the waggon and that made him more excited to arrive and get to know where he would be placed at, and questions and jokes shared between the three. And once at Hogwarts, hat in head as it screamed “Hufflepuff” to indicate his house, after so many shared information, Chae Jinseok knew that he would have some really great 7 years in front of him, hopefully with lots of friends and stories to tell his parents by letters or himself when he’s at home, and hopefully with those two friends he made in the train too.
