So, months back Comic Fury has chosen to introduce an actual working transcript function option which would greatly increase readability of comics on comic fury for readers with low vision, are blind, and those with dyslexia.
I am not entirely familiar with accessibiltiy so I wish to throw in the following question:
How would you like me to implement said transscripts?
I'm currently looking at two options. One being that every panel gets described seperately along with dialogue being read out loud by what character.
Example of what Page 1 would be transcripted as:
First panel:
An overview of a factory, built between the Canyons. It's in bad shape, boarded with metal plates, indicating that it's abandoned. A large black pokéball billboard crests the building. Several pipes are installed going in and out of the building, into canyons or even run along the walls of the canyon. The sands in front of the building are littered with metal barrels and construction junk. The windows of the building are tinted black.
Second panel:
A dirty, empty hall with branching paths. Along the walls are pipes installed and an electric box. On the ceilingis flurescent lighting attached. The walls and ceilings are a pale green, with dirt and rust stains smudged on it. The floors a dirty orange.
Third panel:
A close up of a table, laid out on it are two pokéballs, devices meant for capturing and containing pokémon, the shiny tops of the balls red, the bottoms white, a black edge divides the two colors from each other. A button is visible on one of the pokéballs, rimmed with the same black edge.
Beneath the pokéballs is a blueprint laid out. on it is a picture of a shoulderpad, and under that an image of a human wearing the shoulder pad.
The first person speaks "It's about damn time you came around."
A second person replies: "I rode here as fast as I could, once I received your e-mail."
Fourth panel:
A bird's eye view of an office. Colored the same way as the halls. In the room is a pale red couch, directly across a desk where Pokéballs and the blueprint are laid out, to the side are a desk lamp and a computer. A big muscular man is sitting at the desk in a yellow chair his back is turned. His upperarms resting on the desk. The man wears a red sleeveless vest, black pants, black boots. From the back of his bald head his long angular mustache can be seen, and his eyebrows so long they curl up far above his head. Behind the man is a board that got orange spraypaint all over it, like it's an artpiece.
A young woman is leaning against the wall, with her arms crossed, looking at the big muscular man. One of her feet resting against the wall. She has long blonde hair reaching all the way down to her butt. Bangs covering the left side of her face. She wears a black trenchcoat. The right sleeve of the arm is missing. The left sleeve has a hole in the shoulder, leaving it bare. Underneath the open trenchcoat is a purple tank top, and she wears dark blue jeans with black knee-high boots.
The woman speaks: "Complaints about slow transport aside, what's the mission this time?"
The man replies: "It's a test. One that I rather don't like to be done by the idiots around here."
The alternative is that the comic page gets narrated as if its a written fiction, with no indicated separation between each comic panel
Deep in the Wastelands of Orre, far from prying eyes between de sandstone walls of Eclo Canyon is an inconspicious building located. The grey metal structure built up against the canyons out of plain sight. Its worn down state and the scattered remains of garbage give the impression the building has long since been abandoned. Not an unusual sight in the region. It’s one of the many forgotten places.
Within its halls however, the lamps still light the otherwise dark interior. Implicating that someone still dwells in this otherwise empty building.
In one of the rooms over a desk are strewn various objects. A pair of pokéballs are placed upon the desk. A blue print is laid out. It contains imformation on some sort of shoulder pad that by design is supposed to be worn by a person.
“It’s about damn time you came around.”
“I rode here as fast as I could once I’ve received your e-mail.”
In the small office a blonde woman leans casually up against the bolted metal wall of the office with her arms crossed. She has long hair that reaches all the way down to her knees, and bangs that cover the left side of her face. On top of her head rests a pair of goggles. She wears a long black trenchcoat from which one of the sleeves is missing, and the other sleeve has a hole in it that leaves her shoulder exposed. Beneath the coat she wears a simple purple tank top, tight blue jeans and knee-high black boots.
“Complaints about slow transport aside. What’s the mission this time.”
She queried towards the large muscular man that was sitting in a yellow office chair at the desk with his arms resting on said desk. His eyebrows have grown long and curved into crescent shapes just like his angular mustache sticking out in long strands. It’s like the facial hair attempts to compensate for the lack of actual hair on his head. He wears black headphones, an open red short jacket, purple fingerless gloves, black baggy pants and tall black boots. Over his arms and exposed bare torso are numerous scars visible.
“It’s a test. One that I rather don’t like to be done by the idiots around here.”
I'd like to hear some thoughts on this or maybe even a possible other alternative format for transcript texts if that's better. Preferably from folks with impairments that can affect their ability to read of any kind. If any of you could disclose what visual impairments you have with your feedback that would be really insightful. But only do so if you're comfortable sharing it. Private messaging is always open if you prefer that over publicly sharing information.
