Polihale Beach, on the western shore of Kaua'i, has mythical roots. It is here that Hawaiian spirits are said to travel to in search of Po (the Hawaiian afterworld). Homes built in the vicinity of Polihale were built with no east-facing doors, so no spirits would get trapped within.
