Hi, everyone! I’m gonna try to keep this short and sweet. Life has been intense the past few months, and it’s kept me from truly being part of the rp how I would want. With the way things are now, I can’t dedicate to the group the attention it deserves and that I would want to give it. Right now I am unable to start up cool plots, develop my character how I would like and generally write with all you amazing people. I know I can be a way better member, but I can’t do it at the moment. Instead of sticking around with no real drive or purpose I decided to leave the group, so that I can focus on my life, get things in order and come back full force once I’ve done that.

The group is amazing, you are all awesome and I am really sad to leave, but you deserve the best, so I’m seeing it as like me going off-screen for a while, do one of those cool training montages that were so popular in the ‘80s and then coming back to the group ready to write and plot ALL THE THINGS. So yeah, it’s not farewell, it’s just “See you later”. Also you all have my discord so you know, if you ever want to chat, send pictures of broken spaghetti or whatever you know how to reach me!

Uh. Not really. A lot happened while you were gone and the nature of some of it isn’t something that I can really widely discuss, but it’s been hard. I appreciate the offer though. Things actually seem to be going better for once, it’s just taking me a bit to get back to normal. 

I did have a favour to ask though? Someone I know thinks they’re missing a lot of time in terms of memories, I don’t know anything about mental magic and I don’t want to go around fiddling with someone’s head without knowing what I’m doing. Would you be okay to talk to him? I know that’s more your area of expertise…

[pm] A believer in “Anything happens for a reason”. Refreshing. I’m more in the “we asked for something and had to pay a price, and this is it” camp, but only time will tell. You and Rio, huh? Good for you!

It’s not really the Necronomicon. That one’s fake. But I do have some interesting tomes just laying around, I could lend you some, if you convince Rio to let me take another look at his collection. Just don’t attempt anything from them without supervision, and be ready to deal with some upsetting images.

They messaged me. I’ll be honest: I’m sort of playing it safe right now, not drawing too much attention to myself and all that. But if they’re your friend, and you vouch for them... I can try to help, yes. I’m not a fan of mental magic, but I do know a lot about it. And I know that letting some amateur mess around in people’s heads is a recipe for disaster. So, if anyone’s going to play around with mental magic, I’d rather it be me. Someone else might get it wrong.

Well, hello there. I probably shouldn’t just trust a complete stranger like this, you could be a bounty hunter,  or-- but it’s Winsto know a bit.

But I have to say, I’m not too comfortable discussing it online. People tracking our convos, checking our history etc., I’ve seen a documentary the other day about that, I even learned to clear my cookies because now I don’t trust the internet. I’m willing to talk, and if you’re truly a friend of Winston I’m even willing to help, but... Not like this.

Come at my store, where I have wards and components and demons watching my ba. If you’re truly who you say you are Winston will tell you where it is.

[pm] I’m still looking for a way to eventually remove that. Even just the eyelid is kind of a buzzkiller, and now that my powers are back and stable I’m definitely planning on getting on grindr again, so... I’ll keep you posted if I find a solution. Don’t hold your breath for it, but still.

She’s been around a while, seen some things. And I mean... She’s my roommate. Other people keep copies of Vogue in the bathroom, I keep the Necronomicon there. And Vogue, but that’s just because I never cancelled the subscription I got to upset my dad, so...

[pm] Hey yourself. I'm sorry for disappearing, The ritual at the beach basically drained me, and a caster with no magic is as defenseless as a little kitten. Normally not too big a problem, plenty of people go on without magic, but with the sort of friends and enemies I've made in the past... Let's just say laying low was the wisest option, and not being as tech-savvy as you I figured going off the grid would keep both me and Bertrand safe (He says hi).

But I've had some time to recover, and I'm fine. Sort of. Still have the weird eyelid in my hand, but no terrible visions, so I think I can live with that. Honestly said roommate's been the biggest concern the past weeks. She's an all-powerful demon, does she really need to wreck my toaster just because "it takes too long"?? I’m sure you can understand how she’d be a handful.

It’s not that, it’s just frustrating. The answer is potentially quite literally at our fingertips, I just need to learn nine demonic languages along the way to understand it. Retrospectively this would make a great sitcom if it weren’t so life and death. 

Damn dude, that’s deep as shit. Maybe I should’ve taken that philosophy elective after all, either way wasn’t Nietzsche also pretty unwell towards the end of his life? I don’t think it really matters ultimately. I did wonder if there was a way to just … remove the eye. What happens if we just cut it out?

[pm] If it makes you feel better, many demonic languages share some linguistic roots. So you might only need to learn two or three to get the gist of what they’re saying.

I never studied philosophy either, and I had to google how to spell his name, but it’s an impressive line, was thinking about using it to pick up pretentious guys... Think it might work? As for removing the eye... I’ll keep you poste It’s probably unwise. It’s magically bound to us, I doubt we can just cut it out without someonething else taking our place. But like I said, I’m looking into a possible solution.

I agree. He was very brave about it. Ultimately it’s either going to disappear after you or it’s going to cycle back to me. Which I’m not looking forward to but at least it’s only one of three, could be worse. But yeah, the collection is something. I’ve been looking in there too, not as much easily accessible stuff as I would like, it’s taking longer then usual. The concepts are complicated to say the least. Sometimes I feel like my brain is melting but that might just be the grief.

Don’t worry about it, I get it. I’ll make it work. I don’t really have any other choice. I think with me it just got too much occasionally. I tried to see more in the visions just out of curiosity and it was pretty overwhelming. I’m sure you’ll get to experience all of that.

[pm] I may have an idea on how to stop the cycle. It’s a bit of a stretch, and kind of illegal but it’s worth a try. I’ll keep you posted.

Don’t feel bad, it takes years to familiarize yourself with those sort of books. I’ve literally grown up surrounded by them and even I couldn’t read half of my tomes without Rio’s help.

I believe it was Nietzsche who said “He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And if you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you.” I’m no philosopher, but I think what he meant was... Don’t gaze into the abyss, because that’s dangerous and it’s how demons get you. Alright, Nietzsche probably wasn’t saying that, but still... Obsession is dangerous. We need to stay focused, but we can’t shoulder everything. Take a break, remind yourself of what you’re trying to protect. Me, I’ve actually tried to shield my mind from the visions. Failed spectacularly, but I tried. It’s not like they’ve been any help anyway.

Perhaps, Rio suggested that. I think we’d be lucky for that to happen and we’ve had bad luck so far so we are due some good luck. I’ll try and think of other options in case that happened. 

Look, believe me when I say I get how important this is. It’s not like Bea died or anything this is something that I can force to happen, just trust me to make it work. I get how important this is.

At the very least it left Rio. He seemed really freaked out by it. Granted, that’s the sensible reaction to having a demonic eye stuck to your hand, just... I’m glad he doesn’t have to deal with this for the moment. He might be able to find something in his books now that he’s not distracted by the visions, judging by what little I saw his collection must be incredible.

Forgive me, you obviously know her better than me and you’re fully aware of the current situation. The eye is just making me a little cranky, that’s all. Nell said it changed your speech patterns, it might be some sort of side effect. Either way... I trust your judgement, Winston.

Uh, yeah, I’m with Nell a lot at the moment, but she’s kind of otherwise preoccupied, something’s happened, I can’t go into it but I’ll see if there’s a good time to talk to her about it.

I appreciate the vote of confidence. I’ll have to admit, part of me is still hoping the eye will just vanish after taking its turn with me.

Something’s happened? You mean something bigger than a potential apocalypse? Because that’s what we might have on our hands, I’d rate that pretty high on our list of priorities.

I did use magic, there wasn’t any interference that I was aware of but I kept my use to a minimal anyway, just in case. With mental magic specifically I don’t know if I would want to risk it considering what happened last time.

[pm] Have you heard anything about the cultists? Still think that’s our best bet, they must know something. Then again, they’re dumb enough to want to worship and summon that place, they might be dumb enough to also perform random rituals without knowing what they’re for.

I might be more attuned to the eye’s interference than you. I was the main caster of the spell, after all, and my specialization is prime hunting ground for demonic forces. Never heard of demons being drawn to technology, no matter how disturbing some of the stuff online is.

Have you heard from Nell? She had some great insights into the whole thing.

[pm] You get used to it pretty quickly, but if there’s anything I can do to make it easier let me know. It’s disconcerting to say the least. Dare I ask if there’s any chance of a magical remedy to this? My research has yet to uncover anything.

[pm] There probably is. In my experience there’s always a magical solution to any problem, as long as you’re willing to pay the cost. And between you and me? I don’t like our odds. We tried a spell I literally learned when I was 7 and we got stuck with this, imagine what would happen if we tried something bigger.

Did you use your magic while you had it? I want to try, but I feel... Disconnected from my powers. Or like the eye is just waiting to tap into it once more. Might be just me being paranoid, but considering what my spells usually deal with I’d rather not risk it.

[pm] I underestimated how much I actually use my palm. I keep accidentally poking it, and it doesn’t like it one bit. The visions are worse than I remembered, too, it’s hard to keep my trademark positive attitude in this situation.

But of course you know all this already, you went through it first. Still wondering why it’s jumping from one of us to the next. It’s like the eye is Goldilocks and we’re the three bears’ beds.

No. It’s not that Nell isn’t great. It’s just not like that. She’s my best friend and has been my best friend since we were kids and she has always been very protective. But this isn’t up to her, I don’t blame you and i realise the risk. Surely that’s my choice? I’ll talk to her and tell her to back off if you want me to, sorry if she was … trouble.

[pm] I know many people who could help. Not sure they would, though, and they might make things worse. But I’ll do what I can to make sure people know.

Did you truly realize the risk, though? You only knew what I told you, and you had no reason to doubt my skills. I’m not saying we could have known this would happen. Even with weeks of preparations I wouldn’t have done things differently, but... We were reckless, me more so than you two. And that’s all I’m gonna say on the matter; you know what they say about spilled milk, no use dwelling on it. As for Nell... I’m a big boy, I’ll just put on my big boy pants and deal with it. I can’t say I don’t understand where she’s coming from: if anyone put Bertrand in danger I would do way worse than give them a stern lecture.
