“Ah, but at least you’re still here— I take it as a good sign. Did you move here from a big city?”
“Before this, it was San Diego, before San Diego, it was New York, and before both of those, I grew up in London. Relatively large cities.”

“You could definitely say that. Um, mainly a need for a change of pace. Los Angeles is great, but…busy. What about you, are you a Southport native?”
“That I can understand. No, I’ve only been here for seven years. I moved for very similar reasons to yours.”
Me? High expectations? Pff, never. Totally, never. Of whom, if I may ask?
It was merely a warning. My brothers dreadful cat.
“We all have our preferred fixes,” she agreed, shrugging absentmindedly as she draped her jacket carelessly over her arm. “Not that weird,” she noted. “I’ve been gone for a long time— only just returned this year. I’m Quinn.”
“That is true,” he said with a nod in agreement. “I would suppose that’s grounds for a welcoming home? Ward. Pleasure to meet you.” He glanced around for a moment before he looked back at her. “Would your jacket being here mean you were saving this seat?”
“I just moved here from Los Angeles. Let’s hope you’re thinking wishfully today then.”
“That’s a long way, isn’t it? What provoked this? Not really, but we can still hope.”
Tempting, I gotta admit; depends on how interesting what is that you don’t tell me. Yeah, yeah, whatever. It is? Yes!
You may have your expectations set a little too high if I extend this for too long. It is, an important birthday.
Seventeen?
Something I regret. I waited too long before I made a decision that effected those I care and cared about poorly.
22?
Five things I want to change. My profession choice, having done so well in school that I caught attention, circumstances surrounding my parents’ death, ever purchasing a cat, and having a secret that pushes others away.

A bit of a spoiler warning. I mean it’s vague, but I’m sure you can figure it out. It’s about Kingsman. Other than that I think everything’s fine.
“Well look at you Mr. Sneaky Man. How many times have you given people an amazingly persuasive speech where you promised them wonders such as fame and money? Is that something you do every day?”
“I’ve lost count. But no, it would depend on if there’s someone with an actual talent. It would take something to travel to see them.”
Maybe if you’d tell me, I’d tell you. Maybe. Mhm, is it someone’s birthday?
Or we could both share in our obliviousness? It could be, but we’ve already been over this. Maybe if it satisfies you, it is a birthday.
“Are they really naive enough to believe that they could be the next Brad Pitt?”
“Some are. And it’s my job to make sure they are naive enough for that sometimes.”
Can’t you see I’m trying to avoid answering you? Yeah, you do. Pretty well known fact, actually.
Alright, that’s fair since I do avoid answering you. Not in ways I should, that’s clear. Since it does come back every June.
- Yeah, you’re right. I’m sorry, still kinda hungover and annoyed with everything. Wow, that much? Is it all work or something else?
It’s alright, I wasn’t friendly to start this off. What was cause for all the drinking? It’s a bit of both, work and something else, but it doesn’t matter. I’ll be over it. I always move on.
A mystery to the town? I’m interested. You don’t look like the laundering money type. Maybe you’re secretly an heir to a wealthy fortune. I could see that. It would suit you better.
I am the heir to a rather large fortune, but I’ve never made it a secret. This town won’t accept that as the story. They seem to believe there’s something more.
