serious question:

why can't every device open the same photo?

I took the picture.

My phone saved it.

My computer should understand it.

Right?

Apparently not.

I recently moved a bunch of pictures from my iPhone to my laptop.

Some opened immediately.

Some didn't.

Some acted like they had never seen an image before.

After looking into it, I found out many iPhone photos are saved as HEIC files.

The format is actually pretty smart because it saves space while keeping quality.

But compatibility can be annoying.

I ended up using a simple HEIC file converter to make some files easier to manage.

Technology always feels like a trade.

Better storage.

Better quality.

But sometimes more confusion.

Sometimes technology makes simple things complicated.

Example:

I want to look at a photo.

That's it.

Just a photo.

But somehow the process becomes:

What format is it?

What device created it?

What software opens it?

Why can't this app read it?

Why does another app need an update?

I miss when a picture was just a picture.

Don't get me wrong.

I love having thousands of high-quality photos on my phone.

But managing them is a different story.

I recently cleaned up my photo folders and had to convert some HEIC images into a format that was easier to save.

This little convert HEIC to PDF tool helped me organize everything.

Small problem.

Simple solution.

Technology is amazing.

It just occasionally needs instructions written for humans.

My Mac refused to open my photos today.

Which is funny because…

the photos came from my iPhone.

Same company.

Same ecosystem.

Same person taking the pictures.

And somehow my computer was like:

"no idea what this file is."

After some searching, I realized they were HEIC files.

I knew iPhones used them, but I never really thought about what happened after taking the photo.

Most of the time everything works perfectly.

Until you need to share files, upload them somewhere, or open them on another device.

I had a folder of old pictures that I wanted to organize, so I converted some of them using this HEIC to PDF online converter.

Problem solved.

Honestly, I don't mind new technology.

I just wish my devices would stop acting like strangers sometimes.

Anyway.

Today I learned that even my own photos need a little help introducing themselves.

Random pictures of food.

Photos I don't even remember taking.

Somehow those random pictures are my favorites now.

I found some old HEIC photos that I couldn't open on my laptop, so I converted them here:
