MUSICALS: A List of Songs (I don’t how to title this help)
Containing: Hamilton, Heathers, Be More Chill, Dear Evan Hansen, Newsies, Wicked and Mean Girls.
New musicals on the list: Legally Bl0nde and In The Heights!
!!! This post contains spoilers from all the musicals above !!!
The teen angst song:
Heathers: Beautiful
Be More Chill: More Than Survive
Dear Evan Hansen: Waving through a Window
Hamilton: idk, does Stay Alive Reprise counts? It’s angst, and it’s caused by a teen.
Newsies: Santa Fe. Even if Jack isn’t like “Oh I hate my life and I’m useless”, his best friend just got caughted by Snider and now he is on that heinous Refuge, and also a lot of boys got hurted that day, and he thinks that is all because of him, and now he “Just want to close his eyes and go!” I guess this song fits her.
Wicked: The Wizard and I. Elphaba doesn’t say clearly that she is unhappy, she sings about how much she wants to be respected and wants to change her own skin tone ‘cause everyone always tell her that being green is ugly. And she is so happy when she sees the celebration about her… Oh my gosh I felt so sorry for her.
Mean Girls: What’s wrong with me?. Normally the angsty songs on teen musicals are the first or second ones, but I don’t think It Roars is teen angst, cuz Cady is still persistent and thinking she will fit in. Although, on What’s Wrong With Me, Gretchen show us all her feelings and anxieties, that are caused by Regina, and how this affects her and how she thinks that anytime she could just shatter. Fearless Reprise (the one she sings when everything is breaking down, before she tells the principal that she wrote that stuff about her teacher) would be the one, but it’s not on the Cast Recording, so I don’t think they consider it as a “song” (idk anything aaa)
Legally Blonde: I will say “Legally Blonde”. After all Elle went through to prove her intelligence, imagine just figuring out that she was given the spot on the internship cuz Callaham wanted to hit on her. Elle sang she was “fine” with going back to be the “futile” girl she was. And the “Some girls were just meant to smile”, man… That broke some hearts.
In The Heights: The nice part of ITH is that we get not only teen angst, but we get adult angst as well. For this category I’ll pick the Rosarios’ songs: Breathe and Inútil.
The Cutie, Happy or Funny song:
Be More Chill: I Love Play Rehearsal (Christine is the cutiest cinamonroll)
Dear Evan Hansen: Sincerely, Me (actually, the only song in the whole musical that is a little bit happy)
Hamilton: Helpless (Eliza is the cutiest cinnamonroll from the 18’s Century) and Dear Theodosia
Heathers: There’s any happy song in this thing? If does, I say Seventeen or Shine a Light (THE FIRST VERSION PLEASE)
Newsies: So just WATCH WHAT HAPPENS! I loved this song so much, the melody is so cute, the lyrics are great, it’s just perfect! And also, Catherine is me when I’m writing, so…
Wicked: Popular, you’re gonna be Po-pu-lar! This song doesn’t have the best message, but Glinda’s performance is just amazing! (Mainly, Fabi Bang’s performance)
Mean Girls: Stupid with Love (Reprise and the first one) are cute (tho is a little bit angsty); Sexy is funny, and Stop has a happy melody, but I’ll just pick Fearless that bonds all of the elements
Legally Blonde: One of the things I love about Legally Blonde is that it’s a classic happy musical, like Grease and Hairspray. So, we have a LOT of dancing and cheerful songs, which makes so hard to choose just a few for this category. But I’ll choose There! Right There!, Bend and Snap and Take it Like a Man cuz this is such a cute song! (Btw, Elle and Emmett are a couple that should be WAY more appreciated. It’s like, on the Top 3 of greatest couples from 21th Century’s Broadway.)
In The Heights: No Me Diga, Benny’s Dispatch and Piragua. They’re extremely realistic songs that subtly show the struggles and the daily life of Washington Heights, but they’re also very happy and funny.
The I Can’t Stop Dancing This Song:
Heathers: HONEY WATCHU WAITING FOOOOR Candy Store
Hamilton: Angelica, Eliiiiza and Peggy The Schuyler Sisters and NON-STOP
Be More Chill: YOU GOTTA TAKE THE UPGRADE upgrade, I don’t know if you guys agree with me, but this song is so dancing! Anyway, if disagree, Voices In My Head or A Guy That I’d Kinda Be Into are perfect for this categorie too
Dear Evan Hansen: Sincerely, Me, again because of RE IN VEN TION
Newsies: WE’LL BE OUT THERE, CARRYING THE BANNER MAN TO MAN! HERE’S THE HEADLINE: NEWSIES ON THE MISSION, KILL THE COMPETITION, SELL THE NEXT EDITION, ALWAYS OUT THERE CARRYING THE BANNER THROUGH THE… Do I really need to say something else? Oh, and King of New York is also pretty good.
Wicked: What is this feeling? So sudden and new, I felt the moment I lay eyes on you; for just one reason: LOATHING, AND ADULTERED LOATHING, FOR HER FACE, HER VOICE, HER CLOTHING! The performance, the song itself, the lyrics, even that they talk about hate… Perrfect! (Geez why the most dancing musics are the ones with the “””worst””” lyrics? Ajsjajdjdk) Also, Defying Gravity WHAT A SONG
Mean Girls: SHE IS THE QUEEN OF BEASTS, AT THIS BEASTLY SCHOOL, GOTTA KEEP KEEP THINGS COOL WITH THE APEX PREADATOR, man, this song is so great! Buuuuut, it’s not my favorite for this cathegory. Fearless is also extremely dancing, Revenge Party either, Meet the Plastics has amazing notes, but I just love the melody on all the Someone Gets Hurt moments (tho my favorite is on Fearless)
Legally Blonde: 90% of the musical, actually. But for the most dancing I’ll pick Omigod You Guys, What you Want, So Much Better, Whipped into Shape and Legally Blonde (Remix). I could say Chip on My Shoulder too but that’s is a music mostly made for the story exposition than to dance.
In The Heights: it’s a Latin Musical, for Lord’s sake. All of the songs are for dancing! But the ones I really can’t stop dancing when I hear'em are Carnaval del Barrio, In The Heights, It Won’t Be Long Now, The Club and When the Sun Goes Down.
The Let’s Cry In Fetal Position and Appreciate The Beauty Of This Song: (various songs because it’s seems like these musicals are pretty sad)
Heathers: Lifeboat, Kindergarten Boyfriend, Damaged
Hamilton: The Laurens Interlude, Burn, Stay Alive Reprise, It’s Quiet Uptown, all the three last ones
Dear Evan Hansen: all of them, but the one that made my cry the most was For Forever, So Big/So Small and the Finale
Be More Chill: Michael In the Bathroom (it’s just one? It is, but you cry so much at this one that it seems it’s been like 3 sad songs)
Newsies: Letter from the Refuge. Disney and their amazing talent for doing sad songs
Wicked: I’m Not that Girl, No Good Deed, For Good, and Finale. No one mourns the Wicked, guys.
Mean Girls: idk, I didn’t really cried or felt like, very sad, in any particular songs. So, maybe, Someone Gets Hurt Reprise and the both What is Wrong With Me.
Legally Blonde: Well, Legally Blonde.
In the Heights: Paciencia y Fe, Hundreds of Stories, Atténcion, Alabanza, Everything I Know, basically all the ones about Abuela Claudia.
The You Fucked Up Everything Song:
Heathers: Yo Girl
Hamilton: Congratulations/The Reynolds Pamphlet
Dear Evan Hansen: Good For You
Be More Chill: no one really says like CONGRATULATIONS! to Jeremy, but himself realizes that he’s been a jerk when he talks to Christine at Voices In My Head, so it will be this one.
Newsies: There isn’t. The only person who fucks the things up is Pulitzer, but that is his goal, so…
Wicked: Defying Gravity maybe? I don’t really think so, again, the only one who really fucked the things up was The Wizard.
Mean Girls: More is Better and Someone Gets Hurt (Reprise)
Legally Blonde: Elle didn’t screw things up, who did it was Callaham and Warner. But let’s just pick Serious.
In the Heights: nobody’s fucked anything up, but Vanessa thought Usnavi a lesson on Champagne.
The We’re Gay But We’re Not Canon Song:
Heathers: I could say Blue cuz is the only one that Kurt and Ram sings the most, but nah… They’re assholes and here we are talking about lovely characters.
Hamilton: The Story of Tonight. LaUrEnS i LiKe yoU a LoT
Dear Evan Hansen: Sincerely, Me. Yes, you’re gay, guys.
Be More Chill: Two Player Gayme. “You know that you are my favorite person”
Newsies: Santa Fe (Prologue). Sorry but I shipped Crutchie and Jack soooo much!
Wicked: One Short Day, Defying Gravity and For Good. Watching this for the first time I really thought that Glinda and Elphaba would end up together.
Mean Girls: what? There is no gay shipp on this? I mean, I did shipped Gretchen and Karen, but they don’t sing anything just them and talk about their relationship. So, as compensation, here is a new category exclusively for Mean Girls!
Legally Blonde: Legally Blonde (Remix). Vivian is bisexual and you can’t change my mind.
In the Heights: don’t know, actually. I did shipped Graffiti Pete and Sonny, but I just heard the album, so yeah.
The Extremely Great Song:
Mean Girls: I Rather Be Me and World Burn (I just needed to put these songs on the list)
Heathers: The both Dead Girl Walking
Hamilton: The whole musical
Be More Chill: Upgrade
Dear Evan Hansen: For Forever and Finale
Newsies: Finale cuz reunites most of the songs
Wicked: oh geez this one is harsh No One Mourns The Wicked and Finale
Legally Blonde: Omigod you Guys, What you Want, Positive, Ireland, Chip on My Shoulder, So Much Better, Whipped into Shape, Take it Like a Man, Bend and Snap, the two Legally Blonde versions, Find My Way/Finale. Basically, the whole show.
In the Heights: In the Heights, 96,000 and When the Sun Goes Down. Lin does epic songs so well!
New Categories: Romantic and Villain Songs
The “Please Get Married Now” Songs:
Heathers: CAN’T WE BE SEVENTEEEEEEEN
Hamilton: Helpless
Be more Chill: A Guy that I’m Kinda be Into and Voices in My Head
Dear Evan Hansen: So it can be us, it can be us, and Only Us.
Newsies: I Never Planned on You and Something to Believe In. Well, I gotta admit that I find Jack and Catherine a very forced shipp (they knew each other for like, 3 days!), but their songs are AMAZING. God bless Alan Menken and the rest of the book writers.
Wicked: For Good and As Long as You’re Mine.
Legally Blonde: Chip on My Shoulder, Take it Like a Man and the Finale. When Elle proposed to Emmett I PASSED OUT
In the Heights: When you’re Home and Champagne
The Greatest “Mwahahahah I’m Evil” songs:
Heathers: HONEY WHAT YOU’RE WAITING FOOOOR- shut up, Heather! STEP INTO MY CANDY STOOOORE!
Hamilton: I had to put You’ll Be Back and its reprises on some place. Also, What did I Miss?, Farmer Refuted, Washington on Your Side, Adam’s Administration, We Know and The Reynolds Phamphlet.
Be More Chill: Be More Chill (Parts 1 and 2), Upgrade, The Pitiful Children and The Play.
Dear Evan Hansen: I think one of the best parts from this musical is that there is no villain and heroes, all of the characters play both ways during show.
Newsies: that’s the Bottom Liiiiiiiine!
Wicked: I’m a Sentimental Man, who always longed to be a father!
Legally Blonde: You’re nothing until, the thrill of the kill, becomes your only law! Blood in the Water it is.
In the Heights: another epic musical with no villains! Except maybe, for xenophobia and colonization.
That’s it! Thank you for the attention
