Lava Links offers nine holes of sagebrush, rocks, and "pukin' hot" heat. #k5evening
"The locals say Lava Links is fun, free and not to be taken seriously. Nels Borg once got a hole-in-one when his ball hit some rocks, bounced up high in the air and trickled through some sagebrush onto the sand that serves as a green.
'Talent,' is Borg's explanation. He's now the honorary golf pro there.
[...] There's one more point to be made about Lava Links. It may not look like much but it just might be the most environmentally friendly golf course in the world. Not one square inch of the course ever gets watered."

Image Description:
a) Looking westerly from south side of bridge, between 10:00 and 11:00am November 7, 1940 showing the twisting wave motion with opposite girders out of phase with each other. The angular transverse slope of deck is indicated by the angle between light posts and vertical cable hangers (About 45° was maximum reached).
b) Looking westerly from south side of bridge about 11:08am November 7, 1940, just as center section of roadway concrete slab hit the water surface. This was the initial complete failure of a deck section.
c) Looking westerly from south side of bridge, about 11:15am on November 7, 1940, showing 650 to 700 linear feet of deck falling. The broken hanger cables are seen in many positions.
d) Looking westerly from south side of bridge about 1:00pm November 7, 1940, showing extent of failure. The section of girder hanging in water swayed by tides later fell. The black spot at center of north cable shows where cable was frayed about feet longitudinally by repeated sliding of center casting. Over 600 cable wires were burned or broken at this point. First major slip here may have been cause of sudden change from Vertical 9 wave motion to rolling 3 wave twist that caused failure.

The Horse Heaven Hills, near Prosser Washington, get lots of fog. It’s been a week or more since the sun was last seen (assuming it’s still out there) and the ice from the fog is really building up.
