For real the girl took out 3 gems who had thousands of years of battle experience by being a funny noodle.

Honestly debating dropping Upsetti Spaghetti Spinel on this blog and going all-in on the Crystal Gem AU. Would take a revamp but honestly I have way more muse for that AU and... quite honestly it’s a good way to step out from the crowd of other Spinels around.

So after talking with The Crew™, I’ve decided to rework the Crystal Gem Spinel verse a little bit.

Spinel wasn’t present for the Rebellion. Initially, things go much the same way for her- left alone in the Garden as soon as Pink Diamond gets her colony.

She waits in the garden for a good 2,000 years, missing the Rebellion entirely. (It was assumed that Pink had given her to another gem).

Once the truth comes out, Pirl demands they go to fetch her.

She refuses to leave at first, waiting for Pink to come for her. Pirl has to convince her that Pink had abandoned her completely... while Rose was there to watch.

She doesn’t talk about Pink Diamond anymore.

She grows a bit envious of the others after watching them go on so many missions together. She eventually tags along on a few, even helping take down a few enemies by restraining them.

When Greg first shows up, she quickly befriends him, taking an interest in this weird human and his ‘string sound thingy.’

Spinel had some very complicated feelings about Steven at first- but Rose asked her to be his friend, and that’s what she was going to do.

As he grew up, she remained quite close with him, making sure he always had a friend.

She maintains a rather strained relationship with Jasper, but she does her best to make it amicable.

She’s still unaware of what the ‘monsters’ they fight truly are, considering them ‘bad guys’ to be caught.

Pirl can’t help but blink at the sudden burst of excitement once she’d opened the door; you’d think she’d get used to it by now, but apparently not.

Not that she minded, of course- a smile forming on her face as she looked down to see the rubber gem snap next to her… even if the immediate jump at the idea of a mission made her sigh and roll her eye.

“I was at work, Spinel, I’ve explained it to you already. That thing human’s do so they’re allowed to eat, remember?

Speaking of which…” There she goes, casually reaching into her gems and pulling out an entire box of pizza before walking past the cheerful gem to set it on a counter. “I brought dinner! Try to save some for Steven, this time.”

She pauses, thinking on Spinel’s question, and whether and not to throw any hope her way… before eventually caving in. “… but next time there is a mission, I promise I’ll take you with. Regardless of Jasper’s whining.”

Or her poofing, for that matter. She’ll make sure that doesn’t happen again.

The smaller gem gives a loud gasp as Pirl pulls out the food. Pizza! One of her favorites! She’s on it almost immediately, gulping down an entire slice in one cartoonish bite, pausing when Pirl mentions saving some. Probably best to slow down.

She’s working on a second slice, much more reasonably, when Pirl continues speaking-

-and then she’s letting out let another dramatic gasp, bouncing in place excitedly. She hadn’t been on a mission in ages! Not since that time she accidentally set that fire monster loose near a forest!

“Golly, really!?! I’m gonna do my best Pearlie! Promise!” She gives a mock salute, face splitting in a wide grin.
