Head Down || Lynn & Teddy || V7 W4 || Friday Afternoon
crowdedinmy-head:
Teddy only half heard her comment on apologizing, starting to put the books back where each one had been. Thankfully, he had already seen the shelf he knocked over and how it was organized. Granted, even though he wasn’t fully listening to her, he still responded with a mumbled, “I wasn’t paying attention. I’m not very good at paying attention.”
At least she had stepped back some. He was pretty big on personal space, a reason for his small little freakout but he was calming down pretty quickly. It was probably because of the quiet atmosphere that he was in. Could have been worse and he knew that.
Even once he had finished lining up the books, he still kept his eyes on them as if checking to make sure they were okay where they were. Even though he knew it was just as before, he was trying to avoid direct contact. “It’s not the place. I-It’s the people. I’m not good with people.” When she questioned him about being new, Teddy gave a small nod. “Yeah. I’m Thomas. No. Teddy. I go by Teddy.”
Lynn watched him and his movements with interest. He was different; there was something different about him. Her better instincts kicked in and she stayed where she was, patient. Did not feel the usual urges to pull someone’s attention to her when they were more or less talking. Clearly, he was mostly in his own head.
And everyone had their own quirks, didn’t they? Lynn nodded to him as she listened. “Okay.... Well it is cool to meet you, Teddy. Nice name. Mine is Lynn.” She held back on offering a handshake, like was habit sometimes. “I mean what I said before about the people here not biting. A lot of us can come across as too hyper at first, I will warn you,” she admitted.
“But we all have our own reasons for being here, don’t we? And most of them aren’t examples of exemplary control....” Lynn shrugged. Then quirked her lips again. “So. If you need any help with anything, don’t feel weird about asking, okay? I am new myself and, well, new kids should stick together.”

dear young lesbians, bi girls, queer girls, pan girls and otherwise women loving women: you are not inherently predatory by loving girls. you do not have the male gaze. it’s okay to look at a girl and want to hold her hand. it’s okay to day dream about girls. it’s okay. you’re okay.

crowdedinmy-head:
Teddy hadn’t even noticed the young woman, his attention focused solely on the books. Once something caught his interest, that usually held his focus until someone snapped him out of it. And in that moment, his attention was trying to find something to keep his nerves down. His eyes ran over each title, taking small steps to the left as he finished one area. Maybe looking at so many things at once in a new setting wasn’t the best idea but he could be determined.
Though, unlike how he usually was, he was easily snapped out of his own thoughts by the sudden presence beside him. If she hadn’t said anything, there was a good chance he would have bumped into her without even knowing. But being surprised never worked out well for Teddy.
He quickly turned to face her with a small jump, arm knocking a few of the books off the shelf before he quickly bent down to gather them. “Sorry, sorry, sorry,” he mumbled. “I’m not used to…things. People. This place.”
Lynn hadn’t meant to startle him; she had simply figured he was searching hard for a certain book. She bit her lip when all the books fell and bent to help. She grabbed the last one, and stood to put it back. “No, no, don’t apologize. I should have realized you would be startled.”
She took a step away from the shelf, so he did not have to keep awkwardly shuffling the books in his hands. She put her hands in her pockets and stared at him. He was definitely more shy than she had first thought, but it seemed more rude to her to just go on her way without trying to make up for pulling him out of his reverie. “It is my fault, really.”
“...This place is not too hard to get used to. Once you walk it half a dozen times and spend a couple hours in each place. Though, I admit I am still working on that myself,” Lynn smiled, hoping it would help him relax. “And the people do not bite, I promise....You’re new?”
Roll With The Tides || Alex & Lynn || V7 W4 || Wednesday Morning
underwater-breathing-apparatus:
“Wow.” Alex didn’t stop himself from smiling brightly at the thought of that power. Breathing underwater was cool enough, but being able to control it? It just sounded amazing.
Glancing at the water for a second, Alex rubbed the back of his neck before replying. “I breath underwater. Not quite as useful as your’s, but it’s fun.” He said with a grin.
Her smile widened to a grin. “Really?” Lynn looked at Alex, impressed. “No, don’t say that. I am almost certain that breathing underwater isn’t something I can do, so you have a definite advantage there.”
She gestured a hand to the pool as she spoke, expressing turning curious. A part of her had the politeness to look at least a little abashed at the bold questions. “How long have you been able to stay underwater? Have you tested it a lot?”

crowdedinmy-head:
Thomas, or Teddy as he was called so often, was positively nerve-wracked about starting at this new school. It was for people like him but, even then, Teddy usually wasn’t the type to fit in well. He would have preferred his mother tutoring him but they had insisted it was better for him there. Something about possibly containing his outbursts. Or that’s what they called them since the knowledge he obtained could be far past overwhelming and serve as a trigger. The whole first couple of hours he was there was enough to cause him to start biting his own nails.
But the moment he had some peace, rather than search out his new room, Teddy instead sought somewhere with a bit more solitude: the library. It was his sanctuary back at his old school. It took him a little while to find it but he managed alright. At least he didn’t have to worry about getting lost so easily once he was shown the place a bit more.
Dark brown eyes wandered over the area, taking in as much as possible before heading to some of the shelves. Primarily something to do with music. The whole time, Teddy kept his head down and gaze avoided others. He would just rather go unnoticed as ‘the new kid’ completely.
Lynn wasn’t sure what to make of the campus and its apparent bad luck with disastrous incidents. At least no one was hurt this time. It was something she had said a few times over to her parents when they freaked out over the weekly phone call.
It was not long before she decided to simply accept it and continue on as if it was school like usual. That she could do; grades were very important to her, after all. She rolled into the library after lunch and set up her things. After an hour, Lynn finished taking notes from a certain book and stood to replace it.
She loved this library, she really did. It felt just as expansive and at the same time hushed as the one at her former campus. Lynn found what she was 99% sure was the correct aisle, saw there was another student there. Stepping past him, she replaced the book. Then she peered at him curiously before facing his direction. Lynn smiled, tone quiet. “Do you need help finding something? I have become amateur-ish at navigating these shelves.”

“Well uh-” Alex rubbed the back of his neck, not sure whether he should tell the girl that he wasn’t technically be at the school or not. “I was gonna practice too..” He said, looking at the water for a moment, before he smiled back at the stranger. “You have a water power too? I gotta ask, uh, what do uh, what do you do?”
She was going to leave, already turned for the door, but then Alex mentioned their similarities so she stilled. Lynn shrugged slight. “Yeah.” She gestured with her hands, glancing to them. “It says hydrokinesis on my papers. Which is basically...all water manipulation? Not that I have that range of skills, yet.”
Her eyebrows raised, curious and a bit hopeful. “What is it you can do?” Lynn smiled, sharing, “I haven’t met anyone with a water power, this is cool.”
Sloth || Grif & Lynn || V6 W3 || Thursday Afternoon
griffin-stop-the-clock:
“Sorry to disappoint.” He said bitterly, watching her walk away. Perhaps he’d been too mean, after all, she’d only wanted to talk to him. But his sleep time was very precious to him; to interrupt it was, in Grif’ mind, akin to punching him in the face. And no one is expected to be civil after you get punched in the face.
Satisfied that she was gone, Grif sat back down and tried once again to take a nap- this time however he pressed pause on the world, just so he knew he wouldn’t be disturbed.

Roll With The Tides || Alex & Lynn || V7 W4 || Wednesday Morning
underwater-breathing-apparatus:
After he’d heard about the pool, Alex couldn’t stop himself from coming back to the school to check it out. Since he’d gotten settled in, he’d barely even seen water that hadn’t come directly from a tap, and it was starting to stress him out. So, with a towel and a spare set of dry clothes in a bag, Alex headed onto the campus.
Alex hadn’t even had time to dip a toe in the water before someone else walked in. Given that he probably wasn’t supposed to be there, Alex had the sudden instinct to try and hide, but it didn’t seem like he would have the time.
“No no, I’m sorry.” He said, holding up his hands defensively, looking at the girl with an apologetic expression. “ You stay, I’ll go… I was just uh, coming to check the place out.”
She felt bad for the way the guy seemed to get all nervous. Lynn shook off his apologetic look with a wave of a hand. “No, no. You’re obviously here to actually use the pool,” she pointed out, then looked at her clothes. Lynn quirked her lips. “It would not be fair if I kicked you out.”
“And anyway, I only wanted to see if this thing is still open so I can practice my ability.” Once she actually walked in the room, Lynn remembered her encounter with Claire last week. That was cringe-worthy; and because of that something she pushed out of her mind, apparently. She nodded to him. “I see that it is, uh, open, so I’ll let you swim in peace.”
Sloth || Grif & Lynn || V6 W3 || Thursday Afternoon
griffin-stop-the-clock:
“Oh my god, because I like sleeping under trees, okay?” Throwing up his hands in an exasperated way, Grif got to his feet. “It’s outside, it’s shaded, I like it, si? God, eres tan estupido como un perro.” Grif shook his head. Clearly he was having no look trying to sleep outside, so he was just going to have to try napping back in his dorm room.
He was about to walk away in a mood, before turning back to the woman with lowered eyebrows. “Why do you even care so much?!”
She watched him slip into Spanish and was almost interested. But then she caught the ‘estupido’ part and was pretty sure it wasn’t a false cognate. Lynn decided to cut her losses and shook her head. “Yeah, yeah.”
When Grif asked, she shrugged. “I don’t. But I was curious and bored. And usually the cliched trope is the lazy guy sleeping under the tree is laid-back, not full of anger issues. My mistake.” Lynn clicked her tongue. So maybe kicking his foot wasn’t the best start. Oh well. She turned away. “See you around.”
