i haven't seen anyone in the tags or comments (edit: just saw the one reply) point out the fact that this is generally what happens when you try to stage a coup in a country that has compulsory military service for male citizens between the ages of 18 and 35. you aren't dealing with an untrained populous. these guys protesting have the same exact training and often the same backgrounds as the military who are supporting the coup. it also creates a very different dynamic in terms of interactions on the ground.
