"And a real winner you chose with that one, Jack," replied Silas as he stared hard at him.  "Did you pick her because you knew she couldn’t conceive a child or will you claim that as ignorance as well?"

He squared his shoulders and a funny look came over his eyes.  “No, the military is too good for you, Jack.  If you think that living within a monarch was the easy life, I wonder just how bored you would become with any other job out there.  Risking your life for a country that sees you for what you are would be easy, especially with the opportunity to either disappear or be killed.  No, no, Jack.  If you want obscurity, you should take up a job like everyone else.  Perhaps a few months of working somewhere, let’s say, retail, would be more to  your capabilities.  Stocking shelves, cleaning everyone’s messes, and being around normal people, that would be more fitting for you.”

Stepping closer to Jack, he spoke in a hushed tone, “It was not I who killed him, Jack.  I knew of him, but I did not kill what you loved.”

It was what he expected from his father, he was not good enough for the military.  Not good enough for anywhere really.  It was hard enough for him to get up and out of bed each morning, and this was just hitting home as to why he had run away.  Why he had fled or was still planning too.  There was no place for him left in Gilboa, it was time for him to accept that and leave.

"I don't believe you," Jack said in a quiet voice.  "Because if it wasn't you, then I'm positive that I do know who it was because there is only one other person who would do anything to protect her children."  He meant it, if it wasn't his father, then he was sure that his mother would have known would have had something to do with it.  She was the one who stopped the tape from getting out after all.

He straightened his back, and held his head up.  "I won't take up any more of your time your majesty, I have wasted far too much of it already.  You will not have to worry about me anymore.  I already have passage booked out of the country, have an old friend who said he'd help me get out and get settled somewhere else." Somewhere where no one knew his name.

An update:

Yesterday morning tellmewasitreal passed away from a blot clot.  I know that there are some of you who follow me that also RP'd with and followed her either as Joseph, or as one of her other blog including aformerweapon.  I wanted to let you all know because I know there are some of you out there who care about her as much as I do.

Silas stared at the man before him, not entirely sure whether or not he was looking at yet another trick meant to catch him off guard or if this man was truly his son who had grown up and decided what he wanted most.  The King lifted his head slightly, still not keen to trust the one who betrayed him and said, “What will you do then, Jack?  Just forget all of this and leave it behind?  Do you really think that it will be that easy for you to walk away with absolutely nothing?”

"Go back to the military, it is what I am good at and it is the only thing I have been good at." He was a soldier, what he had been raised to do and right then it seemed to be the only option.  A dog that was good at doing what his master commanded.  "Assuming they'd have be back.  If not I'd leave, I have nothing holding me here. Not the man I loved, not that girl you locked me up with until she got pregnant.  Not a job, no friends.  Not the God who no longer speaks to me. Not even my own family wants me around any more..."  At one point he might have tried to plead his case.  He might have tried to explain how it had been his uncle's constant whispering in his ear had distorted his view of everything.  He gave that up.  "I don't think it will be easy, I had the easy life, and it destroyed me.  I was only ever myself when the lights were off."

So be it."

"Calm down..." Jack said leaning against the nearby wall.  "They won't bother you for long, eventually they'll go away."
