If you're a Disney nerd, you should know that Oswald the Lucky rabbit has 420 blue bunny children all named Oswald Jr. as explain through Epic Mickey, and his wife is a black cat name Ortensia the Cat (or formerly known as Sadie, whatever). The biggest question I've heard go around, and I question this myself, how does a rabbit and a cat get together and they still get rabbit children? Shouldn't they be rabbit/cat hybrids? Maybe they look like rabbits but act like cats. I dunno.
But if you ask me, I have a different theory. The reason they're all rabbits is because......
Ortensia is not their biological mother.
Lemmie explain:
Back in 1927 Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks worked for Universal, we know that story. The first episode ever created was called Poor Papa. It was not, however, the first cartoon to air due to the fact that they wanted to give Oswald a younger approach to appeal to the audience. But that episode was aired later on, so it is cannon. In this episode, Oswald had another lover named Francine (or Fanny) Cottontail. She frequently appeared in other episodes along with Sadie (Ortensia). But if you look at the episode Poor Papa, Oswald had many children with FANNY COTTONTAIL, not Sadie.
But yet Oswald's with Ortensia today. What happened?
My theory, they may have had a rough patch in their relationship and he and Fanny went their separate ways, and probably lost all contact with her. But Oswald still took custody over the kids. So perhaps he was a single father for a while until he hooked up with Ortensia for good, who willing accepted his children as her own as well.
My headcannon is he hasn't told his children the truth about Ortensia or their real mother, and plans to keep it a secret as long as he can. Not because he wants to hide his past, but because he feels even though Fanny is their real mom, Ortensia has been more of a mother than she has ever been in their lifetime. Why bother associating with a family member if they won't even make the commitment to at least try to make contact with them?
So I believe the kids are truly Oswald's, but Ortensia is a a stepmother to them. But that shouldn't matter, this family loves each other too much!!
