A cute result of mixing a bohemian and a rustic style!

Why is David Cardelús one of my favorite architectural photographers?
Some time ago, I don’t remember when, I stumbled upon David Cardelús’ website. Since then I have featured a lot, A LOT, of his work here on archatlas, I have corresponded with him, and discovered a photographer passionate about his work, professional and dedicated, and knowledgeable about architecture and photography.
From the first time I found his work to be authentic. In a time where the glut of information makes many photographers and architects rely on gimmicks and affectations Cardelús work shines because of its honesty. The building design, the spaces and light, its colors and details, come through on the images in a way that makes us feel like we are there. His work on Gaudi’s work has allowed me to experience these projects for the first time, in images that are crisp and filled with light.
So, for all that, as an architect, I say thanks to David, may you keep sharing your images with us for a long time!

Plastic House URBAN AGENCY
A house is excavated and a space created. The insertion of a polycarbonate and steel cruciform object allows habitation, setting up a complex series of interconnected and overlapping spaces. The object, a piece of architectural furniture, spreads treelike from a concentrated base housing a kitchen, toilet, storage and stairwell. Above this is a platform for sleeping, dressing and study spaces. The four branches of the structure hold various functions – two spanning to the side walls act as wardrobes, while the branch to the front is a cantilevered reading desk for the teacher-client. The fourth branch extends through the rear wall and projects two metres beyond it housing a shower room. This room is glazed to the sky, reminiscent of the traditional “Georgian return typology”. The lightweight structure is also the primary source of light in the evening – inset fittings cause its translucent surfaces to illuminate the spaces.

Capturing moments not things.
Colosses Fabrice Fouillet
Statues are often idealized works of art. They are ideological, political or religious representations and attempt to turn their subjects into fascinating, eternal figures. Even when erected to keep alive the memory of a single person, a statue that lasts many generations will eventually establish itself as a symbol for the community.
Statues are even more influential when they are monumental. An edifice can be said to be monumental when it is unusual, extraordinary and physically imposing. It has to be abnormal — as exceptional as the political or religious power itself — and also inseparable from its symbolic aspects.
The series “Colosses” is a study of the landscapes that embrace monumental commemorative statues.
