@waxydoestumbler
You are now one of millions among a new subspecies of humanity, the introverts. You no longer go outside, sustenance is brought to you via robotic machines. Light no longer trickles in from panes if glass, now windows are blocked in and small ventilation fans pocket walls. All of your communication is done digitally and your main characteristic is agoraphobia - no longer a phobia but just a way of life.
You start this new life by making notches on a the back of a door, counting the number of days since you last had any other in person human interaction. After 200 days, you stop updating it because you no longer want to see other people, your reflection and the digitised camera feeds of friends and colleagues is enough for your day to day social interaction. You begin to realise life is more routine but also more scheduled and you like this. Food always arrives on time. Bulk orders are clearly organised and pre-packed. The need for even a front door disappears as new delivery compartments are added to walls and roofs.
Now you live in a sealed house. No way in or out for anything larger than a common house spider. Sometimes a breeze starts to flow between different vents but goes away as quickly as it came. Symptoms of illness are spoken online and prescriptions delivered like everything else. Health returns to normal quickly. Large swaths of humanity join in with this new way of life, fertility rates decrease as more people live alone or in small groups with no interest in procreation. These people have longer life spans and healthier minds. Stress creeps into their minds much less as routine and personal expectations are met and take over.
With the general health and well-being benefits skyrocket, other humans convert to this way of life. In five generations over half of the worlds population has turned to this new way of living. After 300 years, humanity as we know it is all but wiped out. Small groups of extroverts cling to ramshackle societies on the edge of cities and in abandoned buildings. Birthrates decreases drastically and jobs were quickly replaced with robotic or digital versions so many people worked from home or went jobless. Once governments collapsed these jobless extroverts bound together. While the jobless introverts ran out of money while trapped inside their own coffins. But it is known among those who survive that no one will ever be as happy as the introverts were... but the extroverts agreed to sacrifice that happiness for families and friends... ones they could see in person... touch and hold. Rather than being locked behind screens and working from home, they begun to rebuild humanity again.
I love the arangement of these flowers sent to me by my wonderful girlfriend during the lockdown what a kind gesture.

Traversing the Maw (World of Warcraft Fanfiction) - Before the Shadow (on Wattpad) https://my.w.tt/T3fnUQ1wD5 Welcome back to Azeroth, champion! Yet, perhaps a different Azeroth than the one you know. I joined World of Warcraft back in Legion and fell in love with the world I adventured in. So, I decided I wanted to write about it. This work of fan fiction is my own continuation of the story after the events of the Battle for Azeroth expansion. I hope that you enjoy adventuring with me. Because of the nature of fan fiction, I of course do not own the rights to any of the properties or characters mentioned in this work of fiction. All properties are primarily owned by Activision Blizzard, Inc. and Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. The intellectual property associated with World of Warcraft and its narrative universe are contained in this work of fiction under fair use due to the nonexistence of monetary gain. This work of fiction does not represent the companies stated above or their employees and any parallels between this work and the narrative within the Shadowlands expansion is purely coincidental (it just means I'm a good guesser and Blizzard should definitely hire me). At the time of writing this, Friday 20th March 2020, Shadowlands has not yet been released.
Predawn
Every now and again I have a weird idea for a short little story or writing exercise… well here’s today’s:
When I was younger I used to stay awake as long as I could, laying in the long grass outside my family home. I would watch the stars twinkle and dance across the night sky, I’d see streaks of light etch their way across the void, all while listening to the distant chatter of bugs enjoying the night. However, I always wanted to watch the stars turn to the blue sky I saw throughout the day, I wanted to see the night turn to dawn but I would always fall asleep, bristled by the gentle breeze blowing the grass around me. Hours later, I’d wake to see the bright blue shining down on me… not the endlessly brilliant star filled sky.
One warm, arid night I was laying in the grass - now so long that it obscured my vision of the night sky. I didn’t mind though, I actually kind of liked it - it created a dark frame around my vision, perfectly drawing my attention to the stars above. It was on this night that I saw a star appear, as if from nowhere. I hadn’t seen it any other night, nor was it there seconds earlier. At first it was a faint reddish star, clear but distant. I watched it over the next hour grow increasingly bright, flicking violently the entire time. It grew to dominate my framed vision, creating a brilliant silhouette of the grass around me. Its red glow turning the black night sky into a violent battlefield of spilled blood, I began to hear birds stir as the star bathed the world in a morning like light. But in a flash, it was gone, transforming the entire sky back into that brilliant darkness… before a second, even greater explosion of colour was cast across the sky. Streaks of red, blue and yellow created stellar rainbows across the entire sky.
I laid there for hours, watching the sky transform from one beautiful painting to another. Watching as these streaks seemed to curve across the sky towards other stars, connecting them with what seemed like space highways. It was at that moment I began to see it… a faint light over the eastern horizon, dawn was just approaching. I had watched such an amazing and beautiful stellar phenomenon happen in the predawn hours of this late summer day. The sun grew larger over the horizon, bathing the trees and rooftops I could barely see, in a golden morning light. I could feel the morning heat begin to warm the day beyond its already traditional summer heat. I sat up and saw the sky not bathed in the usual orange and blue tones of dawn but instead it looked blown out, ghostly even.
Leaves on the trees began to shrivel and fall. Fires began to ignite across the gardens. The sky was blinding to look at and I could feel my skin begin to boil. Blood bubbled across the surface of my arms and my vision grew cloudy… until I could see was that dark sky again but this time no stars to twinkle back at me. I collapsed to the ground, my breath becoming sharp and difficult. Eventually, I came to accept my fate and laid back down in that spot I always had and looked up at the sky and just imagined what I had seen in the predawn sky. I felt a faint smile formed across my face as all I saw were streaks of red, blue and yellow before white.
