it should be

almost thick enough to chew

back in uni I had this great friend, we always had such a good time and so much fun together...but when I stepped away from academia and she started her PhD, I noticed that when she reached out to me she always led with [our profs] asked about when you're coming back etc. And I know she always reported back about me to them bc she struck up a friendship with them and that made me feel uncomfortable...the academia thing is a bit of a sore topic for me anyway, I'm feeling avoidant about it all, so I eventually didn't reply to her message and didn't reach out again and neither did she and now a year or more even has passed and we neither met nor spoke. I know it's mostly my fault and I have been feeling bad about it...today she sent me a voice message and I'm feeling hesitant to listen to it. I hope it's just a regular hey it's been so long wyd, but it also could be a hey [prof] wants to know when you're coming back. And i don't want to deal with that. I wish we could rekindle our friendship and I miss her...but I need her to understand that I wish she wouldn't act as the prof's arm or mouthpiece or whatever.

Or of course I could learn to face the music and stop being avoidant around certain topics, that would also solve problems...but I'm not ready for that conversation

💀 also on the tram I just saw an advertisement for an event where you can watch a real ice hockey team's training session and then/(or during idk?!) a romance author does a reading of her ice hockey smut stories...I mean I think that's crazy but more power to you lol
