Grandma River || closed
“Spoilers dear. I’m sure you’ll find out about me eventually.” River said with a sly smirk as she began setting everything on the table before sitting down to rest her old bones. After just a few moments of listening to the girl, River burst out laughing long and hard until she was pratically crying with mirth. “Sit down kid and let me tell you how very wrong you are.”
“You see they may lead rather boring lives now but for most of their existence they traveled all of time and space helping people and getting into trouble.” She said as she sipped her tea. “You say that they would die in a horror movie but you are dead wrong. They are what the monsters in horror movies fear most. I have seen whole armies turn and run at the mere mention of their name. You may not have seen it but your parents are two of the most feared and respected beings in all of time and space. They are the Oncoming Storm, the Time Lord Victorious, the Dalek’s Predator, and a host of other titles given to them by the species of the universe.”
Bea started laughing.
“Those are nothing but old and tired stories they used to tell us as bedtime stories. I don’t even believe that there’s such a thing as a Dalek. They’re not at all terrifying besides the very fact that they are who knows how old and they act like five year olds. Anything or anyone scared of them are nothing but jokes. I know my dads. They’re far from intimidating. Believe me, you haven’t seen even half of the things they’ve done in the time I can remember. If they were anything, they’re the biggest dorks in all of time and space. For the longest time, my brother was stuck wearing bow ties until he was old enough to tell them to stop. I’m just surprised that they’ve got you in on this.”

“Ah my two favorite idiots, I had thought as much from your looks and manner of arrival.” River said with a chuckle as she put her gun away before turning around to start making them some tea. “And for your information bowties are very cool when those two are wearing them. I have rather fond memories of various shenanigans involving them and lots of dirty bed sheets.”
“Seems to me that you don’t need any help in the feeling sorry for yourself department, not that I’m surprised given who your parents are.” She snickered as she began plating up some fresh baked cookies and other goodies for them to snack on while they talked. “Oh don’t be so dramatic. Those two adore you just as much as they do your brother. I’m betting he’s the quiet one that gets alone with them, am I right? I remember how much trouble I caused my own parents but you know what? Never once did they stop loving me and it’s the same with your dads.”
She then turned to give the younger female an annoyed look. “You think you’ve got baggage? Try living over a thousand years while dealing with all manner of aliens and trying to make sure those two idiots don’t get killed. Trust me kiddo, you’ve got it easy.”
She rolled her eyes at River’s statement about bow ties, only to blush very badly and nearly choke on air.
“I DID NOT NEED TO KNOW THAT!!” she exclaimed, feeling embarrassed before calming down and asked, “so you and one or both of my dads were a thing?”
“I don’t see how difficult it would be for you to keep them alive considering the fact that their lives just aren’t dangerous. I mean, okay, they work for the government, but they both say it’s boring and just working with computers. How dangerous could their lives possibly be when they have a normal job like normal people and they do all the normal things parents do? And for another thing, they are so immature that, if their lives turned into a survival horror flick, they’d be the comic relief that gets killed halfway through the movie.”

River gave the girl a ‘you’re-such-an-idiot’ look as she lowered her gun somewhat. “And who exactly are your dads that make the thought of gallivanting across time and space preferable to spending time with them?” She asked with a hint of mockery in her tone. “And you do realize that by your own actions you might have thrown your timeline out of sinc with theirs meaning that you might never see them in the right order again.”
River knew she was probably being a bit cruel but she could clearly see that this kid was much like she had been at that age, which meant that the girl before her probably needed a good shaking up to get certain facts through her thick skull.
She let out a sigh of relief when she saw the elder lady lower the gun.
“The names they use for each other are ‘Doctor’ and ‘Fleshy’. They like to claim that they’re adults, but they’re really big dorks and idiots and with the same fashion sense. I don’t get how they can think that bow ties are cool.”
She frowned a bit when she heard the second half of the elder woman’s statement.
“So? If that’s supposed to scare me or make me feel sorry for myself, that won’t work. Between my brother and I, he’s their favorite. It’s like he can do no wrong. Our dads love him, the girls at the school adore him and try to snatch him up and I’m always the one who isn’t good enough. If I try to be who they want me to be, it means that I won’t be good enough to be in the right social standing in order to misdirect the girls who are after him. I’m literally torn between ever getting any level of acceptance or understanding from my dads and being able to protect my brother. Although, it is kinda creepy that both of my dads look exactly alike. Sometimes I wonder if they both have huge cases of narcissism.”
She looked away, hugging her arms in front of her as she said, “I’m pretty sure that they’re better without me anyways. They still have their favorite child without the extra baggage.”

It had been quite some time since River left the Library and even longer since she had had contact with any of the people that really knew her. So she had been living on her own and as the years passed she realized that she was aging faster than she should be so that now she appeared to be in her late sixties but that didn’t mean she wasn’t still spry.
A fact she proved when she spun around with her gun raised to confront whoever had just teleport into her flat. Not recognizing who it was, River fired off a warning shot before leveling her gun at the intruder’s chest. “I just you tell me how you are and why you thought it was a good idea to invade my flat.” She said conversationally as she leaned on her cane with her free hand.
Her hands snapped up in the universal gesture of surrender as a warning shot was fired at her. She was shaking in terror, her green eyes wide with fear. She was only sixteen and she was convinced that she was going to be shot and killed.
“I didn’t mean to!” she exclaimed in terror, stuttering and stammering in fear, “I don’t even know where or when your flat is! I just wanted to escape the horror that is family night. My name’s Beatrix Smith. I am so dead, both literally and figuratively. You’re gonna kill me literally while my dads are gonna kill me afterwards.”

"Which answer would you prefer?" He asked with a playful wink as he sat down before he turned serious. "I know what it is to be hunted, I’ve been there myself and if you wish I can help you. I assure you that dying is most definitely a painful process and one I would not wish on someone such as yourself."
She looked at the man.
"How would you know how it feels like to die? You look alive and not a zombie."
She took a sip of her hot chocolate.
"So what's our plan besides to run if they see us? I don't think they'll find me. They have a large searching area and they'd be more likely to go looking for me at parties and night clubs than a calm cafe."

Seeing how twitchy the girl was being River decided that it was time to act. He put away his book and picked up his tea cup before carefully making his way over to her.
"May I sit with you?" He asked with a small smile as he indicated the chair across from her. "I don’t often see such beautiful girls in here."
"Are you always so eloquent to all the pretty faces or am I a special case?" she asked with a smile before saying, "you may not want to deal with my kind of life. Not a lot of people can. Especially since I know I'm being chased... hunted down and if they find me, I am dead. And I'm in no hurry to learn what it feels like to die. From all accounts, it sounds painful."

Normally River didn’t pay much attention to the people who went in and out of the cafe but something about this girl caught his eye. The way she was acting. He knew it all too well, this girl was acting like some one was after her and that made River pay attention.
He decided to obverse for now though, it’s not like there were many people in the cafe at this time of day anyway.
She ducked further down in the chair, further trying to avoid everyone's notice. She could almost feel a set of eyes glance at her from across the almost empty cafe. She didn't want anyone to notice her and there was that one guy who she was certain was glancing at her. Noticing her.
She almost dived under the table the moment she thought she saw a purple jacket. But it turned out to be a blue blazer and she let out a sigh.
[as wayfarerxofxtime] "Oh bugger. So how much trouble am I in this time?"
"…Why would ya be in trouble?"
"As ready as I’ll ever be," he said, grabbing her hand. "You have a brother? I hope he’s not a fucking douchebag like all of my biological brothers are."
"He and I are actually close. He's generally the favorite because he's the one who's all about following their rules while I'm the one who runs off and has fun. We used to be closer, actually. We're still close though."
Johnny froze up at the mention of The Doctor and Fleshy. Hearing that they were together both amazed him and saddened him. He frowned for a moment before forcing a smile.
"Y-Yes, I know them very well in fact," he said, his voice a bit strained. "It surprises me to hear that they are together and have children.."
He sighed at her words and shook his head. “I know them enough to know that they don’t want to control you, they get worried is all and never favor anyone over another person. Though, sometimes they aren’t good at showing it. They love you.”
He smiled and patted her back.
"Just talk to them and you will see, what I am talking about."
She rolled her eyes at the man.
"That would be a wonderful idea if not for one big, glaring detail. They never listen to me. Ever. They haven't listened to me ever since I entered Middle School. Since then, I swear they've dismissed everything I've said to them as me raising drama or being too attached to my social standing. Whenever I ask for just a little bit of freedom, they say no and if I ever get a reason why, it's always the same. It's always about how my brother and I are the youngest Time Lords in the universe and how they apparently ticked off half the universe - which I really can't believe. I mean, have you seen them? They're the biggest dorks in the universe."
[as wayfarerxofxtime] "Oh bugger. So how much trouble am I in this time?"
"…Why would ya be in trouble?"
"Of course I do! All this time I thought he was dead… Can you imagine how happy he’d be?"
"He would be ecstatic. And I could introduce you to my twin brother," she said with a beaming grin as she started to set the vortex manipulator before holding out her hand, "ready?"
[as wayfarerxofxtime] "Oh bugger. So how much trouble am I in this time?"
"…Why would ya be in trouble?"
"Possibly. He’s still alive, r-right? The man who took me in after several years of being a child living on his own, trying to fend for himself against half brothers and nephews who wanted him dead? Dad’s still alive?"
"If that man is one of my dads then yes, he is. Or he was when I left and considering that I should be able to get us there within a few hours and miles of where and when I left, then he should be." She grinned before asking, "you wanna come and see for yourself?"
[as wayfarerxofxtime] "What is it about you that makes our dads love you more? And don't give me crap about how they don't because we know that they do. Sometimes, I just wish I knew why."
"They don’t love me more, whether you want to believe it or not. They love us equally its just sometimes you don’t always make it easy. Remember when you upset mum when she was pregnant, eh?"
"And how many times have you said that to them without sounding like a drama queen, Bea? Also, I wouldn’t count out their stories, for all we know they could be true and we are just laughing at them until we truly find out."
"What's that supposed to mean? I don't sound like a drama queen. Everyone else thinks I'm a drama queen all because I've been stressed. Everyone thinks it's so easy that my life is perfect and isn't as bad or hard I think it is and I'm getting fed up, Cal. Everyone seems to think that it's so easy pretending to be on the same intellectual level as our so-called peers. And I have to pretend to be even more empty minded just so that I can get respect and not get bullied for being different. In case if you don't get it, other girls my age are like a pack of wolves and if you don't act like a part of the pack, you're prey. It's either pretending to be utterly stupid like the rest of them or being a target and they would bully me without mercy until I break down. I know how they're like. Neither you nor our dads would understand because you all are guys. It's harder for a girl. And you see me trying to talk, trying to explain while being under nothing but stress and call me being a drama queen."
"Bea, maybe you should try telling them all of this. I am sure they want nothing more than to see you being you without the drama you have seem to brought. Even I can see that cliques have gotten to you. I love you dearly and will always be here for you, but there is more to life than that. Well if their stories are true, they know plenty about interacting."
"Cal, do you honestly think that I haven't told them that I feel smothered by them and all that? They've reacted as if I was being a brat. Besides, I find those stories hard to believe. I mean, look at them. I've seen kittens more intimidating than our dads."

"So you’re saying that your friends who only accept you because of what you wear and how you act are more accepting than you’re parents who couldn’t care what you wear and how you act. You are one of the dumbest people I have ever met if you can’t see that friends who only like certain aspects of you aren’t real friends." River said coldly as she stood up. "You are seventeen, on the brink of being an adult by human standards and you’re still acting like a child. Grow the fuck up. You don’t always get what you want but even though you have disobeyed them and likely been a brat to them. Even after all that, you can without a doubt believe that you will always be welcomed by them, that you will always have a place to come home to. They have given you the one thing they can never have because to save all of existence they had to destroy their own people and planet. You don’t realize what gift it is to have a home you can always return to. You’re pathetic.”
"I have to act a certain way to be accepted by my parents too! If you could just open your ears and listen, unlike literally everyone else!" she shouted before muttering, "whatever. Everyone's the same anyways."
She pressed the button to activate the vortex manipulator and disappeared in a puff of steam.
"You’re wrong about that, Bea, they do accept you. It’s just that sometimes I think they want to spend more family time together and if you are always wanting to be with you friends and not wanting to be around them it gets to them. We could use more of that, you know." he sighed and hugged his sister tightly. "Dad doesn’t hate you for that."
"I wouldn't mind family time as much if they didn't make me feel like I'm constantly being smothered or that I have to act a certain way to just be accepted by everyone. Sometimes, I feel like that around you too. Sometimes I just feel like there's something completely wrong with me but I just feel like I've got no one to talk to. Not even our dads. I'm entirely convinced that they don't know how to interact with anyone who's not each other."

"That’s because a TARDIS is meant to be piloted by six people and your father has to do it all himself. That and he never was the best pilot." River explained ruefully. "You young lady are more than a bit of a brat, I know they aren’t the best teachers but you need to learn patience and understanding. Behind every decision they make there is a reason. Instead of whining, ask for that reason. I think you might find things go smoother that way."
"Do you honestly think that I've never asked why? I gave up asking because all their reasons are the same. They don't like my friends, they think that the parties my friends have are ones they don't want me to go to, and they keep me in the house as much as they do because they don't think I spend enough time with the family. And they don't realize that the reason I want to spend more time with my friends is because they don't make me feel like I'm being smothered all the time or make me feel like they don't truly accept me. All I've ever needed to do to be accepted by my friends is to dress a certain way and act dumber than I am, which I already do because everyone at the school are dumber than I am and I need to lower myself to their standards or be seen as a freak."
She let out a sigh, "I know it could sound like I'm being a spoiled brat, but I honestly feel like I can't just be me unless I'm out on my own. I can't be me around my dads because they expect me to act a certain way and Cal continually tells me that I'm just a spoiled brat and my friends expect me to act like an airheaded idiot like they all are. I have next to no freedom and I just have no one I could truly just talk to like this. I know my dads and Cal would never understand if I just talk to them like this. I swear my dads are completely clueless about interacting with anyone which aren't each other."
