Titanic (film) trivia: The steerage party scene was filmed on October 28th 1996 and required one day of shooting only. Both Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio learned how to dance the polka for the shooting. All of the extras were professional dancers and the band seen performing in the film was an actual folkloric band called ‘Gaelic Storm’ who were performing live on set. This was Kate Winslet’s favorite scene to shoot. She says: "It wasn’t about water or anything else that had to do with the film. I didn’t have to look so pristine all the time.
