With Hollanov I’ve noticed a lot of people revisiting Yuri!!! On Ice and I needed to rewatch it to remember how great it was for the time it came out. Truly tone of the first anime’s that got me watching ice/winter sports and potentially the gateway anime for me getting into hockey now. Wish they televised figure skating competitions tbh
But here is my revisit to Viktuuri 💕⛸️
Thnaks to oomf (my best friend) who made this with Junpei from Persona 3 and give me an idea
Commitment... Devotion... Call it what you will, we'll call it love. @viktuuri-week day 7.
The Stammi Vicino Duetto is actually so wild when you sit down and think about it from the perspective of a figure skating fan who lives in the YoI universe.
Viktor Nikiforov, who some may argue to be the greatest men’s singles skater ever, skates this melancholy routine that is chock-full of so much longing and heartache that it’s impossible to ignore. I cannot even imagine what the forums looked like and how much speculation there was over the inspiration behind Stammi Vicino.
And then he suddenly takes a break from skating. He’s getting older, so this probably isn’t an absolute surprise, but it’s still VERY unexpected. He just walks away with no warning at all.
What the REAL surprise is is that he randomly becomes a coach for this Japanese skater who has been tanking competitions left and right, running off to Japan with no warning.
(Just so we’re all following here: insanely emotionally charged free skate, sudden break from the sport he has dominated for years, impromptu career change that makes no sense)
Do you think the fans thought this was his mid-life crisis? Do you think they thought he had lost his mind?
And then, the very next time he’s back on the ice publicly, HE IS SKATING TO A REVISED VERSION OF THAT SAME MELANCHOLY ARIA THAT STARTED THIS WHOLE MESS.
He is skating to the Stammi Vicino Duetto at the GPF exhibition with his student who was floundering this same time last year and has now won silver. THEY ARE DOING A PAIR SKATE AND LOOKING AT EACH OTHER WITH HEART EYES.
They are doing a pair skate to the Stammi Vicino Duetto, looking at each other with heart eyes, and Viktor Nikiforov is coming back to the ice after seemingly finding the love of his life.
I guarantee this would have broken at least one social media platform.

@animangacreators challenge pride month 2025 ↳ YURI ON ICE
Saw this tweet and thought it sounded like something that would happen to them
we (still) call everything on the ice 'love'
I may never get over how Viktor looks at Yuuri
yk why yuri on ice is such a unique love story? bc despite their physical attraction to each other it makes it abundantly clear that victuuri did not have a shot at an actual relationship until they let go of their ideas of each other.
for victor that idea is that of banquet yuuri
for yuuri it's childhood idol victor
they're both infatuated with a version of the other that's only conditionally present, short lived, made up or exaggerated. and the story makes a point to actively THWART the possibility of love at first sight. it keeps insisting that it's not love. not yet.
but it's not nothing. they are unquestionably drawn to each other. esp bc the other represents to them something they're yearning in themselves: yuuri is to victor connection, passion, and the feeling of aliveness that he'd become so numb to, so devoid of. victor represents a voice for self-validation, of acceptance from an opinion that seems to matter well above yuuri's own.
but just bc they want that doesn't mean they know how to get it or even accept it for what it is. they constantly miscalculate their moves and misunderstand and upset each other.
but they keep at it. and it grows into something more. the shift is so evident as they go through the motions of GPF. we see their relationship become one of easy familiarity. and you can tell what it is now, without them having to say it to each other or to us. they show us a love story just by building a special relationship and showing why it should matter.
