Beauty media and cosmetic products can affect how we perceive ourselves. Famous magazines are known for using Photoshop to edit photos, making the models look thinner and without any wrinkles or blemishes.
Check out Giovanna’s letter to a famous magazine editor:
I see you have been the editor of the magazine vogue for around 32 years and I know you have a lot of experience in this area. However, when me and my friend Caio were looking through vogue’s issue 8 from this year, we noticed that your group were using photoshop on your model’s photos and a lot of people don’t know it, do you realize how bad these consequences can be?
Whenever you chose to use photoshop to change someone’s appearance in order to make them look more “attractive”, you should let people aware of the changes you and your team are making, especially because sometimes achieving some of those changes can be really hard or almost not possible.
Following that line, we can say that a lot of people want to look as pretty as the models they see on magazines, and therefore, they will try achieve these beauty standards by all manners, some which can be dangerous for both mental and physical health.
Even though looking to be pretty is not a problem, it’s really concerning when it becomes an unhealthy obsession, causing a lot of disturbs and diseases that can lead to death, like anorexia, bulimia, body dysphoria, anxiety and even depression.
Said that, I really hope you’ll understand the reasons why I’m writing this letter. As a wish that will help thousands of people around the world with your very famous magazine, now you are aware of the negative consequences the lack of a warning label can make, hence you may avoid a diversity of unwanted issues.
