The Big Bang Theory Review: "The Conjugal Conjecture”
Top 10 Thoughts on The Big Bang Theory, Episode 10.1:
10. I just want to say that the whole scenario of Penny’s family, her brother being cleaned up, and them trying not to seem “White Trash” is something I can relate to…not because my family personally fits the whole scenario, but I’m from an area where there are families like this, there is that social stigma and some try to seem more “high class” than they may be…my family watching found this humor in the episode very funny because it’s something that hits home a lot. Some may not have liked it, but I was on board from the get-go.
9. Poor Stuart was stuck between Leonard’s parents at the wedding; glad he got to attend the wedding this go around! #stuartfan
8. The banter between Howard and Raj was fun this episode and I’m happy to see them together again for scenes…hopefully the government won’t ship Howard away from Bernie…though Raj doesn’t seem too afraid. Still crushin’, Raj?
7. Speaking of which, Bernadette officiating the wedding was SO much fun! I love her sass and the face she made throughout the ceremony, like, “Yeah, I’m in charge of this ceremony! Wanna fight?” It definitely help ground the awkwardness between Leonard’s parents and Mary Cooper (well, mostly Sheldon talking about Mary and Alfred).
6. The moment Penny’s family walks into their apartment and Penny says, “Let’s go see everyone next door,” really made me realize how Penny and Leonard really do need to…move on. If they are married, you would think they’d be finding a bigger place together or joining into the same apartment? That made me wonder where they’re going to take that this season.
5. Mary telling Amy to have a little more “zing” in her snapbacks to Sheldon…Oooh, I not only love that Mary has taken Amy under her wing, but is ALSO giving her pointers! Poor Sheldon!
4. So, we had two new actors guest starring this episode. To me, Katey Sagal was okay as Penny’s mother. When I heard she was cast, I thought, “Oooh! The badass momma from Sons of Anarchy playing Penny’s mom will be great!” She was fine, but I felt she didn’t have much to do this episode; probably because Beverly and Mary took up most of the “mother-in-law” cattiness, even though Mary’s not technically a Mother-in-Law. On the other hand, the performance that DID surprise me was –
3. When I heard Jack McBrayer was going to play Penny’s brother, I had mixed feelings. On the one hand, I LOVE Jack McBrayer and think he is hilarious. On the other hand, I was afraid he was being typecast based on how he’s the “Charming southern actor” and wouldn’t fit for being a former meth dealer.
I actually thought his performance was hilarious. With his “new teeth” and cleaned up persona, he did a great job on the show and was a delight. I am all for him sticking on the show and realize now how Penny was persuaded by the actor Sheldon hired as his “drug addled” cousin from earlier seasons.
2. Sheldon’s speech about Penny and Leonard was adorable, but even better – Amy thinking she was about to be popped the question was hilarious and thought for a second he was going to! No worries, Amy, all of us Shamy fans know it’s coming at some point….maybe this season?
1. This season is off to a great start; there’s a lot they can work with and I love that the gang is all together and there’s no big riffs between them (can’t say the same for Leonard’s parents). It has me excited for this season!
