The Extensive Naming System
What is it?
The Extensive Naming System is a naming system that branches off of traditional naming. The system is primarily based on world-building in my "(Spark) Rosie AU", where kits are named [prefix]kit at two moons old rather than from birth. This allows kits to be named after not just their pelt color, patterns, and size, but also their eye color, personality, and their natural skills.
Kits have nicknames for the first two moons of their lives, and renaming ceremonies are meant to occur if a cat feels no longer satisfied with their name. Any name part can be used in renaming a cat, and a cat can have different prefixes throughout their life.
What do you do here?
I plan to list and define all the suffixes in the books and then do the same for prefixes. Then, I plan on posting custom suffixes and prefixes that you and I all make. All lists will be compiled onto a google spreadsheet as they are completed.
I also will gladly make names for people's character as long as their appearance, personality, and skillset are provided. A little backstory may help as well (Nothing too long, mind you, just important bits in their life).
With that, I will also happily try to define your characters' names, and you are free to tell me how right or wrong I am. No need to detail anything for me, unless you want me to rate your character's name rather than guess your character.
Post Structures
Each post will include the suffix/prefix, the definition, and "author notes" if deemed necessary. Tags will include what kind of name part it is and where it can be applied to a cat, ie, their skill, fur color, and personality.
What do plan on doing after all this?
I plan on making a random generator on perchance, which will include definitions for the name parts, and I may make a sister generator for making a character with a background of some sort.
Other Notes
I will refrain from using my au's terminology here, so the clans will still be called clans, kittypets are kittypets, and other groups may be mentioned by their actual names if deemed necessary.
As an extra note on the future random generator and my author notes, some names that may be generated might break some of the rules I make in my notes. The main one would be using the "-face" suffix with color prefixes like black-, brown-, red-, and yellow-, which are terms for racist caricatures where people color their skin (particularly their face) to mock other races. If I knew how to prevent these combinations from happening, I would. If I ever learn how to, this section will be removed from this and/or future pinned posts.
