Okay unpopular opinion but I just feel like the tmr fandom kind of erases a lot of Newt’s character traits?? I mean, the fact that he’s a genuinely kind, caring person doesn’t necessarily dismiss his entire personality as “soft little bean uwu must be protected.” Bc…,,,..,?,,, he is actually such a sarcastic character???? And is a strong leader who, 99.9% of the time was angry and stressed and it showed in some of his interactions??? Wym

True! How can we neglect that during TST Newt held off a multitude of those Monstrous-bulb creatures or Grievers during the midst of The Gladers escape within TMR?? Although the second-in-command has his renowned “Smol Bean” moments, he is utterly courageous, independent, and (aforementioned) sarcastic!! He relentlessly notified Thomas (despite him leading the Gladers to freedom) he would NOT, UNDER ANY CIRMUSTANCES, PUT UP WITH HIS BULLSHUCK -That included his Gf, Teresa, too-!!

Newt is an incredible leader and succeeded in wrangling (approximately) 50 boys despite Alby’s absence and Thomas’s shenanigans!! This seventeen-year-old was the authentic “Glue!” It was his inner and/or outer strength, hope, and leadership that advanced The Gladers forward, alongside Thomas’s intelligence and Minho’s rebellious perseverance!!

And as a fandom, we must not forget that!

Oh my god YES I’ve been saying this for so long!!!! Like ???? people in fics write him like a soft boy™ that’s weak and tiny and needs protection. Newt don’t need no protection, dude’s a strong leader, a sarcastic piece of shit, he knows how to put Thomas in his place (and everyone else too). People put so much emphasis on when he jumped off the maze wall and hold onto that to make him seem weak and powerless when in reality he overcame that and became the best version of himself he could be

There is this phrase that says „I don‘t like saying goodbye, I prefer saying ’see you later’ and Thomas wished that was the case with his best friend.

He couldn‘t even say goodbye. No last words. No farewell. He had just closed his eyes and pulled the trigger, and when he got on his feet again, he didn‘t dare look back to his friend‘s body. He never said goodbye.

Thomas would never see Newt again. He desperately tried to hang on to the good times in the Glade, in the Scorch, where he always thought that life was bad. But back then, at least his friend had been with him. He never said goodbye.

When Newt first started losing his sanity, Thomas thought, and mostly hoped, that they would still have time. But they didn‘t. They didn‘t have any time. He never got the chance to say goodbye.

Newt‘s last words would always stay with Thomas, and he would never forget his friend. Newt would always have a special place in Thomas‘s heart, and Thomas wished he‘d got the chance to say goodbye.

Oh my God finally someone said it! Yes! You’re absolutely right! It irked me so much that people do that??? Especially when he was canonically made into a “softer” character in the movies - like Gally overthrowing him in the first movie, etc. - you’re telling me that this guy, who was canonically the chosen leader by everyone, who was one of the only things keeping them in line, would just be like okay cool you wanna do that ? Go ahead. It don’t add up sis, it don’t add up.

Also, I was happy about the bit of sarcasm they let him portray in tst and tdc ( the line with mountain people, and his iconic line shout how he’s bloody inspired ) because it’s a very impossible part of who he is and how much he hates his life and the world. Don’t. Censor. His. Personality.
