“It’s like, it doesn’t honor God to pretend like everything is OK. That’s the beauty of Jesus that so many people miss. The beauty is that he died on the cross for our sins, but also that he existed the way we exist. He understands what it’s like to lose a friend. He’s not unfamiliar with those emotions. He’s not unfamiliar with the difficulty of human life. To me that’s what makes Jesus as God beautiful. He totally understands. He went out of his way to prove to us that he understands our situation. So when he has something to say, it’s not coming from this high and lofty standpoint. It’s coming from this person who understands intricately the perils of human existence.”

late night thoughts: Just because things aren’t good right now doesn’t mean He isn’t still good. You see, we build this false perception that God is supposed to take away the pain and the sorrow. If He loves us so much, why does He let us suffer? But in reality, He told us since the beginning that life isn’t going to be easy. People fail us. Trust is broken and, eventually, we fail ourselves. But despite the anxiety, He is still good. Remember that.
“Tracy Emin’s work has a special place in my heart; she is an artist who is not afraid to explore any subject, or rather sees no reason why the darker side of life should not be portrayed and expressed as widely and freely as any other aspect of life. I’ve personally held this sentiment long before I’d heard of her or any other conceptual artists that hold the same view, it’s something that has caused trouble with every art tutor I’ve had with them insisting I stop trying to shock people. Life is life, the good, the bad, the ugly and the downright depraved. Why should we not show and be exposed to the darker side, it’s just as important as the beauty of a sunrise and infinitely more interesting.”
— Dissertation excerpt
Tracy Emin’s “For You” at the Liverpool Cathedral
The artist writes: “The Church has always been a place, for me, for contemplation. I wanted to make something for Liverpool Cathedral about love and the sharing of love. Love is a feeling which we internalise; a feeling very hard to explain. I thought it would be nice for people to sit in the Cathedral and have a moment to contemplate the feelings of love, it’s something we just don’t have enough time to think about and I hope this work creates this space in time.”
I absolutely loved this work. Liverpool Cathedral is the largest cathedral in the UK, and the words “I Felt You And I Knew You Loved Me” right beneath the towering stained glass windows truly makes a person reflect.
Sento tutto senza barriere, filtri o separazioni. Sento sento sento.
Women are conditioned since we are young that our final stage of fulfillment comes from finding love. We could be 25, successful and self-made, but at the end of the day people won’t see us as someone who made it so far in just 25 years, but how someone lived 25 years without finding a man. To every single woman out there who is working hard and grinding to achieve their goals- your success is valid. You as a woman are valid. And I pray there is only more and more success written for you in everything you pursue.

the secret history subtitles // beauty is terror. whatever we call beautiful, we quiver before it.
“Date yourself. Take yourself out to eat. Don’t share your popcorn at the movies with anyone. Stroll around an art museum alone. Fall in love with canvases. Fall in love with yourself.”
