Peter’s fingers slowed on the screen as he sensed Gwen’s quiet sorrow beside him. Her whisper, barely audible but heavy with pain, made him put his phone down. She seemed so far away, lost in her own thoughts, and he didn’t want her to feel like she was carrying this alone.
“Hey,” he murmured gently, leaning forward to catch her eye. “Why don’t I show you where you can rest? I know it’s not easy to just… be here. But maybe a bit of space and time will help. C’mon.”
He stood up, nodding towards the stairs. As Gwen followed, her steps almost hesitant, Peter led her to the guest room. The room was quiet, a little haven tucked away from the rest of the world, with soft lighting and a neatly made bed. “Bathroom’s just through there,” he said, pointing to a door just off the room. “Take all the time you need. I’ll be just be in my room if you need anything.Be sure to knock first okay?”
He wanted to offer more, some assurance, a way to ease the burden she carried. But he knew that sometimes, just being there could mean more than any words.
When she nodded, he gave her a small, encouraging smile, stepping back and letting her settle in for the night. As he walked back to his room, he felt the weight of her sadness lingering in his chest, wishing he could do more. After settling into his bed, he picked up his phone again, reaching out to Wade, the only one who could bring a bit of brightness back.
“Hey, I just got Gwen set up in the guest room. It’s… tough seeing her like this. Wish you were here.”
he sent, thinking he had already told Wade about the weird Gwen variant situation going on
