The 1951 ‘Alice in Wonderland’ Animated Movie was basically my first ‘favorite’ Movie, the first movie I remember loving enough to watch it over and over again. And rewatching it now is a little funny, because it does raise a lot of positive nostalgic memories but then there’s also the whole sequence with the flowers… Which is initially so whimsical and friendly and beautiful…
But then just as Alice has really started to enjoy herself, it becomes clear that the Flowers were operating under the misconception that she was One of Them, they were only being so friendly because they assumed Alice was also a Flower and now they’re noticing all the ways she’s Not Good as a Flower and start cruelly judging and criticizing her by those standards.
And when Alice tries to explain herself, that just makes everything worse, and now almost all of these Flowers see her as something Ugly and Bad and Wrong and turn on her. All of those flowers who were pleasantly singing and chatting up with her when they assumed she was Like Them immediately turned to bullies and then enemies as soon as they realized that she’s something Different.
And I’m just kinda like “Oh…................. that’s literally my Main Form of Anxiety for my Entire Life. That’s literally All Of It."
And I’m legitimately not sure how much of it is simply because the affect and imprint this movie had on me since such a young age, and how much this Growing-Up-Autistic-Anxiety was already fully-formed in my brain when I was four years old and I just loved ‘Alice in Wonderland’ so much because it articulated in the best way my little preschool ass had seen at the time.
My daily PopeMira prompt is an A/B/O with feral inmate Andrew and doctor Samira.
Are you ready?
Omega!Samira is specialized in rehabilitating feral people. She's the best in her field, they call her from other states. Folsom calls her to treat some of the inmates. Samira does a good job there, but there's one particular inmate they refuse to let her treat, and she's pissed off: in her experience nobody is lost. She fusses so much about it that they eventually relent and she's allowed to treat him.
Alpha!Andrew grew up in an abusive family who forced him to play in illegal fighting. He's been convicted because he accidentally killed someone during a match. Given his situation, they didn’t give him a life sentence, but his behavior is concerning and they are debating if he's fit to be ever released. He's silent and very aggressive, they had to collare him with a shock collar and put him in isolation for everyone's safety. When they have to move him they handucuff and muzzle him, so that's how they present him to her.
Samira is deeply horrified. She demands they free him from all that stuff so she can properly treat him. They comply to everything except the collar.
Andrew is like a scared wild animal, so wary with her, and clearly not pleased to have someone else in his territory. Yet he doesn't pose as aggressive towards her, just annoyed. Samira also notices he keeps himself and his cell very clean and tidy. He even has some plants around, all well cared of. These are all good signs.
The first day is just about letting him know her and reassure him she's not a threat, which means staying there and playing submissive, waiting for him to approach her. Everything seems to go smoothly, until Andrew actually approaches her, and gets shocked from his collar. He reatreats in a corner whining in pain. And Samira almost loses it. She manages to contain her fury only because she knows it would distress Andrew even more. He catches the concern in her scent, though. They share a pained glance before she leaves with a "I'm so sorry Andrew", and goes leashing to the guards.
The next day Andrew is less wary about her presence, but it takes a lot more time for him to dare and approach her again, even if she reassure him he won't be shocked again. When he finally does it, Samira shots a warning look at the camera, knowing the guards are observing - and probably betting on how much it will take from Andrew to maul her to death.
Then she bares her neck and wills herself to calmly wait.
Andrew is very slow, very careful. He circles her, whiffing throroughly, studying her without daring to touch her. When he feels satisfyed, he reatreats again in the farest corner of the cell.
It takes a week for Andrew to stop just staring, and actually interact with her.
The next day Samira just enters his enclosure with a stash of books and some snacks, sits crisscrossed, and read silently by her own. As expected, Andrew grows curious and eventually the next day he takes a book to read as well. Mirror activity: the first step.
After a couple of days like that, Samira brings some games, and starts doing a puzzle, Andrew joins her to help finish it. Shared activity, yay!
Then it's doing origami.
Then it's playing chess.
Then it's crosswords... and that’s how she manages to make him talk. It takes a little trick, though. That is, purposely writing the wrong answer. Andrew huffs and puffs, scent brusting in annoyance.
"That's wrong." he finally blurts out, poiting at the word.
He then gives her the correct answer. As Samira ereases the wrong word and write the new one, she has to bites down a smile. She can't help her scent, though.
"I know you cheated." Andrew grunts, unimpressed, "Your smell gives it away."
"Does it?" Samira smirks at him, amused.
Andrew averts his gaze, cheeks red.
"Go on." arms folded, he nods to the crosswords, "Next one."
By the way I was at a con and Colin Baker said "My doctor is full of sentiment, but not sentimental. He would step over a dead body to help a butterfly with a broken wing." If you even care.
