Trump does not represent the origin of white supremacy

At most, the torches in Charlottesville were held by people in plain clothes instead of robes and hoods because they feel emboldened by a president who feels emboldened enough to be so blatantly white supremacist.

But these people have had these views and have been your coworkers and have been sitting in the pew next to you for years. This country was build on white supremacy and violence against black and brown bodies and that has never changed.

The difference is that you’re paying attention now. And that maybe Nazis are slightly more public now than they have been in the past but as a white person I’m aware that it’s entirely possible I’ve just been ignorant to the extent of blatant and violent white supremacy in previous years.

Trump is repulsive but getting rid of him will not prevent these rallies and it sure as fuck will not prevent systematic oppression.

This is war. War which will require death and war which will require us to create the communities of love and support that we want to see after the revolution.
