You’re talking to the team media rep, joking, “One day I’ll land my dream interview… Ran Takahashi. Men’s Japan Volleyball team. But I’d probably just forget how to speak.”
Unbeknownst to you, George Russell is making coffee three feet away. He freezes mid-pour.
He later texts the driver group chat:
George: Y/N’s dream interview is some volleyball player named Ran Takahashi.
Lando: WHO.
Charles: I know him. He is very good.
Carlos: That man can jump scary high.
Lewis: Okay but why do I feel like we should make this happen?
Lando: YES OPERATION RAN IS A GO.
By the time you finish your coffee, the entire grid has decided this is now their mission.

The group chat immediately turns into chaos:

George: They’re called VNL passes, mate.

You’ve interviewed F1 world champions. You’ve sat next to Toto Wolff in strategy meetings.
None of it prepared you for watching Ran Takahashi in person.
Every time he serves, you grip Lando’s arm. Every time he spikes, you gasp loud enough for the drivers to laugh.
Charles leans over mid-match. “You are more excited than when Max won last season.”
He’s not wrong.
By the third set, the entire F1 crew is into it—Max is analyzing formations like it’s race strategy, Pierre is loudly cheering in French, and George is recording “for social media” (read: blackmail).

After Japan wins, the media handler leads you backstage. The drivers trail behind like proud parents on a school trip.
When Ran finally walks in, you freeze.

You fumble with your recorder. “Okay, um, congratulations on the win. How—how do you… keep your composure when—uh—”
Ran laughs softly. “When the match gets intense?”
You nod again, mentally screaming.

Once you get over the initial brain fog, you slip into your element:

You know something that makes me wonder? How little fics there are of ryujin nippon players like they're all 10/10s. I expected that with all the haikyuu fans I thought ryujin nippon would receive almost the same level of hype because LITERALLY Yuki Ishikawa, Ran Takahashi, and that tall tree I'd be more than delighted to climb(Akihiro Yamauchi), actually HEAR ME OUT ON ALL OF THEM they are quite literally the YUMMIEST athletes I've laid my eyes upon. Like sirs aim those spike towards my ass ne-- OMG WHO SAID THAT!?!?!?
